There can be no gainsaying of the fact that racism is still alive all over America. Racial injustice is still the Negro’s burden and America’s shame. And we must face the hard fact that many Americans would like to have a nation which is a democracy for white Americans but simultaneously a dictatorship over black Americans. We must face the fact that we still have much to do in the area of race relations.

Not exactly.  Medicine has a moral basis.   But making personal judgments about patients sinfulness is not part of that,  as you must surely be aware.   Doctors don't backburner diabetic patients because they always ate too many cookies when they could have had an apple.  They do triage on the basis of what patients,  in this moment, are most in need,  a practical and humane standard that is centuries old and not controversial.   My daughter kayaks,  and has dad's robust immune system,  so her risk is much lower than a COPD sufferer.   If all other factors were discounted,  the COPD person would go first.  ( The question of moving her up the line was a practical one of the impact on public health and older relatives of pupils.  One could ask the same question regarding supermarket  cashiers,  et al)

Public health measures, like vaccines,  tend to rely on utilitarian ethics rather than individual virtue,  isn't that the case?   IOW,  what will help the most people as soon as possible and save the most lives?   That's more judgment-neutral (judgment used here in the personal sense of judging a particular person).

All i know is that the excessively overweight, smoking, did-it-too-him/herself self-indulgent couch potato goes ahead instead of the person who acts responsibly and acts for others.

If you're okay with that, then that tells us something.

You responded to none of his point.   My reading is he's saying that doctors can't be judgmental about lifestyle, though he may personally disapprove.   If we did triage based on who's least self-indulgent,  we'd empty most of the wards and replace them with sports injuries and mountaineering accidents.

When someone repeatedly misconstrues my posts,  I tend to move on.   That he posted 8 times but ignored your spot-on reply says that he probably will,  too.

Puck Fompeo.

Biden has said that he intends to cut back on arms sales to the Saudis and push for more diplomacy and humanitarian assistance for Yemen. But reversing the Houthi designation cannot be done with the stroke of a pen. Under statute, it requires an act of Congress, or an administration review, after which the secretary of state finds that changed circumstances on the ground of U.S. national security warrant a reversal.

With fever and nausea being common side effects of the vaccine..and 23 people in Norway dying days after having the jab, think I'll be saying "no thank you".

Norway says there are risks that Covid-19 vaccinations may be too risky for the very old and terminally sick, after 23 people died within a short time of receiving their first shot. Of those deaths, 13 have so far been autopsied with the results suggesting that common side effects may have contributed to severe reactions in frail, elderly people, according to the Norwegian Medicines Agency. “For those with the most severe frailty, even relatively mild vaccine side effects can have serious consequences,” the Norwegian Institute of Public Health said. “For those who have a very short remaining life span anyway, the benefit of the vaccine may be marginal or irrelevant.” (Treloar and Erik Taraldsen, 1/15)

Are you among the most frail over 80?

No...but what about the other 10?

They're 80+, too, but haven't been autopsied.

But you know what, Bambu? Do as you want.

There are items I care about for the world and convincing you to take the vaccine is just not among them. This is a fine thing for your anti-reality to fixate on, so long as you don't try to convince anybody else that you are right, anywhere.

I won't...people have to decide for themselves.
Everything was ready for everyone to have the vaccine...well, everyone except the anti-vaxxer movement.
Now, out of the blue comes the Norway thing.

There's was one policeman quoted as saying the protesters had more chemical weapons than the police did at his particular checkpoint (bear spray, mace, pepper spray, etc).  Might be time where you have to show ID and leave your name, number, address to buy bear spray.

It's interesting that chemical weapons are illegal in warfare, but are allowed in crowd/riot control.   I guess when you are not supposed to shoot and kill people than it is deemed okay to use temporary incapacitating chemical weapons.

As a wilderness wanderer,  I can tell you that people buying bear spray for anti-human use is amusing.   Though all the sprays feature capsicum,  bear spray actually has a lower concentration and has other stuff that's only effective on bears -- it's fairly weak on humans.   People just stupidly buy it because they assume "stops bears, must be extra powerful."

Wilderness wanderer?
Aha, like the van life people I watch on YouTube, they're wandering around the nation mountain biking, camping, trying to stay warm, trying to stay on the i80 in Colorado, Kansas etc and not get blown off and over like the trucks on the black ice.
Hiking, boondocking in the wilderness.
Bear spray?  Bears?  Only for the brave hiker.

Watching these cretins,  I feel safer and less worried about the republic.   My concern is for less fortified state capitols.   With the Noem as goobernor here,  I expect the SD capitol will remain unmolested.

Those cretins came within minutes of decapitating the the national government below Trump.

Thousands came to DC to do what they did based on the LIE the election was stolen by Black people.

1/6 was as an effective recruitment tool as ISIS videos.

That operation at the Capitol was wildly successful.

Really?
Imagine what would have happened if they had caught up to Pelosi or Pence ...
Or if they got into one of the congressional chambers while the members were still in session.  Which nearly happened.

Also, many of these folks entered with backpacks which could have been carrying guns, bombs, grenades, etc.

Just because a lot of the folks that entered were idiots and not coordinated and were unsure what to do once they found the Capitol empty doesn't mean it some couldn't have been much much worse if some were better armed and more persistent in tracking down the hiding representatives and staffers.

My impression of the level of violence to get inside and the angry rhetoric employed was things were close to getting real ugly.  Almost surprising they didn't turn on more journalists or kill/harm more police.

One officer recounted how he was tased in the back of the neck repeatedly, and while incapacitated on the ground the mob started stripping his gear.  Then he heard someone say that they should shoot him with his own gun.  To save his life he pleaded that he had 4 kids and a wife.  And then a handful of protesters surrounded him and shielded him from further harm.

This was all much more violent and dangerous than I initially had thought.
Only 2 people dying from violence was pretty fortunate.
Check out that WaPo vid I posted which makes clear where the rioters and elected officials were and how close they came to a clash.

“Look, I didn’t agree with the [Capitol] fight that happened last week, and I voted against overturning the election, but at the same time, the impeachment is a wrongheaded, partisan notion, [and] if Republicans go along with it, it’ll destroy the party,” (Senator Rand) Paul said during the interview.

“A third of the Republicans will leave the party,” Paul continued. “This isn’t about, anymore, the Electoral College, this is about the future of the party, and whether you’re going to ostracize and excommunicate President Trump from the party. Well, guess what? Millions of his fans will leave as well.”

More succinctly, "Because while I condemn insurrectionists, they're important to the party!"

Always putting party before country. That's WHO this asshole is.

I think you give him too much credit.

It's putting self above everything else, and in this case he sees himself getting further by having the party intact - but if he saw it otherwise, he would turn on them in a heartbeat.
