No more sitting at starbucks, just buy and go. Mankind destroyed by a virus. Like those horrible aliens in War of the Worlds. Someone has to speed up the vaccine testing for this dire emergency.

Kid, a bit more about why the steps we are taking (a) seem needful despite the age question you quoted and (b) may be wholly inadequate:

South Korea has been testing everybody - they are currently testing 20,000 a day, vs. our not having gotten up to 10,000 total, yet! Italy has only been testing those who report symptoms.

This virus is exposing two fundamental flaws in our society: children's nutrition being tied to public schools and healthcare being tied to employment.
What does that even mean?

Have you been tested?

For reduced mental capacity, that is.

Because so many families are poor, their children's nutritional needs are handled by giving them meals in their schools, Ward. I am sure you have never encountered that notion.

So, when schools are closing down for other reasons, then the kids' nutritional needs are going to need to be met in some other fashion or they will not be met at all.

Shockingly enough, the same parallel can be drawn with health insurance and employment, if less completely with the still somewhat useful, but somewhat crippled ACA.

Unemployed people mostly have no health insurance and cannot afford the COVID-19 testing. The new law will help with that, once the GOP finally deigns to pass it! But the problems still persist.

Concerns arising of testing accuracy.  Patients testing negative and then having no further concern.

Exactly why the administration was hesitant to use the WHO tests.  Always best to develop your own - so any valleys can be dealt with - with first hand knowledge.

Wouldn't you need to be wary of your Starbucks server?  Are they following usual cleanliness protocol - minimally - and NEW guidelines given recently?

"President Trump downplaying the severity of the virus......."

Nope.  Simply not so, CNN

In fact on your own network Governor Andrew Cuomo defended the President's actions - as a leader not spreading fear.  CNN morning show of course still not budging on its show of political bias. They cannot put it away - even in time of national crisis.

If you think this is the case, why are you watching CNN?

Just shut the fuck up.

Within weeks of the current outbreak in Wuhan, China, four Korean companies had manufactured tests from a World Health Organization recipe and, as a result, the country quickly had a system that could assess 10,000 people a day.

Bullshit.

Nothing precluded our developing our own while using the WHO tests in the intervening time, instead of allowing the thing to spread without any checks on it.

Yes, it was about control but not the way you mean. "Oh noes! The UN is trying to take over the US!"

Having the tests earlier would have meant our numbers went up more and faster. Trump stated that he liked the numbers lower. (Not the number of people with the virus lower, just the official count. So image conscious and sooooo short-sighted.)

What the fuck do you think his claim that the US has "tremendous control" over the coronavirus suggests, if not that he's downplaying the severity of the problem?!

Not to mention his excuse for his ongoing hand-shaking.

(Or as somebody mentioned last night, "Great - they have the candidates 6 feet apart. Why are the moderators sitting together?!")

First off, the US seemingly didn't start developing a test until after cases were in the US.  That is, they failed to use the window they had whole the virus was still contained in China.

Then the initial CDC test was botched and had to be reworked, thus slowing down testing.

Also, apparently the CDC test kits didn't include the needed reagents, so while most large hospitals had stock of those, smaller clinics had to scramble to get necessary stocks, further slowing down testing.

That is, the US-created test was poorly handled and resulted in extensive testing delays.
