BTW, Trump collateral damage:
FLA Gov. DeSantis was a Trump guy with little experience who won with Trump backing and has done a terrible job during the crisis.

Here's a local Tampa article detailing his failures, which doesn't even mention the Spring Break fiasco: https://www.tampabay.com/news/health/2020/04/11/why-ron-desantis-popularity-has-taken-a-hit-since-the-pandemic-started/

Basically, DeSantis has been Trump-level disorganized.  His message veers all over.  His directives are unclear.  Like Trump, he punted things to local and county officials, with foreseeable patchwork and poor response.  Has relied on hydroxychloraquine as a miracle drug.  Doesn't use his key officials, and has a chaotic advisory system (mostly relying on his wife who is about to give birth).

In short, DeSantis is a Trump at the state level.  And he's done a horrid job, in a sate riddled with old and vulnerable people.  More ammunition for Biden, and a real opp for Biden to take Florida, since Trumpeting has killed Floridians.

It's always better to have competent and professional leadership.  A crisis just raises the stakes and makes it that much clearer.

I've watched too many elections when the Dems should have won and blew it to feel confident.  But Holy Hell, Trump has turned a crisis into a disaster.  Been a huge blowhard concerned about his TV ratings as he denounces anyone who criticizes him.
Been disorganized, petty, a fount of misinformation, killed off Americans at an impressive rate, and generally been in your face and incompetent.  Belligerantly ignorant.

It's really hard to see how Trump gets more votes than Biden. Then again Hillary got more votes than trump.  But it's hard to see Trump winning the EC again.  He's just shown himself to be incompetent and a horrible human which is a significant handicap.

Really I'm hoping Biden takes time out to ignore Trump and call for a Dem senate and tries to help Dem senate candidates.  Even if Biden wins, you don't want him hamstrung like Obama was, and Hillary would have been.

If you spent a few months working in one of those hellholes (as I did,  when I was 19), you'd never touch meat again.

Just not true, OC.

I know some folks who are sure of what you said, but I know others who have done so and have never batted an eyelash about eating meat.

I took that post as venting rather than rigorous sociological analysis.

Headline that just caught my eye:

Quote
The president has vanished; his wife, the VP, says the coronavirus isn’t a problem.

Is that Ortega?  He's 74 and generally believed to be suffering from chronic illness.

Between DeSantis fumbles,  and the striking down of the "poll tax" on ex felons,  I think FL has a good chance to go blue,  provided people can get the vote out.   The tendency of Trumpistas to be less germophobe makes me a little uneasy though.  Could affect poll turnouts the other direction.   Especially if a second wave of infection happens.

Yes, but the headline.... "his wife, the VP..." --> in how many countries is the VP the president's wife?!

https://www.npr.org/2020/04/10/830348837/covid-19-patients-given-unproven-drug-in-texas-nursing-home-garnering-criticism

Quote
The controversial decision to administer hydroxychloroquine at The Resort at Texas City over the last few days was made by Robin Armstrong, a physician and medical director of the nursing home.

"It's actually going well. People are getting better," Armstrong told NPR, adding that after just a handful of days, some of the 39 patients on the medication are showing signs of improvement.
...
Armstrong admits it is difficult to quantify how much of his elderly patients' improvement is due to the malaria drug or how they would have fared without it. Nor can he explain why other patients are not responding to the tablet doses, though he notes many are only halfway through the five-day cycle.

"To be clear, no one is worse than when they started," he said emphatically. "From my perspective, it's irresponsible to sit back and do nothing. The alternative would have been much much worse."

In total, 87 people at The Resort tested positive — 56 of 135 residents as well as 31 staffers. One patient has since died.

"We know how it happened," Armstrong said, explaining that after one staffer tested positive for COVID-19, Galveston County officials tested all other people at the facility on April 2. What they uncovered was one of the largest outbreaks in the Houston region.

"One staffer spread it to other staffers ... and each of them could work with 20 to 30 patients a day," Armstrong said.

Armstrong said he was alarmed by the test results last week and immediately began making calls to track down a source for the medicine, which is in short supply.

He says it's "a study." No control. No careful monitoring of different amounts of medicine vs. degree of illness. Nothing blind about it.

I hope they all get better, except for the one who already died.

But I also hope the home owner, manager, and doctor have the book thrown at them for mismanagement of the disease to start with - that is a huge percentage of folks to have caught the disease!

Sandinistas came from that Marxist trend towards politicizing families.   Murillo is a relative of Sandino on her mother's side so she was born into La Revolucion de proletaria.  What's impressive is all the high offices she's held while bearing eight children.

https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2020/04/08/nearly-three-in-ten-americans-believe-covid-19-was-made-in-a-lab/

30% of Republicans believe the disease was created intentionally in a lab. 8% believe it was created accidentally. Only 37% believe it is natural (which it is).

16% of Democrats believe it was created intentionally. 5% believe it was created accidentally. Only 52% believe it was natural.

24% of each group are unsure.

Those numbers are despite the fact that Blacks and Hispanics are more likely to believe that it was created rather than natural.

Also, within the Dems, the liberals are roughly 50% more likely to think it's natural than less liberal Dems.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/13/politics/donald-trump-anthony-fauci-tweet/index.html

Meanwhile, Trump retweets a call for firing Fauci, after Fauci said during the weekend that more could have been done sooner and would likely have reduced the number of deaths.

How DARE he be honest!

OTOH:
Quote
A separate Trump adviser tried to explain Trump's weekend retweet, saying the President often retweets posts on Twitter without reading the entire tweet.

"You guys assume he reads tweets before he retweets," the adviser said. "He doesn't."
