China has limited leverage over NK.  They don't want a rogue nation with nukes on their doorstep.  They also don't want lots of poor refugees if the regime collapses.  Nobody has a good answer to NK.  CHina and SK helped NK set up some economic zones trying to help their economy and foster cooperation.  But these have been hard to run, and the worry is thye just bolster the NK economy/regime. 

NK cares so much about US sanctions that about 10 years ago one of their major earners of hard currency was counterfeiting US $100 bills.

Let's see, put billions in the hands of those who are already extremely wealthy and living very well, or get it to poor and lower class folks who need it and will spend it which is good for the economy.

The Clinton Surplus was squandered by W Bush giving money back to the wealthy.  Result: the economy crashed and many folks lost their homes.

Otherwise deficits can be good, if the money is borrowed to pay for useful stuff such as infrastructure repair (jobs & better transportation), more broadband, education, etc.  If you're investing in the future, borrowing can be good, especially since interest rates are marginal and the USG can borrow at extremely low rates.

The GOP loves gov't subsidies and waste as long as it's going to their constituents -- military contractors, farmers, or even religious groups if they could find a way to swing that (though tax exemption is a nice consolation).

Yes we can.... [Aussie too has borders, African swine flu is now in Indonesia, there is much drama at Aussie airports, can't be letting people just waltz in with undeclared meat in their bags]. There has to be an orderly visa and checking system, policed strictly.

Can't be having people just waltzing over the border/s uninvited because they and their parents feel like it.
Not every child in the world can move into America, ...overpopulation, massive overpopulation.
There has to be an orderly immigration system, or the result is anarchy.
Sometimes the govt has to say "no".
Squalid third world style refugee/illegal immigrant/asylum-seeker tent city in Central Park...the lakes/ponds or whatever used as toilets and bathrooms.
