If republicans are serious about dodging impeachment as a way forward in healing our nation, they can start by offering up the heads of Mr. Hawley and Mr. Cruz and all their fellow members who voted in support of the objections to the EC vote as a peace offering. That might almost be enough to bring Democrats to the table.

It would be a small price to pay for such a noble goal, a good first step in rebuilding the republican party from that low low place it currently occupies.

Most of the BLM protests had regular ordinary police departments.

After some were violent, forces started to go with heavier defense gear and weaponry.I am sure you are talking about the DC events alone - and that shows my point - that on Jan 6 they were seriously undermanned - - that the mayor fouled up.

Address that - or show your foolhardiness.

I addressed the events of Jan 6th multiple times, including what the Mayor requested to start with, Kid.

Foolhardiness? Hahahahaha! You, Luee, Bambu, and Ward have so tight a control on that trait that I couldn't get any if I tried.

Kid, the NG sent the requested people to DC, w/o weapons or riot gear, as previously indicated.

1) It took them THREE HOURS to change gears.
2) It took TWO HOURS for approval to come to the governor of Maryland.
3) HOW THE FUCK did they not have a back-up unit ready to go, even if they ignored all the intel that was publicly available about the event?!

Oddly enough, nothing in the timeline explains any of those three items or even pretends to.

Bowser approved the initial plan

She is responsible for its being so sparse.

She wants to be a Governor - or at minimum to be given control of the NG entirely.  But here she failed her dry run by not being insistent on a tougher force being out there

Be good.

Really not how it works - but thanks

Republican "power" right now will be in vote to impeach, first and foremost.  And not much else after - as the new Congress takes over.

Shooting trump when he hits the ground in Texas would be a very good start, after he is kicked down the steps of the plane.

Curious, Josh -

shouldnt something like this be cleaned up from the board?

This years police have been told to be less forceful, more understanding, and less committed to violence.  Now they are under attack for not shooting on sight at the capital building. Prez elect says, somewhat cynically, we all know what would have happened if they were black. Probably the same exact thing.

Get the fuck out of here with that bullshit

So can we expect four years of divisive race rhetoric and a further demonization of native born middle class American citizens?

---House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said that pro-Trump rioters who breached the Capitol on Wednesday "chose their Whiteness over Democracy."---

Have you been encased 8n carbonate for the last 13 years?

You don’t get to eh8ne about that shit.

Tired of folks coming at me with, “Not everyone who voted for Trump is a white supremacist!”
Maybe not but y’all okay with backing one.

Kind of rare when I agree with Kid. May want to frame it.

Dershowitz:  "Trump will no longer be President and therefore cannot be tried in the Senate"

Rubio:  "We have no choice - if the House impeaches Trump we need to have a trial"

- Both quotes from the same show today

Dershowitz has lost his mojo.

Kid is making the valid point that the time to lockup, disarm, deplatform, isolate, and dispossess all major white nationalist blowhards, including 70% of the GOP members of congress, state legislatures governors, the bench, newsmax, brietbart, OANN, and the whole opinion arm at faux, before they strike again, as they have both announced they will and have planned to do.

Shooting trump when he hits the ground in Texas would be a very good start, after he is kicked down the steps of the plane.

If Melania did it, she would be named a saint & not a court in the land would convict her.

So the violence in the capitol building wasn't enough for you?

WTF is wrong with you?

You're no different than who you claim to loathe.

Fucking extremist.

Dershowitz is simply wrong. No news there - he is serving his client-to-be. But Cass Sunstein tends to agree with him, so maybe it is not purely posturing. There's also media exposure to keep in mind!

OTOH, Kid, we have already held one impeachment and trial after the individual had resigned from office - and back in that year the GOP has been so fond of lately! 1876, we had an impeachment of the (barely) former Sec'y of War. The trial ended with a majority, but not 2/3rds, so he was acquitted.

But the precedent is pretty clear. We have done it, so we can do it. And that's without the impeachment portion happening while the individual was still in, but trial after they've left, which is another position held by some.

Conviction can be done if two thirds of the Senators PRESENT vote.

House can wait to send artivles to Senate months from now if they so desire.

You would prefer the divisive race rhetoric of people like you, I understand, or of President Trump, or the rest of the GOP, and not truth.

Most white people are appalled by the capital invasion. Many do not approve of the mad donald and never did. Using it to promote a radical political agenda based on race is terribly wrong.

 Ullshit, Luce.

The MAJORIYY of White voters backed Trump twice.

https://www.defense.gov/Newsroom/Releases/Release/Article/2467051/planning-and-execution-timeline-for-the-national-guards-involvement-in-the-janu/

The DoD is calling Jan 6th's events, "First Amendment Protests."

That's the kind of whitewashing of events that Kid and Luee seem to want.

Thanks for the link

Further implicates Mayor Bowser

Only to you, who accepts without comment their "First Amendment protests" language, Kid, instead of looking at it as the self-serving line of crap that it is.

(I don't think she needs further implication, but I think *they* feel need to cover their fucking asses.)

Bowser only one in leadership who did what was supposed to be done.

Capitol Police did not request MPD assistance until after the breach DC police cannot go on the Hill without permission from feds.

She requested the DC National Guard for assistance for Tuesday (1/5) through Thursday (1/7) on NY eve and was denied at first.

DoD trying to cover its ass by passing the buck to the fistrict which has NO jurisdiction on federal property.

From the outside looking in...comes the truth?

The Sunday Telegraph;

Seeds of dissent in the US were planted long before the Trump administration

Trump has accepted some blame for the mob that invaded the Capitol this week, but the seeds of dissent were planted four years ago, writes Piers Akerman.

An uneasy calm has descended on Washington but unless the real questions raised by the storming of the Capitol are answered the storm will not dissipate.

President Trump has accepted some blame for creating the mob which invaded the political heart of America, but the seeds of dissent were well planted and watered during the 2016 presidential campaign by Hillary Clinton’s activist supporters.

Clinton herself branded Trump’s supporters as the “basket of deplorables”, ensuring that resistance to her brand of liberal (in the US sense) politics would harden.

Embracing the hard-Left, as she did, and giving extremists like some involved in the Black Lives Matter mob a licence to loot and burn and murder and take over cities like Portland without immediate censure, as The New York Times and CNN did, was always only going to fuel the resentment of Trump supporters toward the elites who have traditionally run the nation.

Those in the middle of the country legitimately complained that their voices weren’t being heard.

J.D. Vance’s best-selling work Hillbilly Elegy, now a film starring Amy Adams and Glenn Close, captured the essence of that overlooked heartland and many turned to the book to try to understand what motivated those who had been ignored to turn to a political outsider like Trump for salvation.
