The U.S. economy shrank in the second quarter, raising fears that the country could be close to a recession

The inflation is horrible, prices are rising for everything. Then, to make it worse they are raising interest rates, they hope to reduce the inflation by raising the interest.

After I quit smoking cigarettes, and after I gave up my car, I have been able to do okay, I have been able to get through the month, but now with inflation I am going to be living on pasta at the end of the month for the last few days, I am going to make a big pot of spaghetti and live on it for a few days to make it through the month. This inflation is horrible.

And I do not understand raising the interest rates, that just seems like a bad idea, in order to save Turkey during their inflation crisis I suggested that they raise the tariffs on imports at their entry points, and use the money from the tariffs to train their people for the jobs of the future, and that they build new factories, etc, and expand exports to the Arabs to strengthen their economy, and Turkey can produce and make movies and television shows in Turkey for the Arabs, etc.

In the USA, we can do the same thing, we can raise tariffs on imports and invest the money into training American workers for the jobs of the future, and we can strengthen our economy by expanding exports, etc.

( Of note, we should have been producing concerts, etc, in Russia like we did immediately following the Russians getting their freedom, to have a better relationship with Russia. We can make the world a better place by producing good entertainment for the people around the world, including in Russia, after this current mess with Ukraine. )

Also of note, is that the USA can put the unemployed people to work building our high speed trains for Amtrak, as we expand in other ways, and our tourists will love our high speed trains, etc. We can also put people to work building housing for our homeless people.

The people on Social Security also need a raise to keep up with inflation.

Cigarettes are $10 per pack, and Gasoline is $6 dollars per gallon, I am happy that I quit smoking and that I gave up my car, I would never make it if I smoked and drove.

Of note too, we need to look at steps that Reagan took to end the inflation and to improve the world economy when he was President.

Salute,

Tony V.

Raising tariffs hurts the citizens of the country that raised them.

Pretty sure we covered that with you during the Trump administration.

We are lucky here in Anaheim that our store shelves are fully stocked, we have lots of food on store shelves, the prices have gone up, but at least we have food on our shelves. In some nations around the world their shelves are empty.

And I save money by shopping at a Mexican Market, Americans can bring Mexican Markets to their neighborhoods so that they can save money on groceries. I go to the Northgate Gonzalez Market, and they have great prices.

Link...

http://northgatemarket.com/home

We can help the USA by expanding trade with Mexico, and we can open Mexican Markets around the country, including in Kentucky.

I have been buying Mexican marinated and spiced chicken for 99 cents per pound, it is fantastic, and I love chicken, I can live on chicken. And the Mexican Market has fresh baked bread, etc. The USA can benefit from opening Mexican Markets around the USA, and we can benefit from expanding trade with Mexico. ( And as we expand trade with Mexico then the Mexicans need to have good labor unions so that the Mexican workers benefit from trade, and the Mexican truck drivers need to be able to join the Teamsters Union, etc. )

Salute,

Tony V.

Raising tariffs hurts the citizens of the country that raised them.

Pretty sure we covered that with you during the Trump administration.

Tariffs help the people if the money goes towards training the workers for the jobs of the future, etc. It is all about how the money from the tariffs is spent.

And the USA operated on tariffs up until WW I.

Tariffs also help local producers by making their goods more competitive.

I agreed with Trump on the tariffs with China.

I would rather have tariffs on imports, instead of high taxes on American manufacturers, etc, and thus make American manufacturers more competitive. And especially if we use the money from the tariffs to educate and train our work force.

Salute,

Tony V.

I agreed with Trump on the tariffs with China.

I know.

You were wrong then, too.

Since he cant read, this will not bother him at all,

http://m.dailykos.com/stories/2022/7/27/2112878/-Republicans-confront-massive-drop-off-in-online-fundraising

Even if it did, he would not admit it.

And the PAC money is still a problem.

It is less of a problem if those PACs are found to have funded seditious conspiracy with terrorism enhancements last cycle. Then they would effectively have no money at all, or by another accounting every last penny they have earned.

Unless those grand juries are already under way, it would be too late for 2022 almost certainly. The best one could hope for is a restraining order and it would get quashed faster than one could say Ginni Thomas!

That is where the terrorist enhancement comes in. It lets the government take the money, not tell anyone they did, and then stonewall any attempt to get it back. If the feds act now and it turns out to be in error it should still take 5-7 years to sort out and get the funds returned.

"If the feds act now..."

Not holding my breath.

And the GOP response when back in power would be over the top and backstopped by SCOTUS.

When GOP gets back in power it will be a much different party.

Wait....what???

Washington DC Mayor Muriel Bowser is asking the National Guard to mobilize in an effort to deal with the migrants that are being bused to the city from southern states.

The mayor, who has championed accepting migrants entering the country illegally as a human rights issue, requested the DC National Guard be activated indefinitely to assist with what she called a  humanitarian crisis.

Bowser is asking that the DC Armory be used as a processing center and DC National Guard resources be used to help field migrants as they arrive by bus.

What's your confusion?

She isn't asking the NG to repel the migrants or to return them to the states busing them to DC. She's seeking extra bodies to help DC manage them and get temporary quarters set up.

I do wonder if this was done to DC or done with DC.

Hahaha...

It has been stated here that Ms.Bowser cannot ask for National Guard.

Shut up, Hans.

Of course she can. But will they come when she does call for them?

The word is "asked".

Exactly.  So Bowser could simply have asked on 1-6.  Instead she specifically went the other way.  As did Ms Pelosi and those in her charge

So, so sad.  They got cops killed.

Damn!

You are dumber than Sgt. Shultz!

We have a few good Democrats here in California...

We have Rick Caruso who is a billionaire who is running for Mayor of Los Angeles.

We have Lou Correa who is in the House of Representatives for Orange County.

We have Sabrina Cervantes who works for the local California State Government on the Assembly for the Norco area ( The San Bernardino area ).

And here in Anaheim we have Councilman Dr Jose F. Moreno who attended Harvard.

We have some good Democrats in California.

Salute,

Tony V.

No, you are mistaken.

She cannot order the NG. She can ask for them.

Quote
Mayor Muriel Bowser does not have the same authority over the D.C. National Guard that governors have over their states. She can only request guard troops from the Secretary of the Army. That request then gets sent up the chain of command to the Secretary of Defense for approval.

Even then, Bowser's jurisdiction is limited. Because of the District's finicky federal status of not being a state, she can only request guard troops to land that belongs to the city. That excludes federal territory, like the Capitol and its environs. The Secretary of Defense needs to approve the deployment of National Guard troops from any jurisdiction at federal land like the Capitol complex.

I hope this helps your befuddlement.
