What's sad is that Pigday never tries making a calm argument for reparations as perpetuating victimhood - I saw some guy make such an argument on the PBS Newshour a couple days ago.  I wasn't persuaded by said argument, but at least could say I was listening to a sane and reasonably calm person make their points.   

As a young African-American, he felt that the harm of slavery didn't affect him directly and so didn't want to feel like he was being paid off for whatever happened to great-great grandparents.   His position was that, this far downstream, the money would be unearned.   My principal quibble is that, if a person honestly felt that way, they could refuse it or pass it along to a charity or struggling school district etc.  And those who actually are struggling in a cycle of poverty can accept it and make good use of it.   

I guess I don't believe that everyone who gets government assistance sits around dwelling on their victimhood.   Most are just trying to pay rent and grocery bills and take care of their kids and find a future where they can afford a house and college and time to catch their breath.   Figures show those who succeed leave the poverty cycle, as do their descendants.

"Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country."

But we refuse to believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt. We refuse to believe that there are insufficient funds in the great vaults of opportunity of this nation. And so, we've come to cash this check, a check that will give us upon demand the riches of freedom and the security of justice.

We have also come to this hallowed spot to remind America of the fierce urgency of Now. This is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism. Now is the time to make real the promises of democracy. Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice. Now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood. Now is the time to make justice a reality for all of God's children.

Anaheim is on the list as one of the best cities to live in. It is all because of Walt Disney. Over 160,000 jobs are created in Orange County by tourism alone.

Now Anaheim needs to expand opportunities by creating an entertainment industry here, we need a movie studio and movie equipment rentals, etc.

Anaheim has a music industry, and No Doubt started here, and the Vandals, and others. Skateboard music is popular here. At the local club, The Juke Joint, some of the bands that have played are Punk As A Door Nail, Disguster, and The Tequila Worms. And we also have the NAMM show every year at the Anaheim Convention Center, which is all about music and the town fills up with Rock stars.

Anaheim is great. And Anaheim can be better. There is always room for improvement.

Sure, there are the issues of gentrification, high rents, parking, homelessness, etc, but Los Angeles is dealing with the same issues. I think that Anaheim is more family oriented than Los Angeles, and Anaheim is doing a good job so far as dealing with the issues.

We have new shelters for the homeless, and expanded outreach teams, and we have groups which help the people from the homeless shelters to find employment to escape from homelessness, etc, and the minimum wage at Disneyland has been raised to $15.00 per hour.

The American Dream is alive and well in Anaheim, and as many areas have fallen because of the bad economy as over 500,000 jobs in California have been lost to China alone, Anaheim has survived because of tourism, all thanks to Walt Disney. Walt Disney's American Dream helped many people, and touched many lives.

I complained about white folks moving into my “up and coming” neighborhood which has been relatively stable for seventy years (two of my neighbors are 99 and 98 respectively and my wife grew up here ) because developers are trying to get Building code variances in order to add another floor to existing stock which are two story semi detached houses.

I’ve been through this before in Columbia Heights where parking sucked so bad I use to budget $90 a month for parking tickets.
May not sound like a big deal but adding that many extra rooms in one location is akin to establishing a motel in the middle of block. Parking will suck here too. Air BnB yo.

What’s really cool is I’ve watched several kids grow from middle schoolers to college and now a new crew of little kids are running around. Young families mixing in with us geezers. We don’t need an Air BnB packed with drunken frat boys barfing in the streets at all hours. That’s what happened over in Kingman Park.

Now we have to establish Capitol View as a Historic Neighborhood which is actually easier Done than Said. It’s just paperwork and petitions and our white neighbors are on board because they are invested in their neighborhood.

Been thru this before...white folks moved in....parking sucked....we don't need...
