yo!

Kanye is running for President.
Kim will be First Lady.
Cool.
Better than having Meghan as President ( she has "higher ambitions" apparently) and Harry as First Gentleman.

Is he to be held to mistakes made by governors?  When Trump was elected the talk was that he would be a dictator, a tyrant adding rules across the nation.

Now that he allows governors to do states work...

He is responsible for the mistakes made by governors who followed his spoken recommendations over the CDC opening recommendations.

He is responsible for threatening governors who resisted his "recommendations."

He is responsible, even now, for threatening to "put pressure" on governors to open their schools prematurely.

This is without regard to his copious other failures wrt the coronavirus, like refusing to have federal coordination of PPE.

Lets get one thing straight, Nicole Wallace - and members here she leads by the nose -

Trump has never said not to wear a mask

Trump has never said not to social distance

Dr Fauci?  Now yeah - he is on tape early on saying there is no reason to wear a mask

Like this president, Fauci was dealing with ever changing info.

And like the president, he is a patriot.

I think they just didn't care one way or the other.
Its not hard to understand if, again, you look at every issue from the standpoint of how it effects your reelection chances.

I can buy that they were too incompetent to do a serious containment of the virus.  But too incompetent to even try?
Maybe they just didn't understand the consequences of letting a virus spread throughout the country (despite the example of Wuhan/Hubei, Italy and Iran?).
But that isn't terribly plausible either.

I'm just not getting the many levels of Fail that the Trumpeters inflicted.

If they don't really care about older poorer people dying en masse, they would have to care about the fallout from those deaths.  And the fear that would spread.  Plus the medical system overload, which effects a lot of folks.

I can understand the reopening push as a last minute Hail Mary as election season gets closer.  but I can't figure out the original lack of strategy and effort to contain the disease.

Leaving the virus to the states should be an impeachable offense.  Presidential malpractice.  Obviously it worked terribly, and one reason we have a federal gov't is to pool resources (money, expertise, manpower, authority) in times of crisis -- war, disaster, pandemic, etc.

5 SCOTUS decisions are scheduled for tomorrow - or at least expected.

Really big ones?

1) Access to Trump's financial records:
a) Will SCOTUS follow the rule of law wrt Congressional access or declare the law unconstitutional or find some other way to weasel out of a substantial decision?
b) It seems almost certain that the State of NY wins this. But does that keep the records buried, anyway? For how long?

Even bigger, long term...
2) Who Owns Tulsa?

https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2018/11/murphy-case-supreme-court-rules-muscogee-land/576238/

More recently:
https://www.scotusblog.com/2020/05/educational-seminar-debrief-of-mcgirt-v-oklahoma/ - 30 minute educational seminar on the case, following oral arguments

http://www.scotusblog.com/?p=293776 - Argument analysis: For the second time in two terms, justices consider reservation status of eastern Oklahoma

This is good stuff on a huge case.

Hire the most beautiful young women to work at your bookstores.

It would work, and we could have a great awakening, and a great enlightenment, and a renaissance if people would start reading, and reading used to be considered a luxury, and the train ride is always better with a good book and snacks.

OMG.

So many problems with this I don't know where to start other than OMG.

So, I won't.

Time for beauty queens to make a comeback, things were more normal in those days.
The train ride was always better with a good book, snacks, and a  beauty queen.
Beauty queens were so feminine,  now you have to search long and hard to find one.

Let's attempt to clarify:

President Trump, until recently, NEVER SAID PEOPLE SHOULD WEAR A MASK.

And PRESIDENT TRUMP HAS WORN NO MASK.

And PRESIDENT TRUMP HAS DECLARED HE DOES NOT WANT SOCIAL DISTANCING AT HIS RALLIES.

And REPEATEDLY, TRUMP DOWNPLAYED THE RISKS and CONTAGION of COVID-19.

Any more bullshit you want to toss our way?

Fauci flat out lied about masks.  He knew they were beneficial, but worried there weren't enough, so he lied.  And Trump was his boss and allowed that.

When Trump read the belated CDC mask recommendation in a bored monotone he perked up and repeated that it was only VOLUNTARY and immediately went off on a  digression on why he wouldn't mask up.  (because he has to meet with foreign leaders who actually don't come to the US when it is infected).

So no, Trump didn't say don't wear a mask, but he made it extremely clear he thought it was nonsense and wouldn't do it.  Later he opined that many wear masks just to display anti-Trump sentiments, which 1) implies mask wearing isn't necessary and 2) inspired his followers to show Trump support by not wearing masks (as Trump intended).  Trump never lets himself be seen with a mask.  The WH is reportedly a mask-free zone.

I remember when I first saw Xi JinPing wearing a mask on TV in late January.
The effect was dramatic.  It was a potent symbol.  I thought: Damn, everybody needs to wear a mask.  Trump continually failed that test.

And largely due to Trump's stance, GOP leaders resisted calls for masks until July 1.
Only when the election is getting close and Trump became politically toxic.

Otherwise, the mistake a lot of (GOP) Governors made was following the Trump game plan, including delegating responsibility to counties, not issuing mask guidelines, downplaying the severity, allowing churches to remain infection centers, reopening too soon, etc.  Florida the best example of all of that.  With the Guv following Trump step by wrong step.

Much was done on the federal level.  States were allowed to decide state issues, such as orders to stay home, to shut businesses, to social distance

Making not social distancing a federal crime - with consequences - would have been seen as dictatorial, especially early on.  Just an example.

Business and economic end of this COVID era is where Trump has shone brightest - and where he gets very little credit.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/07/08/us/tulsa-covid-trump-rally-contact-tracers-trnd/index.html

Tulsa COVID-19 cases are spiking, 2+ weeks after the Trump rally.

And no, for the most part, the Floyd-prompted rallies have not had the same effect because overwhelmingly they were wearing masks!

He didn't need to make it a federal crime, you denialist! He needed to RECOMMEND that they make masks mandatory.

Sure, his business and econ during the pandemic have been better than the medical or preventative end, but... "shine" is an overstatement by any measure except the stock market.
