A Michigan GOP gubernatorial candidate is arrested for disorderly conduct ( a misdemeanor) at the Capitol on January Sixth.  Front page news for the New York Times while the attempted murder of a Supreme Court Justice is buried on page 20 and ignored on the Times web presence.

Over at another legacy media mainstay, the Washington Post, the retractions keep a coming. Most notable a mea culpable for printing Amanda Heard s defaming opEd on Johnny Depp that was ghost written by the ACLU, a once respected civil rights organization now an embarrassment. Other post retractions or corrections dealt with ignoring crimes of Hunter Biden, intentional distortion of the Russian hoax, and laughable lies about anything relating to Ron DeSantis.

Woodward and Bernstein would be turning over in their graves.

If they were dead.

You have a bigger lying problem than I knew.

The threat to Kavanaugh was covered when it was news.

Yesterday's NYT:

Ward rambles as the death cult body count keeps ticking up.
Well, Red does serve 9ne purpose:  By mindlessly regurgitating right wing media he  let's us know what the bull shit issue of the day is over there without us having to read it. I mean, I saw the meaningless phrase "legacy media" on a news feed this morning and wondered how long before Red vomited it up here as if it were a thing. Turns out, less than a day.

Nope.  The Post was not the subject of Depp's complaint.  And Op-ed pieces are guest opinions, and clearly labeled as not those of the paper.

You should try reading before (as Hairy puts it) vomiting up talking points (I think Hairy may have the wrong end of the GI tract there...).

In fact, Post media critic Erik Wemple does critique Heard's allegedly ghosted piece, which he should, but also notes:

A British judge in 2020 tossed Depps libel action against the Sun newspaper, which had called him a wife beater based on Heards allegations...that judges 129-page ruling, which survived an appeal from Depp and features a microscopic distillation of the evidence, found that (quote)the great majority of alleged assaults of Ms. Heard by Mr. Depp have been proved to the civil standard.(end quote)

Wemple goes on to explain why The Post was not named as a defendant in the case, and the nature of Op Ed columns.  Here is the article...

It's past time to repeal and replace the 2nd Amendment. Owning a gun should be like driving a car; a privilege, not a right.

Just ban the AR 15.  Enthusiasts can blame their fellow citizens.  Target shooters can learn to switch to handgun targetting.

Amber Heard is guilty of defamation by words attributed to her in the Post Oped, even though it was ghost written by the ACLU.
The Washington Post was a willing transmitter of the thoughts of Heard and the ACLU that were proven defamatory, hence its appending the oped with subsequent developments.
The Post was not sued by Depp, but the paper was a willing supporter of the #metoo movement and a message the ACLU was bent on sending under the Heard name
Pretty shoddy ethics at the Post which, as I posted earlier, is now becoming habitual.

Papers do not support or endorse guest opinions.  Wemple s article clearly states that, and quotes the OpEd editor on that.  Try reading.  Try learning what OpEd actually means.

The Post was not a defendant.  Doesn't matter how many denials you make, or how much obfuscation.

I've read the Heard/ACLU piece.  Depp is nowhere mentioned.  And really, she should have openly stated he was a fucking lousy wife beater.  Because he was.  Her OpEd was entirely too much tap-dancing around that reality.

And you still cannot square the US verdict with the UK one, where a stronger legal defense was made.  Heard was abused and beaten, and all Depp's money couldn't buy him a rejection of that reality in the UK.  Good thing his hands aren't really scissors, eh?

And try learning the legal meaning of "subject of a complaint."

Heard was the subject, not The Post.

Ward is resiloing himself to now exclude the Post from his media bubble as the Post will be running several months steady developments on the unraveling of a huge disgusting nexus of republican crime.

Kid has a good suggestion about one of the things we need to do about guns.
