Is the party truly better off in terms of fund raising and voter turnout if Trump disappears?

Meanwhile those GOP Senators who practice tasseomancy likely have seen yesterday’s poll showing 74 per cent of GOP voters wanrt Trump to remain active in the party.

"remain active" not synonymous with being POTUS again.   Put that in your tasse,  and drink it.

Depends if it's disappear like Jimmy Hoffa or like someone just keeping a low profile.

If the latter,  it would allow the party to hear some slightly saner voices without them being drowned out by the inane and inflammatory chatterbox.

The first option is attractive,  but leads to martyrdom.

Was hoping it would be over today.   Exercises in futility not that fun to watch.   And saying it's a messaging system for the Democratic Party is not persuasive.   No one who disagrees with the messaging is going to be persuaded by anything.  The only witness that would help ascertain Trump's intent would be some west winger who was there as he watched the riot on tv.

I disagree.

The general public's view of Trump and of the impeachment and trial has already shifted significantly. The vote from the Louisiana senator was unexpected when it came.

Even if, as you expect, the GOP manages to hang on and not convict, there is a lot of information flowing that is not futile in the slightest.

Having this stuff like Trump's elegy for Pence and his refusal to even try to call of the invaders are important and might not have come out nearly so publicly without this trial.

Having the witnesses testify to what happened may have as great import.

And I hope the GOP calls witnesses! I think they have no idea how much damage they can do to their own cause.

I’ve always like the very public stroke being what finishes him.

Lovely Lindsey is feeling the finger from the Fulton county DA. Apparently soliciting election fraud is some sort of crime with serious penalties attached.

Who will serve out the rest of his term?

Well, Trump lawyer van der Veen kept complaining that the House didn't do any investigation so there was no record and testimony.
So the Senate can fix that with a few key witnesses . . .

But since we have conclusive evidence, via Mike Pence's team, that van der Veen lies, it really doesn't matter a ton what he says, even when it aligns with our interests.

Cruz saying Republicans likely call Pelosi - and grill her on preparation of security force (or lack therof) on Jan 6.

Ted thinks 55 +/- 2 will vote to convict.

He's book smart, to be sure.

But, in this regard, it is pretty well established that "Ted thinks..." is an oxymoron.

If he disappeared, I think so.

If he lives in opposition, then no.

Trump's still wanted by about 3/4ths of the GOP, I've read (don't remember the source, my apologies), but the number who claim to be of the GOP continues to shrink. If the GOP wants them back, they are going to have to find a way without Trump, while not having him go 3rd party on them or waging war on their candidates.

This goes right over Red’s head with a big Woosh.

If it didn’t, red would be telling us that fracking is as bad for your community as opening up a trump casino.

Of course not. Trump Team has no witnesses in their favor. They bluffed to get a vote, lost the vote and now House gets witness statement entered into evidence.

Spanked again.

These mokes cant even do a closing without shenanigans.

Truly embarrassing.  For the Dems.  But also for the nation - as the world watches.
