The fringe left is entertaining but not appropriate and to me dangerous.

I can agree with this

But how much danger is there really with no actual power?

What’s funny is those called the ‘fringe left’ these days would have been moderates in the 60s.
Moderates in the 60’s were calling for Medicare for all, a shutdown of private health insurance, “ free” college tuition, wealth taxes, a shutdown of energy from fossil fuels, and so on?

Moderates called for Medicare and rightwing conservatives called it socialism that would destroy the fabric of the country. Some things never change, huh?
And Medicare was passed easily with huge majorities in the House and Senate.
It was hardly a “ fringe “ issue.

Huge majorities is right. Republicans from Poppy Bush, Ronald Reagan, Barry Goldwater and Gerald Ford all swore Medicare was gonna be the end of western civilization.

House   —— Democrats 289   Republicans 136

Senate. —— Democrats 65         Republicans  35
Still doesn’t jive with your contention that in the 60’s that the moderates were the fringe.

Since that wasn't his contention, it is unsurprising they would not align.

He said today's so-called fringe would have been considered moderates then.

No guns, no guns ready to use at a moment's notice, then there's no hope for you.
Like lambs to the slaughter, you 'will' be shot dead beside a highway in Canada.

Guns are great, and necessary for self defence today.
The bad people lurk in the shadows, waiting to pounce.

An Australian man and his American girlfriend have died in suspicious circumstances in Canada, sparking fears they may have been murdered.

The family of an Australian man and his American partner are searching for answers after the couple were found dead on the side of a Canadian highway in suspicious circumstances.
Lucas Fowler was found dead alongside his girlfriend, US woman Chynna Deese, on a remote stretch of the Alaska Highway, British Columbia, just as they were about to set off on a road trip around the “top half of the globe”.

Ms Deese had reportedly left her home to visit Mr Fowler, who had been working at a ranch in Canada, when tragedy struck.

At least in America a man and woman can carry handguns...gunslinger style, and have a machine gun slung over their shoulder.

Anyone remember where they were 50 years ago when the Eagle landed?

I remember my family was at the Gilgo Beach marina and my brother beat me to the air horn. Normally I would have been pissed but we were so excited w didn’t care who had one hopped the other. every one in the marina was cheering and blaring their horns and ringing their bells in one the best expressions of communal joy I’ve ever experienced.

No fantasies, this couple is dead.
Murdered, ...unarmed and unsuspecting...shot dead.
Old van broke down...simply cannot travel around in old vehicles and break down.
Might be ok on 5th Avenue at rush hour, but not in the wilderness or lonely roads in rural places.
Woman's vehicle breaks down anywhere...doesn't take long for rapists, robbers, and murderers to appear from nowhere.

Why weren't there signs up on that road?
Why weren't people issued with guns on that road for self defence?

Where was "Sgt Preston of the Yukon" and his dog, protecting the people?
Probably doing their best...but not even the cops can save you from the bad people.
Aussie guy was the son of a top cop.
He travelled the world, visited 'every' dangerous city/country in the world...but his luck ran out in "peace, love and harmony, no guns" Canada!

The stretch of road where Mr Fowler and Ms Deese were found on July 15 has been dubbed “Highway of Tears”. Between 18 and 50 women were murdered or went missing along the 724km of road since 1970.

The deaths have gripped British Columbia with fears a serial killer is responsible, initially sparking further concern the couple’s deaths could be linked to the murderer.

In 2015, signs along the highway warn of a serial killer on the loose, cautioning girls not to hitchhike, though the killer theory is only speculation.

Demonstrating, yet again, your cluelessness.

If you have a machine gun slung over your shoulder, of all the things that are possible, using it at a second's notice is not among them.

I know where I was - in a group at summer camp, a few dozen of us and one small B&W tv. That so few of us wanted to watch it would astound me more today, but for this group helping to underscore the problem.

Fifty years ago today?   Newton, Mass.   Amid an odd lack of public excitement and revelry.   I think the actual Small Step was around 9 pm, on the eastern seaboard.   Folks had the tv on (they were bookish types, so our tube was small and b/w and usually off), but i have little memory of the moment.   We lived in New England for three years, then moved back to the plains - it was just long enough to fuck with my teenage head and make me wonder where home really was.

Growing up on Long Island just down the road from Grumman the space program was a big deal and the kids in our neighborhood were all into Estes model rocket kits. We built rockets (my favorite was the Gemini Titan and we had our own “space”program with mission control and recovery operations (bikes and walkie-talkies).

The night of the first moonwalk my sibs and I sat on the floor of my grandma’s room and watched in amazement.
