Look at the GOP.
W enacts huge tax cuts for the wealthy after Clinton bequeathed him a surplus.  Then uses the resulting deficit to try to cut welfare programs.
Trump enacts huge tax cuts for corporations then uses the deficit to stop raises for federal workers, all the while the GOP schemes to undo Obamacare and then go after Medicare and SS.

In contrast, Obama extended the irresponsible Bush tax cuts for an extra two years.  Then he also got suckered and wasted 2 years worrying about the debt/deficit.

You either set the agenda or steamrolled by your opponents.

Where's the narrative about the Clinton Boom?  The Clinton Surplus?  Obama saving the economy from ruin?  Obamacare as a huge plus for working class and poor?  W Bush being a disastrous president -- wars and debt and economic depression?

The GOP ran on Carter being awful and Reaganomics for over a generation.  The Dems can't even manage to keep a theme going for 4 years . . .

The relative aversion to bullshit turns out to be a handicap in electoral politics.

The GOP over arching theme is fear the OTHER; blacks, latinix, and gays so buy guns to protect yourself from them.

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/08/30/opinion/race-politics-whiteness.html?action=click&module=Trending&pgtype=Article&region=Footer&contentCollection=Trending

The religion of Whiteness has become a suicide cult.

Skewers Teddy Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, and FDR, among others.

The Christian West not majority/run by White people?

Then there will be Asia, Africa, Middle East, China, India, Muslim world … etc.

Nowhere I, a man of "White European appearance", would like to live.

Christian West run by ayatollahs?
Oh dear...it will be no more.
Sad really.
Luckily, I won't be around then.

It's as if you didn't read the article!

Or, if you did, you could not parse its meaning, so decided to twist the topic to your own pet issue.

I deserve to be treated well.
Everybody "deserves" to be treated well, Bambu, but not on their merits - on their breathing and being alive.

You do not want your treatment to be dependent upon evaluation of your goodness.

What you won't be is treated the way your vaunted white majority has treated every minority it has ever encountered.

But that's the fear, of course - that whites will be treated the way they have treated minorities.

Happy Labor Day America !

(Bloomberg) -- When Americans feel like they’ve got more money, they like to treat themselves. That means there could be plenty of steaks on the grill this year for Labor Day.

A buzzing economy and low U.S. unemployment is a boon for beef, typically considered a premium meat. Gains for the cattle herd means retail prices have fallen. Combine that with grocer discounts for the holiday, and steaks and burgers could be the cheapest they’ve been in years, attracting demand.

And with demand for beef up it also means an oversupply of chicken and pork and lower prices for both.

Let’s Make America GRILL Again!

The enemy is out to destroy all that is good. Evil is against us. All of the good paying union jobs disappeared, and now everyone is on opiates, and people are over-dosing left and right. People need to get off of the opiates, and people need to be able to earn honest money by working a respectable job.

When I was a young adult everyone was on meth, and now it is opiates.

People need to get off of the drugs, and people need to have self respect.

We need to do things such as opening a movie studio in Anaheim, and we need to manufacture automobiles in Van Nuys, and we need to get our high speed trains built, which will make for a nicer experience for the tourists, and we need to do other things to help our economy. Also, we need to make our immigrants legal, so that they are not afraid to call the police in the case of an emergency, and so that they can legally work and join unions, etc. There are many things that we can do.

And we need to get the growers in Afghanistan to grow cotton instead of opium poppies. And we need to make opiates harder to get.

We need to stop busting people for marijuana, marijuana is now legal here, and they need to stop the flow of opiates. And you can smoke marijuana until you are blue in the face and you will not over-dose. Marijuana is safe and helpful, we need to make marijuana cheap and plentiful, like wine, wine is great.

Anyhow, we need to create more jobs, and we need to get people off of the opiates.

Salute,

Tony V.

Trump administration has dedicated itself to reducing opiate imports and usage in the US.

I hope if he loses in 2020 the new President keeps up the work.

Marijuana is a menace.
Marijuana is bad news.
Marijuana does what all the experts who warn against its use say it does.

Opiates are bad news too, unless of course one has a terminal illness and/or is cursed with intolerable pain.

The rest of your post I totally agree with.

Trump is now not coming to Australia in Nov...going to the 100th anniversary of the WW1 Armistice in France instead.
Fair enough.

VP Pence is visiting in his place.
Good news.

That fixed the 'baby blimp' lot right up.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-09-03/steve-bannon-says-china-is-at-economic-war-with-west/10174604

Steve Bannon predicts working-class revolt in Australia as China rises

Former chief strategist to Donald Trump, Steve Bannon has criticised Australia's approach to an aggressive China, labelling it weak and saving his most blunt assessment for former prime minister Malcolm Turnbull.

Key points:
•Mr Bannon plans on taking his economic nationalist message to Australia before the next election
•He says Mr Trump confronting China was key to his successful appeal to voters
•He rejects the idea his ideology is racist, saying US workers are 'finally standing up for themselves'

"People are going to be held accountable in the next 10 or 20 years about 'what did you know about China?', 'how did you accommodate it?'" he said.

"They absolutely have to be confronted now. Turnbull has been way too much of an appeaser."

In an exclusive interview with Four Corners, Mr Bannon identified Australia as the "canary in the mineshaft" — a warning of the consequences of not standing up to China.

#####

Wonder how he thinks Australia should be standing up to China...given that China is Australia's largest trading partner.
Maybe he could convince Washington to give/sell at cost price...nukes to Australia.

America is going 'protectionist', Trump governs for America first, America's total right.
Aussie has to sell stuff to somebody … China is buying.

If he is as dedicated to reducing opiate usage as he is to reducing the federal deficit, we are all in a ton of trouble.

If the administration is as committed to reducing opiate usage as they are to education of American children, trouble is far too weak a term for it.
