Some say...
And there is a clear example of part of the problem.
You hear "some say" and you are off to the races. There are no charges that would land Assange with a life sentence, let along the death penalty.
Not what we're hearing.
All we're hearing is 'death penalty'....and some sealed indictment or something.
If the death penalty weren't on the table my govt wouldn't be talking about it.
https://www.sbs.com.au/news/govt-says-opposes-death-penalty-assangeA bid to extradite Julian Assange from the UK to the US is between those two countries but Australia opposes the death penalty, the government says.
The Australian government says it's committed to the principle of not exposing its citizens to the death penalty as the US moves in on Julian Assange.
Australian consular officials will visit the WikiLeaks founder in a London jail on Friday after he was arrested at the Ecuadorian embassy and promptly convicted of skipping bail.
Supporters fear Assange could face the death penalty if the US succeeds in an extradition bid, but Foreign Minister Marise Payne says Australia remains "completely opposed" to capital punishment.#####
It would make absolutely no difference to the US what Australia opposes or doesn't oppose.
It didn't matter to Indonesia and it wouldn't matter to America.
Without an absolute guarantee in writing from the President of the USA and Congress that Assange would not be killed in a US death chamber...Britain should not allow him to be extradited to America.
If Britain does extradite him and he gets put to death there'll be drama for Britain.
It'll lose Australia, for sure and certain...there'll be no stopping a republic then.
