Personally I'm embarrassed that America elected as obvious a huckster and charlatan and unpleasant bombast as Trump to be president.
I think there are many many signs of American decline, and that Trump could be elected is one of the more unfortunate ones. The worship of money and business has led the US down a corrupt path. Suddenly money is speech; and corporations have religious rights. The hollowing out of the middle class, a conspiracy of both parties, has led to rampant inequality, and great despair among the poor so that we have opioid crises, nativism and resurgent racism.
One party preys on people's fears.
One party calls government the problem.
One party ignores and disregards science.
One party calls the media the enemy of the people.
Trump represents a lot that is wrong with America, including a willingness to engage in name-calling, ignore facts, make up falsehoods, support conspiracy theories, and otherwise glorify ignorance.
I find it very hard to believe the US people won't rise up and remove this stain on the presidency. I believe people will look back and find Trump to either be a horrid aberration, or a significant turning point where America began the process of flushing itself down the toilet.
I don't care much about the President's admittedly colorful personality, I care about the direction the country is headed. Everyone should have health insurance/access to quality health care. That would help tens of millions and make this country better. Wars are evil and should be avoided as much as possible. The military industry should be reduce and arms exports as well. Positive infrastructure should be built, creating jobs and strengthening the nation. Profitable companies should be paying tax that contributes to the welfare of America and Americans. Renewable energy should be supported to improve the environment and create jobs of the future. The blueprint is there. Funding sources as well.
All a lot better than just crony capitalism with wealth creation going mainly to the rich.
