News Item, sadly familiar

A parolee with a long criminal history has been arrested in the killing of Jacqueline Avant, a local philanthropist and wife of legendary music executive Clarence Avant, in the couple's Beverly Hills, California, home during a burglary, authorities said Thursday.

Filmmaker Tyler Perry wrote, I have no idea what kind of sub-human could shoot an 81-year-old woman, and in her own home. But you can rest assured that every available resource will be used to find whoever is responsible for this awful nightmare. This is tremendously sad.
Actress Viola Davis tweeted "So sorry for the Avant family. My heart goes out to you!!! OMG!!!! Where are we??!!! WHAT are we?!!"
Music producer Quincy Jones wrote, She was the purest of souls in every sense, & was the Rock of Gibraltar for Clarence, their children, her friends, & community. We are all, every single one of us, better people because Jacquie was in our lives.
Former President Bill Clinton tweeted that his dear friend of 30 years inspired admiration, respect & affection in everyone who knew her.
And Earvin "Magic" Johnson said that he and his wife Cookie were devastated. She was senselessly murdered last night in a home invasion, he tweeted. This is the saddest day in our lives.

What crime do you charge her with?

I find this sort of cleverness unhelpful.

What would the goal of helpful cleverness be?

To change minds?

I've never seen anyone in here ever have their mind changed regarding any issue.

Well, I used to think you were just an asshole, now I think you are a racist asshole. That is something.

The voices in your head won't stop, again, I see.

Take the meds. It's good for you.

Ciao, Joey.

Stop screaming for help and go get some you miserable motherfucker.

You used to just be a petty asshole. Now you are a pathetic whiny ersatz Holden Canfield.

I see you've still never had an original thought, chimp.

Get out the photo albumin and think of the good old days. When you were still employable.

Ahhh...but you fucked that up, too, didn't you?

Should I now post the story of the cop who shot the old dude in the scooter/wheelchair nine times in the back because he had a knife.

You guys do not get it. You rage about horrible things done by individuals while Pooh-poohing agents of the State murdering the citizens they are sworn to serve and protect.

By the way... Durst.

Rich, white murderer.

Where is your outrage over that bastard?

Hope for Atlanta

Surge the police force by 250 officers during my first year in office while training every APD employee in racial sensitivity and de escalation techniques.

Arrest gang leaders that are preying on our children and resolve pandemic related court backlogs to get violent criminals off our streets.

Force with GBI, FBI, and ATF to address gun trafficking and a task force to hire and deploy specialists to deal with non violent issues like mental health and homelessness.

Empower APD to engage in community policing and to support them with new technologies to reduce response times, like smart streetlights, shot spotters and software connecting APD and Fulton Sheriffs.

Congratulations, Andre Dickens

I do recall members who doggedly kept drawing conclusions in spite of the facts, because of Faux News opinionators and YouTube pseudoexperts and talk radio spittle machines.

I suspect this is an era where minds will change only when bad policy and bad science lead to hideous catastrophe.   It takes a lot to shake the faith of personality cults.  As in, the sword of Damocles has to stick you in the head before you wil look up.

But have seen a few members here get a bit more skeptical of some sources.  Maybe there is hope.

Since you are apparently beating off on my Linked In page well big fucking deal. Enjoy.

It's pretty much just a "hey, if you don't echo my world view there is something wrong with you"  climate.

This is why I am almost universally hated, because my world view has evolved far beyond the rest of you lesser mortals.

Carry on.

That you haven't seen it is on you.

Disdain =/= hatred.

And the reason you are viewed with disdain has less to do with your worldview and more the way you try to interject other posters' real lives into your attacks. I grant that your bigotry ("evolved" though you may think it) does not win you any friends, but since you purport not to care (while nonetheless complaining about it), I suppose that doesn't matter, either.

I sure hope she wins and is well compensated, but I am not sure there is enough money in the world for that kind of anguish and fear.
