Quote
"“Call      later today (maybe around 5) to remind him we NEED him to wire $250k tomorrow,” a Republican operative texted Mr. Broidy in early 2017, according to a copy of the text obtained by The New York Times. Five days later, Mr. Khawaja and his wife donated a combined $250,000 to the Republican National Committee..."

Prosecutors said Mr. Khawaja made the donations in the names of himself, his wife and his business, but that the money actually came from Mr. Nader. While arranging the payments, Mr. Nader reported to an official of an unspecified foreign government about his efforts to gain influence, according to an indictment unsealed on Tuesday.

Khawaja, who hosted a fund-raiser in Los Angeles for Mrs. Clinton in 2016, was charged with conspiracy, making illegal contributions through someone else, causing excessive contributions, making false statements, causing false records to be filed, and obstruction of a federal grand jury investigation.

Trump's defenders have yet another argument against impeachment: Holding a vote in December will ruin Christmas.

Nazi dollars helped the Koch family get started in their business empire....

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2019/dec/07/kochland-review-koch-brothers-pollution-congress-republicans

Reviews the new book out on the Koch bros.   Some interesting tidbits on dirty money and the ravaging of the moderate wing of the GOP.  Hadn't been aware that Fred Koch, the dad, was a co-founder of the John Birch Society.

I’ve been bitching about the Kochs and ALEC in this forum for years.

Except they held the vote to impeach Clinton on December 19.

And your point is?

The complaint is not sincere, Larry, just a complaint because they have to bitch about something.

What's that? Politics and distraction?

Australia Burns Again, and Now Its Biggest City Is Choking

In Sydney, fresh air and ocean breezes have long been treated as a daily birthright. Not anymore.

#####

Hogwash.
When the fires are put out/burn themselves out...it'll be back to fresh air and sea breezes again.
Nov is storm season...lightning everywhere...dry thunderstorms, no rain.
Arsonists everywhere...some have been arrested.
This year the winds have been mostly from the west...from the outback...hot, dry, strong...blowing all the smoke from the fires to the coast.
Last few days the wind has been from the NE...clearing the smoke somewhat to the west.

How do you know that there has not been a long term change in the winds?

As many here see it, Australia’s conservative government, in refusing to address the threat of climate change, is favoring the country’s powerful fossil fuel industry over its largest city, as well as the rural areas where fires have already destroyed hundreds of homes.

#####

Then the 'many here see it' should think about it a lot more deeply.

The country is almost the size of mainland America in area...but only has a population of 25 million...not a lot of people paying taxes.
Fossil fuel is all there is at present that can power the nation.
Solar panels on homes, and gas, are making a small difference.

South Australia state tried the renewables now caper...it failed miserably.
The switch to renewables has to be gradual.
The Conservative federal govt gets criticised for spending too much on 'climate change'/'renewables' subsidies, making the cost of electricity unaffordable for many businesses and homes.
The cost of electricity to Australian consumers is said to be 4 times what it is to American consumers.
Most Australian consumers are demanding the Conservative federal govt builds new coal-fired power stations so they can have cheaper electricity.

Some years there are more fires than others.
Some years the Rural Fire Service does Hazard Reduction Burns and smokes out the city.
Some years the city is covered in smoke, some years not so much.

Long term change in the winds? 'The climate is always changing'
Could be...but I'm still keeping my old Corolla.

"The climate is always changing" is a decense against the science of climate change in the same way "people are always dying" is a defense against murder.
