One of the most infamously lockdown-skeptical governors in America is dealing with a spiraling pandemic and political problem.

Will Florida’s COVID Gamble Drag Down DeSantis and the GOP?

Gov. should know better.

Tulsa reporter who attended the rally has tested positive.

Too soon to be sure he got it from being there for 6 hours, but also too soon to decide he did not.[\b]

That's the beauty of it, ain't it?

Republicans seemingly will bury Trump

https://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/elections/election_2020/52_plan_to_vote_against_trump_next_year_for_now

21% say they will vote against him, leading to the 52-42 Biden lead

But WILL THEY when it comes down to the actual vote?

For a fellah who questions the predictive power of polls,  you sure post a lot of them.

and almost all from Rasmussen.

kiid's an inveterate bullshitter.  If Trump was up in the polls, we'd be hearing polls, polls, polls.

It's like a lot of the GOP.  When W was in office they'd talk about the stock market and how that showed the economy was a bubble good.   Then the stock market has a sustained 8 year run under Obama, and not a peep about the importance of the stock market.  But once Trump is in, the stock market again is the economy.  Strange how that works.

Oh that's right, it's a post-factual world and we're only left with propaganda and spin (that is, BS).

“We are seeing data now that there’s a big number of undiagnosed positives walking around who haven’t been tested,” Ibarra said. “That tells a different story about this virus; that it’s a lot less deadly than being reported.”

What it means is that the chance of transmission is rather high.  So the disease can spread fairly easily around and get to those at high risk.  Which Florida has a lot of.

It likely doesn't change the death rate among the old and sick.
Back in Winter it was already known the virus was mostly ravaging and killing those who were infirm either due to age or other underlying health issues.

It also means that much more testing needs to be done.  And masks should be mandatory.

The Dems need to make the case for the need for a Dem Senate.  They need to go for a full tidal wave landslide.

Talk about how the Dem House stopped the GOP from trying again to kill Obamacare and take away health insurance for 25M Americans.  Remind folks that only a courageous vote by McCain saved Obamacare, and that since then the GOP has lined up behind Donald Trump on all issues.  That there are no McCain's or men of principle left in the far right Trump GOP.

That the Trump Admin is still trying to use the courts to kill Obamacare and harm 25M Americans ... even during an unprecedented health emergency.  That a DEM Senate will stock the courts to counter the right wing extremists Trump and McConnell have larded them with.  The kind of judges likely to overrule Wade v Roe or kill Obamacare.

Talk about how with a DEM Congress, all Americans will have health insurance like every other wealthy western country.   Talk about returning the country to normal , realigning with allies, supporting workers and not the wealthy, making a fairer society for all Americans, and list other issues on environment, education, etc.

But also talk about making government work by hiring competent people and following science and expert advice.  Explain that the long Trump Nightmare is almost over.

Reference how the GOP Senate thwarted much of the Obama promise and wasted 6 years of potential progress.  That America can't afford a non-loyal opposition again.  That it's time for the US to rise up and restore its economy and place in the world.
That we need a Unified Gov't to get things done.

Florida was seeing 13-20% positive among those being tested across 5 or 6 counties, according to a report I watched in the wee hours.

That's a lot.

And... it's way to early to know what the long term consequences are for even the seemingly mild forms - we know we have seen some unexpected organ damage, but in how many?!

Somebody paid a bunch of folks in Patterson New Jersey to go to jail on behalf of President Trump.

Okay, that's pretty unlikely to be what happened, but... it sure sounds as if this was badly enough handled to make it seem that way!

https://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2020/06/26/1_in_5_ballots_rejected_as_fraud_is_charged_in_nj_mail-in_election_143551.html

Four men charged in election fraud efforts. Multiple elections on hold. BUNDLES of ballots found in mailboxes. Admission of collecting both filled and unfilled ballots from individual mail boxes. People swearing they did not vote.

The question asked at the end of the article is a good one, though: When will President Trump learn about this and start tweeting?!

Note that this is a right leaning author, but despite that tilt, the story is an important, if unfortunate, one.

The Obama Top 50 accomplishment list confirms my impression of the O Era.

4 of the Top 10 occurred in the first 2 years and involved restoring the economy.  But most of those were halfway measures because the Dems couldn't line up their side.

Obamacare was the Heritage/Romneycare GOP plan that kept private insurance as the middleman ... and only covered half of the uninsured.

The stimulus bill was too small and too tilted towards useless tax cuts.  Just look at the size of the economic rescue(s) under Trump/Covid.

Wall Street Reform didn't go far enough, have enough teeth, and no one was prosecuted for all the misfeasance.  Business as usual pretty quickly.

The Auto Industry bailout was an unequivocal success, and helped Obama win Ohio and the presidency.  Romney offered to let the auto companies go bankrupt.

Foreign Policy:

Killing bin Laden another complete bold success.
Hell, the Dems should tout themselves as the Auto industry and dead bin Laden party ... instead of letting those achievements just fade away.

Iran nuke deal was a solid reasonable compromise.  Better than the misery Trump is placing on the Iranians for no reason.

Paris Accords.  Good stuff.  Voluntary targets set by your own gov't.  US likely the only country where there is doubt about climate change.  Besides the US which has threatened to pull out, I think only Syria and Nicaragua didn't sign on.  Hurrah for us.

The two LGBT issues in the Top 10, the Obama Admin didn't lead on.  I was amazed how quickly US opinion went from maybe civil unions were okay, to f*** that gay marriage is what's right.  The O Admin basically sat that issue out.

After that, it's mostly small bore stuff.  The kind of thing O was able to squeak through with exec orders.  Mostly positive stuff, Trump has been busy undoing.  But just underscores how hampered and ineffective the last 6 years of Obamadom were.

Though I'd take #50 Scandal-free and move that into the Top 10.  Good government is important.  Trump Admin is nothing if not endless scandals.  And as we've seen blindingly in 2020, good government saves lives, while bad government kills

Important to note who he was dealing with in Congress during most of his tenure---puts those accomplishments in proper context. Also, he was the first scandal free Prez since Ike.

3 died, 3 are very sick, and 1 is blind. This mostly transpired in May and I have no idea why we are hearing about it now.

Was this false advertising by the church the reason they were chosen to host the Phoenix youth rally with President Trump?

Are the Trump folks so anti-science that they cannot be bothered to read fine print or, if they did, to disregard it?!

https://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2020/06/26/1_in_5_ballots_rejected_as_fraud_is_charged_in_nj_mail-in_election_143551.html

From that article:
Quote
New Jersey’s municipal elections aren’t broadly comparable to nationwide elections for a variety of reasons ...

Notably the multi-levels of corruption that infest NJ.

It would have been interesting if they explained WHY NJ wasn't comparable.   During one of those NJ Gov scandals -- I think the one where the gay guv appointed his Israeli lover to some sensitive position -- the newspapers would preface almost every story by saying something along the lines of:  New Jersey, the most corrupt state in the US except for Louisiana, ...

Florida stays in the running and ILL had an impressive streak of governors going to jail, but NJ has such entrenched and institutional corruption.  the kind of place where the feds run a city or a union because the corruption was too thick or the mob too entrenched.  Lotta money sloshes around NJ.

Interestingly, for such a Blue state, it's only the GOP governors who are comparatively clean.  Because the Dem legislature would investigate them at the drop of a hat, while letting their own skate free, until they really mess up big time.  And the constant Dem Guv scandals allow GOP Govs to win.  NJ likely just too corrupt for single party gov't.
