Merck announced on Monday that it was abandoning a pair of Covid-19 vaccines in clinical trials.

The news came as a disappointment at a time when the United States and other countries are struggling to accelerate their sluggish vaccination campaigns and new coronavirus variants threaten to bring surges over the next few months.

The two projects are the second and third vaccines to be abandoned in clinical trials. The University of Queensland in Australia abandoned its own effort in December.

Forty-two states have a positive balance of payments with the Federal government
for 2019, each receiving more Federal spending than taxpayers remitted in Federal
taxes and other Federal revenues.2
 New York is one of the eight states that had a
negative balance of payments in 2019. While its negative per capita balance of
payments improved by $173 since 2018, this was a significantly smaller
improvement than the $386 positive increase in the national average
over that same time period. Figure 2 presents the 50-state balance of
payments in Federal fiscal year 2019 (see Tables 3 and 4 for state-bystate details).



Page 13-14 of that document, shows the tables. Table 3 shows how the RED STATES are getting way more back than they deserve and how they're being floated by the money earned by the taxpayers in the blue states.

In other words, the lying partisan cocksuckers who live in Red's failing state of OHIO and Rand Paul and Mitch McConnell's Handout Receiving Kentucky and their ilk are living directly off the hardworking Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey, California and New York earners.

Table 4 shows who is getting our federal money and spending it. As you can see, we in the blue have been seriously ripped off.

The Moocher Red State of Ohio embarrasses itself further; if that's possible.

A GOP Ohio lawmaker who asked a racist question last year about whether “the colored population” was contracting Covid-19 at higher rates because of poor hygiene has been tapped to lead the state Senate’s health panel.

State Sen. Stephen Huffman was appointed by Senate President Matt Huffman, his cousin, this month to the position on the committee that reviews legislation about health care and human services despite a racist exchange with a Black health expert in June.

“I understand African Americans have a higher incidence of chronic conditions and that makes them more susceptible to death from Covid. But why does it not make them more susceptible just to get Covid?” Huffman had asked during the testimony.

“Could it just be that African Americans or the colored population do not wash their hands as well as other groups? Or wear a mask? Or do not socially distance themselves? Could that be the explanation for why the higher incidence?”

  President Biden will reimpose a ban on many non-U.S. citizens attempting to enter the country. The move is an attempt to limit the spread of COVID-19 and contain new variants of the disease that have cropped up in several countries around the globe, according to media reports Sunday.

The ban, expected to start Monday, would prohibit travelers from the United Kingdom, Ireland and 26 countries in Europe that allow travel across open borders, called the Schengen Area, according to Reuters. It will also block entry to travelers from Brazil and South Africa, where researchers discovered new variants of the virus.

Former President Donald Trump imposed similar restrictions on travelers from Brazil and Europe but ordered that those bans be lifted two days before his term ended.

Biden's order rescinds that decision, marking the new administration's approach to coronavirus policies moving forward. It also follows early signs that Biden planned to turn back Trump's attempts to open U.S. borders to foreign travelers amid the still-raging pandemic. 

These new variants we don't want to mess around with.   Look to be intensely contagious.

Gee, Biden promised in the campaign if elected President his restrictions and mandates were necessary to change the trajectory of the pandemic in the coming months.

In his first speech as president-elect he said his administration's work "begins with getting COVID under control."

On Friday, however, he indicated that the trajectory of the pandemic can't be changed in the coming months, no matter what Americans do.
