And China had requested more help from the US labs -- help with critical operational issues at the Wuhan level 4 lab.   Another reminder that putting borders between scientists may not be good for science.   


The US offered to help China on the ground.

They refused it.

Why did they?  You seem to speak for China on this board.

Oops.   Someone didn't read the story.   He's talking about the cables sent two years ago.

   The Chinese researchers at WIV were receiving assistance from the Galveston National Laboratory at the University of Texas Medical Branch and other U.S. organizations, but the Chinese requested additional help. The cables argued that the United States should give the Wuhan lab further support, mainly because its research on bat coronaviruses was important but also dangerous...

No extra assistance to the labs was provided by the U.S. government in response to these cables.

As Oil pointed out,  the story is about diplomatic cables two years ago.   China asked for more help then.  The cables were ignored.   Read the damned story before you start spewing ignorant crap.

Before the crisis, Tourism created over 160,000 jobs here in Orange County, thanks to Disneyland, all because of Walt Disney's imagination and his American Dream. After this crisis is over, we need to bring back an America where guys like Walt Disney can succeed, and in turn guys like Walt can create jobs for the masses. If guys like Walt Disney are oppressed, or are unable to achieve their dreams, then it prevents them from creating jobs for the masses, and everyone suffers. When guys like Walt Disney succeed then everyone benefits. And also, you cannot have all of the public service jobs such as school teachers and police officers and fire fighters, etc, etc, etc, without the free enterprise private sector paying taxes, we cannot all work for the tax-payers, someone has to pay the taxes. We need for people to be able to succeed in the private sector, and we need for them to be able to succeed big time.

Having Disneyland is also about quality of life, people love taking their families to Disneyland, and those become some of their fondest memories.

In Lancaster they built a prison and called it "job creation." Then they need to arrest everyone to fill up their prisons. It is all bullshit. They could have built a movie studio, or a Chevy Corvette factory, or something, they could figure out something to build, some of the most creative people in the world live in the Antelope Valley, and they build all kinds of cool top secret stuff that no one knows about. And Antelope Valley College is great, and the Lancaster Performing Arts Center on the Blvd is great, but building the prison was lame. They could have built a great new college, or a movie studio, or a million other things, but instead they built a prison so they could lock up their neighbors. It is all bullshit.

So, we can have Disneyland, and family memories, or we can have a society with prisons everywhere. If guys like Walt Disney are oppressed, and a prison mentality ensues, then that is what you get. Or if you let the British or the Japanese or other country rule the USA, they do not care about Americans, that is why we have homeless people all over and prisons, while the jobs go to other nations. I would rather have colleges and Disneyland, instead of prisons. And I would rather see our people enjoy life, instead of being miserable and making other people miserable.

We knew there was a probem.

“The idea that it was just a totally natural occurrence is circumstantial. The evidence it leaked from the lab is circumstantial. Right now, the ledger on the side of it leaking from the lab is packed with bullet points and there’s almost nothing on the other side,” the official said.

As my colleague David Ignatius noted, the Chinese government’s original story — that the virus emerged from a seafood market in Wuhan — is shaky. Research by Chinese experts published in the Lancet in January showed the first known patient, identified on Dec. 1, had no connection to the market, nor did more than one-third of the cases in the first large cluster. Also, the market didn’t sell bats....

Pangolins were also suggested as a pathway, and I didn't  hear any more on that,  so don't know if that theory was dropped, too.

The pangolin theory worked until they realized a mistake in the papers - they were comparing a small bit of the Pangolin DNA, which gave them a 99% match.

When they looked at the whole, it dropped down below 92% and was therefore no longer a candidate.

They shifted over to bats where there was a better match, but it looked as if the bats could not be a direct vector for it. It seemed to need an intermediate host between them and us. That was end of February, I want to say. I have not dived into the biology of how it got to us since then, being more preoccupied with how it transferred among us (with a brief side trip into how the tiger got it from us!).

The swabs and tubes for the samples to be tested? Oops... those we are short of.

And trained techs to run those tests are also in short supply.

We only have checks and balances when the Senate does its job, which it has abrogated from Day One of the Trump administration, overwhelmingly (though not absolutely). They could stop this practice of Acting This and Acting That, for example, but they refuse.
