Maybe our supporters have the right idea. Mike Pence deserves it

Keep up the good work, Liz.

Brittney Griner to be the subject of a  show trial in Russia, guilty verdict very likely

Brittney Griners  trial for allegedly taking hashish oil into Russia is scheduled to begin Friday. At that point it will have been 134 days since the WNBA star was taken into custody while trying to enter the country through a Moscow area airport. She faces 10 years in prison if convicted. But before the trial even begins, U.S. experts and officials say Griner will be the subject of a show trial, and a guilty verdict is almost a certainty. The entire exercise, they say, is a negotiation tactic to push the Biden administration into trading for her freedom.  Its a foregone conclusion and the trial is to uphold the state and to confirm the power of the state, says William Pomerantz, the acting director o the Wilson Centers Kennan Institute in Washington, D.C. and an expert on Russian law.  Justice is not the immediate issue.  via T J Quinn  ESPN

Under Trump this does not occur.

Well 8n the sense that Trump was so far up Putins ass that there was no need to pressure him into doing Russian bidding. He already was.doing it.

I too once met a girl in Central Park, but it is not much to remember. What I remember is the time John Wayne killed three men with a carbine as he was falling to the dusty street in Stagecoach, and the time the kitten found Orson Welles in the doorway in The Third Man.

As opposed to Trevor Reed, who was arrested during the Trump administration, but released under Biden:

Or, of course, the Trump DoJ that reduced sanctions on Russia and refused to pursue criminal charges on their interference in the 2016 election.

Bottom line, Trump is an extremely tedious dude to have had in our face for seven years and running. My former New York Times colleague David Brooks wrote it best

Weve got this perverse situation in which the vast analytic powers of the entire world are being spent trying to understand a guy whose thoughts are often just six fireflies beeping randomly in a jar.

Presidential candidates are always declaring that  the most important election of our lifetime is at hand. In fact, this is usually true only for the person running. From here, though, 2024 does indeed resemble a genuinely fateful  time for choosing, to use the old Ronald Reagan phrase. Trump could really win. In private, pretty much every serious Republican I know would agree that this would be a terrifying outcome. But in public, of course, its still a lot of  I will support the nominee. Or, as Graham said flatly,  I hope President Trump runs again. True believer types like Representative Lauren Boebert of Colorado go even further she declared recently that God himself had  anointed Trump to be president. This, admittedly, might make him tough to beat.

Good piece - thanks.

...Former President Donald J. Trump told his top White House aide that he wished he had generals like the ones who had reported to Adolf Hitler, saying they were (totally loyal) to the leader of the Nazi regime, according to a forthcoming book about the 45th president....

Mar-a-Lago not your ordinary Pres.  residence.

Kid is proud of Trump's running a place that was porous for US security purposes.

We've had presidents who used private facilities, even their own places, for vacations before. They each had their challenges for the USSS - but those presidents cooperated with the Secret Service, the FBI, and the US Military in keeping US secrets secure.

For sure, not your ordinary president and because of that not a standard residential facility to protect.

Maybe if Trump had cared about the country.

Mike Lindell's (the MyPillow guy) appeal to SCOTUS rejected.

I presume he will have a soft landing.

The question is:  can he feather his nest with more donations from sympathetic supporters?
