The White House issued a statement that it has secured a promise from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to hold a standalone vote for $2,000 per person relief checks Trump had been pushing for, over the $600 that is in the bill.

The statement also said the Senate will consider legislation to repeal "Section 230" of the Communications Act that gives immunity to social media publishers. It also said the Senate would conduct investigations into voter fraud

The Senate is back in session On January 3rd, but they don't have the power to repeal Section 230 or anything else. Trump has been deceived, again. Sure, they can consider it, but so what?!

And "will conduct investigations into voter fraud," as if they have not done so before and repeatedly not found anything to align with the Trumpian claims. And that's assuming that after the elections on the 5th are settled that Mitch even has that option.

In statement, President Trump said: “I will sign the Omnibus and Covid package with a strong message that makes clear to Congress that wasteful items need to be removed. I will send back to Congress a redlined version, item by item, accompanied by the formal rescission request.”

Not how signing statements work. He can tell them he's making a "formal rescission request" until he is Orange in the face and it will not change that he has signed the bill into law already.

Will it delay a release in the funds? It might, but that's all. Why?

From the US Senate's site:

The cancellation of budget authority previously provided by Congress. The Impoundment Control Act of 1974 specifies that the president may propose to Congress that funds be rescinded. If both Houses have not approved a rescission proposal (by passing legislation) within 45 days of continuous session, any funds being withheld must be made available for obligation.

It won't even by 45 days, because the rescission request will be rescinded in 24 days. And, again, Congress will only be in sessions for as many as 17 of those days, likely fewer.
