In NJ, as kiid well knows, everyone got a mail-in ballot, but if you went to vote in person -- which was discouraged, but allowed -- you filled out a provisional ballot, and they checked to make sure your mail-in ballot wasn't received and counted.

In practice, I'm pretty sure that meant counting all the mail-in ballots and after those were done, taking the provisional ballots and checking the vote register.  It's difficult to vote twice and have both counted.  Illegal as well.  And one extra vote is hardly worth the risk.

Yet despite a virus that has infected 10 million Americans and scared most sane people into modifying their behavior to stay alive, voter turnout (66%) was at levels not seen in over 100 years.

People on both sides, voted as their life depended on it.

They found the mail-box.

kid-What is it about expanding democracy and expanding voter participation that scares you?

I think there's always been a divide between the two major parties on personal responsibility.  Yes,  in an ideal society,  everyone takes the time to plan how to get their vote in and have all their Ts crossed.   And Dems have been more oriented towards marginally motivated voters,  and voters with crazy hours or physical issues.  I think honest people in both parties should  come together on this and push both responsibility AND ease of access.   Like Ben Sasse and Bernie Sanders form a subcommittee, lol.

I think there's a fair amount of bullshit propaganda about parties and personal responsibility.

Is a stay at home suburban mom more responsibile than a urban single mom who has to work? its possible June Cleaver might find it hard to vote if she had to work 8A-5PM, get home, put on a nice dress and pearls, make Ward his drink, put something together for dinner, and check on Wally and the Beaver's homework.

I think given the success and ease we seemed to have had with mail-in votes, under trying conditions, it might be hard to rescind it.

Why would you want to?

Unless you wanted to suppress the vote.

The thing about paying attention to THE hot topic of the day is that there is always new information coming out, whether from the pharmaceutical companies, our governments, our hospitals, or other countries.

And often, the new information from our federal government or state governments is damning. Like this:

https://www.beckershospitalreview.com/hospital-management-administration/white-house-covid-19-task-force-has-not-communicated-with-governors-in-weeks.html

The WH COVID-19 Task Force has not communicated with the governors in weeks.

Kid wants us to ignore this, wants this to not be discussed.

But it's critical that this crap happened and know that he would have been all over it under a Democratic Party member's administration. (So would I. But with the GOP, he wants hands off the topic.)

This is important.

Starting Tuesday, the country of almost 9 million inhabitants will impose a limited curfew, banning people from leaving their homes except to go to work, get essential supplies, to exercise or to help people who need assistance. The partial lockdown is set to last until Dec. 6 .

Do you think the US could/should do something similar?
Yes. Many places did do in the US with success.

What supplies are essential?
What constitutes helping somebody?
What is the enforcement if this type order is broken?

This post is a trolling attempt.

Kiid’s ignorance is just further proof of trump’s failure. Trump could not instill any value in Kiid’s useless and miserable life.

Joe will make more of a man out of Kiid. He may even come around to owning up and paying his taxes which would make him a better man than his dear leader.

Trump's abdication of responsibility in this crisis has been known for some time. He just didn't care. He did not see how covid could be turned from a national crisis to a personal victory. So he checked out instead.

Whether other public health officials have been put under a gag order to downplay the current virus surge publicly, or worse to make it a bigger crisis for an incoming Biden admin to deal with, by not cooperating and coordinating efforts, is only speculation.

But is it beyond anyone's imagination that the demented orange clown who found blame everywhere but his own inept handiling of this disease, will be mocking and blaming Biden in a couple of months as thousands of Americans die every week due to Trump's utter and complete failure to act like a competent leader. Trump will try and find peace by escaping the grim reality he created.

What is in their brains that they do not understand "Covid"?

Both parties do it, pal.

Dems had boatloads of cash available - spent it on shit candidates - and one big one that seems to have squeaked by.

Now Fauci defends the administration, saying much of what I have been all along about the makeup of, the uniqueness of the US and how we have dealt with the virus

Nice sum up by this great American.

Tapper left with no time - and no clue.

And you accuse me of being focused on one issue.

It's not that you believe it - it's that you, like Trump, throw out accusations hoping one of them will stick.

You are a fucking lying troll, Kid.

But you love to engage with him on his lying and trolling.   He's got you wrapped around his finger.

I was talking today with some family about potential positives arising from the coronavirus annus horriblis.

- More employers letting their employees work at home.

- More mail-in and early voting

- An ability to develop vaccines quicker, and hopefully less resistance to vaccination (we shall see).

- an improvement in online teaching/learning.  With perhaps kids getting better at utilizing some forms of technology.

- Trump being voted out

- fewer school shootings

- I was hoping there would be a realization that masks are beneficial to combat the regular Winter flu.  And that folks who are sick with flu should, sty home, mask up if they go out in public and should definitely not go to work sick.

Maybe others can add more ...
