The NBA is shit down because 2 French players have COVID-19 -

and there should be no thought of shutting down travel from Europe?

Sheer Democratic naysaying of everything Trump.
Donovan Mitchell is not French.

When was Gobert last in France? You think it is some sort of inherited national trait?

The virus is already here. The horse is out of the barn. Trump's ban focuses on last month's issue, at best.

This makes Whiskey's point; the virus is already inside the border.  A response to it centered around travel bans isn't enough.

If it was true that Trump hadn't been tested after CPAC (and I don't think it was) he has certainly been tested now:

While Trump has been widely criticized for his administration’s handling of the pandemic looming on the American horizon, he has been praised for his relatively early decision to suspend travel from China and Iran. In his remarks from the Oval Office on Wednesday evening, he said, “The European Union failed to take the same precautions and restrict travel from China and other hot spots,” which is true.

“As a result,” Trump said, “a large number of new clusters in the United States were seeded by travelers from Europe.” In fact, as Trump’s own experts have testified, one of the biggest problems containing the spread of what Trump called “a foreign virus” in the U.S. has been the inability to identify the original source in any given group of infections

Well, no it wasn't. What is necessary is an articulated plan for a virus already present in the population...

Yep. There is that, too.

Trump called out for spreading baseless misinformation but kiidcarter8 ever the attentive reader doesn't realize it.

Trump's knee-jerk reaction to everything is a travel ban.  So he banned travel from China and Iran...one week after the first positive test in the US, and probably long after the virus was established here.  A fact that would be better known if the US was better prepared on testing.

Then, after the travel ban, infected Americans are met by healthcare workers who weren't wearing protective gear.

So sure, he gets credit for making one decision (still late) but failed to do everything else that was needed while the window for containment was closing.

Just a coincidence they are French?  In your opinion?

The French players have been here for months, playing basketball presumably, Kid. It's not about France in their cases, so no, they are not an argument for restricting travel from Europe.

But no, none of us has said there should be no thought of shutting down travel from Europe - you want to have a fight with yourself, knock yourself out, but stop pretending we've said shit we haven't said.

And your inability to admit that Trump misspoke last night (vs. merely not being eloquent) is stupid. Just plain stupid.

In other words, for all that Trump claimed that it was seeded by travelers from Europe, that's not actually known.

You should figure out what things mean when you read them, Kid. It would help a lot.

What's the situation with testing now?
Can anyone in the US get tested?
Do you need your doctor's approval first.
Do you have to be showing signs of fever/flu, or is it enough that you crossed paths with someone who was sick or was positive?
I haven't been able to get clear word on what's going on now.

Bo, it's like this:

a) Call the doctor if you have symptoms that you think might be COVID-19.
b) Self-isolate while waiting to be told what to do. Follow all the other guidelines (hand-washing, not touching face, etc.)

If the doc thinks you need testing, you will be called in or directed to a testing location. If there is a delay, call again if symptoms worsen.

Current numbers on testing:

- CDC tested 77 people total this week.  Down from similar amount per day one week ago.
- States are testing on average 50 people for day.
- As of this moment there is one private testing lab in action, with the second one not going up until next week.

In contrast, South Korea has tested 140,000, as many as 10,000 per day.  Including via the drive-thru clinics that kiidcarter8 mocks.

The story here is that testing isn't available to people that need it, and testing is the only way to get this thing under control.

We'll be at that level when tests and protective gear become available
