James Carville( the democrat who in 1992 gave us the memorable Clinton Campaign slogan:It's the ECONOMY, stupid!) in a recent interview with Vox:

We have candidates on the debate stage talking about open borders and decriminalizing illegal immigration. They’re talking about doing away with nuclear energy and fracking. You’ve got Bernie Sanders talking about letting criminals and terrorists vote from jail cells. It doesn’t matter what you think about any of that, or if there are good arguments—talking about that is not how you win a national election. It’s not how you become a majoritarian party. . . .

Someone please tell James this is a very close primary and a candidate can pivot - or just emphasize other issues - after BECOMING the nominee.

Fundies who believe God doesn't like gays or that Jesus never jacked off.   Lotta sexual hangups among Christians.

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Oh. You must mean Mitt Romney, eh?

Mitt is a fundie, no doubt. He is also an American, a bar that neither Red nor Mitt’s republican senate colleagues can any longer claim to reach.

All the stuff made in CH can be made elsewhere.   We've spent a generation funneling trillions there, which lifted hundreds of millions out of poverty.

Why not do the same for our allies: India,  Indonesia,  Brazil, Central America,  Mexico, Eastern Europe.
Others such as Kenya,  Nigeria, Egypt, Pakistan -- all on the brink of instability --could really use the jobs,  revenue  etc. that industrialization and trade would bring.

The USofA should have a trade policy informed by geopolitics, and not just led by greedy amoral companies.

That would be smart of us. It will take new leadership and serious dismantling of the republican party.

Quote
Opponents claim the plan is too expensive and will ruin tracts of picturesque countryside. The projected cost, estimated at 33 billion pounds in 2011, has soared to as much as 106 billion pounds ($137 billion).

Conservative lawmaker Michael Fabricant, who represents a central England district on the HS2 route, said the rail line would damage or destroy 100 ancient woodlands, causing “immense” environmental damage.

Green Party lawmaker Caroline Lucas said important wildlife sites and nature reserves would be “swept aside by the HS2 leviathan.”

“Our nature and wildlife is being wiped out at a terrifying rate and projects like HS2 add yet more harm,” she said...

"Conservative" means something slightly different in England,  apparently.

If Fabricant et al manage to stop high-speed train in the sceptered isle, Tony V.  will no doubt treat us to another "Fuck the British" editorial.

Was it Lady ... Wakasa? who was the big South Korean film fan over on 3rd Eye? I imagine her as very happy today.

Twas her.   She would travel to the Pusan (now Busan) FF,  that sort of thing.   She should be over the moon.

You're right about the effect of diminished enthusiasm.  People don't have to be raging bigots or strongly anything to skip voting.   Some stay home if there's any blemish on their idea of a candidate... they're the electoral equivalent of a person who takes to the sick bed over a pimple.
