I have been looking at photos of people here in the United States during the Great Depression, and we have come so far as a nation. And now that we are rich we need to educate our people, etc, we need to give a free college education to every American who wants one. We earned it, we spent hundreds of years working and building up this nation, our Grandparents experienced the Great Depression, and then they had to fight World War II, etc, we earned the right for a free education for all Americans who want one.
My Grandparents worked hard and rose from being children of the Great Depression to being successful homeowners and business owners, and then my Grandfather started sending everyone in the family to college. He sent my Mother's Cousin Jerry to college to become a Pharmacist and now he owns Cole's Village Pharmacy in Fontana, California, he has had a good life. My Grandfather was killed when I was a baby, so my Grandfather was not alive to send me to college or he would have sent all of my family to college. Then my Father was killed when I was 9 years old. So, I did the best I could, I put myself through community college, and then I went to Acting School, I did the best I could. But, if my Grandfather would have lived then he would have sent me to college, and I support all Americans having the opportunity to attend college.
America is rich now, we are not poor like during the Great Depression, we have worked hard for over 200 years and we have built a successful nation, and the least we can do is to educate our people. And in Kentucky, etc, those coal mining jobs are not coming back, the children of the coal miners need to become doctors, and scientists, and teachers, etc.
I support educating all Americans, we earned it, all of our families had to work together to build America and to defend America, the least we can do is to educate our people.
Being ignorant should be a choice, it should not be forced on people due to poverty, or because the bread-winners died, etc. If you want to be ignorant, then that should be your choice, but for the people who want to study and become productive in better ways then they need to have the opportunity.
( I also support having good public libraries, Abraham Lincoln educated himself with books, we need to make sure our people can read and write and they need access to libraries, etc. )
Salute,
