"Who the hell cares about the budget?"
If you're going into debt to spend money on investments in the future, that's fine. Interest rates re extremely low, so 30-year T bills to finance infrastructure repair and building is a good deal, and puts folks to work. You know, the kind of thing that should have happened under Obama to reduce unemployment, give folks good paying jobs, fix crumbling bridges, roads, water systems throughout the US. The kind of thing that helps make America great.
But just cutting taxes on businesses and th erich, getting less revenue, having the gov't go into debt and have to pay more debt service and get NADA is a bad deal. And of course once the DEMs control the White House again, the GOP wills cream about the deficits again, and try to reduce SS, Medicare and prevent any spending that helps working class folks and the poor claiming there isn't money available, and the debt is an important issue.
We've seen this story before.
And the Dems never seem prepared or able to counteract it. They should have been hammering the Bush tax cuts for years. Instead Obama actually extended them for 2 more years during his term. They should talk about the Clinton surplus. An f-ing surplus! That was pissed away while the US was in debt. Even with the Trump tax dumps, the Dems haven't really demonized them enough, explained enough who they benefited, who got screwed, and how it harmed the US.
Dems have to make it clear that tax cuts only benefit the rich, harm the US with debt and less money to help people, of course never pay for themselves, etc. Tax cuts are just used to enrich the rich and prevent the Dems form helping the middle class and poor. This needs to be common knowledge.
Obama got chumped and stumped in this way. Dems need to make sure the next Dem Admin doesn't get similarly hamstrung.
They should have linked tax cuts to the W Bush disasters and prevented Trump form doing it again. But too late there. A major fail.
