Lets get one thing straight, Nicole Wallace - and members here she leads by the nose -

Trump has never said not to wear a mask

Trump has never said not to social distance

Dr Fauci?  Now yeah - he is on tape early on saying there is no reason to wear a mask

Like this president, Fauci was dealing with ever changing info.

And like the president, he is a patriot.

Trump is no patriot.

He’s an imbecile with inordinate power.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/lady-antebellum-name-change-lawsuit-band-sues-singer-anita-white-over-lady-a-name/

They thought it would be best for their image to drop the word "Antebellum" from their name and be known as Lady A
You know, because black people have a voice now and that Antebellum nod to the pre- civil war south just isn't cool no more man....
Except now they're suing a black woman who has performed as Lady A since 2010.

Just an example of fake concern for black people.   Keep the old name.  Don't try to glorify yourselves while appropriating black property.

Maybe they could be Fucking A.

Or Lady A-Hole.

Here is an interesting counter-point to the Harpers letter.  Some of the signatories are expressing dismay about signing the letter.

Some good points there,  and I'm not happy about Rowling signing on so she can blow smoke over her own missteps in the realm of Ignorance Tweeting.   This paragraph....

Quote
Perhaps more than anything else, it has struck many people as disingenuous to advocate for open discourse by complaining that one's public tweets on a public platform are being publicly disagreed with...

...is mostly right on,  except for skipping past the more severe cases of massive dogpiles,  where people aren't respectfully disagreed with,  but shunned,  vilified, and threatened in a manner that seems more Trumpian, more about driving them into the wasteland than giving real and useful criticism.   I think that's the phenomenon that brought people like Pinker and Chomsky with their pens.

Also,  the article had a sort of omniscient sheen to it that was reflected in its title --

Here's What You Need to Know About That Harper's Letter....

Not "here's what I think is important to know... "  The author has already determined what I need to know.   That phrasing is an intellectually smothering one IMO.   It is exactly what bright folks like Chomsky dislike,  and it's way too common in a lot of electronic media.

“Here’s what you need to know...” standard clickbait headline.

Trump campaign communications director Tim Murtaugh told CNN, "There were literally no health precautions to speak of as thousands looted, rioted, and protested in the streets and the media reported that it did not lead to a rise in coronavirus cases. Meanwhile, the President's rally was 18 days ago, all attendees had their temperature checked, everyone was provided a mask, and there was plenty of hand sanitizer available for all. It's obvious that the media's concern about large gatherings begins and ends with Trump rallies

heh

CNN headlines...

https://www.cnn.com/2020/07/08/us/tulsa-covid-trump-rally-contact-tracers-trnd/index.html

"Everyone was provided with a mask," as they sat crammed together with the campaign having removed the signs on seats to cause spacing out, and they overwhelmingly sat there without masks and were screaming!

I don't know who is the bigger asshole --> Murtaugh for uttering that crap or you for quoting it like gospel.

And the reason the media said the protests didn't cause the spikes is (a) as previously noted the protesters mostly wore masks and (b) THE RESEARCH.

Oh, yeah, that whole science thing, again. You really hate it, don't you, Kid?! Facts. Damned stubborn things.

It isn’t about science it is about fear.

The GOP is going with their tried and true campaign strategy of scaring white people into voting against their best economic interests.

This year’s version is variation on the theme of angry hordes of black people rampaging through society as depicted in seminal cultural touchstones like Griffiths Birth of a Nation.

You’ll see the word “Mob” bandied about and every mention of protest will be prefaced with “Looting” “rioting” and then protesting.

Problem for them is a lot of the hordes are white.

I'd need access to the site code to install a mod which would allow it and I am pretty sure our fearless owner won't let me do it.

You could try downloading the video and then attaching it, but I doubt that would do it. (Otherwise, I would have done it when I posted that link.)

Or you could just go to YouTube and grab it

In any case, the Tulsa rally was incredibly irresponsible.  And could have been 3x worse if they filled the joint.  Lucky they picked a small third tier city.   We'll see how ti goes, but it sure looks like that failure, and the transmissions that ensued, will put on hold more Trump rallies for at least a month.  And this will largely be a virtual campaign which suits Biden well.

Have they cancelled the New Hampshire rally?

You obviously dont know about thje ten million dollars Lady A asked for.

The band was forthcoming and reasonable when they found out about Lady A.

I am no fan of theirs but this will all be worked out without needing a courtroom.

Lady A should be applauded for her long successful career but has let the "I want mine" creep into her process.  Not that 10 mil for entertainers is what it used to be.

I don't know who is the bigger asshole --> Murtaugh for uttering that crap or you for quoting it like gospel.

I assume masks were handed out to limit legal liability, which they were clearly concerned with.  From the few photos I saw, roughly 1% wore masks.  Trump supporters weren't expected to wear masks.  They didn't, except for a few.  And people were jammed together.

So despite making a show of masks, they held a 6000 person indoor rally for a few hours without masks and without spacing.  Intended for more people..  So the minimal efforts they made -- screening out a few with actual fever and providing hand sanitizer  -- weren't going to stop transmissions.  Or would have a very marginal impact.  Masks and spacing were needed and ignored.

Btw, the Trump rally was probably the largest human gathering in the world over the past 3 or 4 months.  That's what they said when 20K were anticipated.  Not sure about 6K but sports and concerts and other large gatherings are essentially globally banned.

Really, I'd have Biden do one debate, and then say Trump sickens me I don't want to be around him any more and cancel the rest.  Or say I'm afraid Trump will sicken me, as folks around him keep turning up positive.  But after one debate, I wouldn't give Trump more opportunities.  When you're in the driver's seat you decide the direction.

It wasn’t lucky, it was the Trump campaign sticking its thumb in the eye of black people.

The original date was the day Emancipation was officially declared throughout the nation.

The venue was the site of a pogrom in 1921.
