Remember when China and the US followed our example and abolished capital punishment? No, me neither. But some think those superpowers would willingly destroy their own economies if we first destroyed out own.

I'm better than most in environmental terms.  Don't have a car.  Use a bicycle.  Strict vegetarian.  No progeny.

But it's the Golden Age of Discount Imported Food Stores in Shanghai.  So I've been buying all sorts of fancy Asian snack foods and juice and fancy Thai soap on the cheap.  And what's struck me is the packaging nightmare.  I rarely bought packaged goods before, but now all sorts of stuff is over-packaged, heavily wrapped, individually wrapped, some of the shit is downright hard to open.  It's hard to imagine all the packaging I now contend with multiplied times billions.

No wonder the ocean and our bodies are filled with microplastics.
