Obama is always circumspect and rational. When his endorsement will carry the most weight he will give it. Right now to jump on the Harris bandwagon would be seen by certain Moderate Democrats   as Obama unfairly putting a thumb on the scale.

Now that he does not have to front a re-election campaign, President Biden can focus on important national issues that are center to his core duties such as destroying right wing dark money from the sources down through all of the nefarious conduits, rounding up all those conducting foreign policy as private citizens in violation of the Logan Act and squashing unregistered agents of foreign adversaries especially in the media. Now that he has already accomplished enough to rank as having the most successful term as president in modern America history, he can do these things to ensure a good start to a bright future for his successor. Long may she serve and guide us.

Newsom (points for visibility, but maybe an all-Cali ticket a bit much for middle America)
Buttigieg (for maximum Firsts per ticket)
Mattis (an honorable man in any universe)
Cheney (Unity tickets don't often win, but LIzzie could swing some Lincoln Project folk and other defectors)
Booker (this guy is fucking serious about affordable housing and has terrific energy)
Beshear (so I can keep making a terrible pun, as witnessed here earlier)

A Harris-Newsom ticket would cost the Democrats the electoral vote of California. Democrats cannot afford that

No sitting Governors. No legislator helps her enough. She could use some sort of executive position org management credential on the ticket as well as a foreign policy history that runs deep. More important she could use a CIS white man with a history of having conducted violence who believes in and can explain the benefits of nondiscrimination and inclusion as internal practices for the most serious organization. Someone who can read the riot act and get quickly to brass tacks. Someone who knows her opponent and his people as well as where a few bodies are buried might come in handy.
