Having already hit the projected minimum fatalities for the entire course of the epidemic (in under 6 months!), trump decides its time to disband the Covid Response Team because now his mission is accomplished.

Covid-19 is doing better than anyone could have predicted, thanks to trump. Mission Accomplished.

Transmission Accomplished!

The Coronavirus Task Force was always window dressing.  What exactly did they accomplish in two months, outside of drawing up a set of guidelines for reopening that Republican States and Trump are now ignoring?

The United States of America has surrendered to the Coronavirus, accepting that there will be deaths, because we weren't up to the task of protecting our citizens.

MAGA.

That there's a still a chance and I'd say a pretty good one that he gets re-elected speaks to what a nightmare the Democratic Party has become.

...and how strong MAGA was and still is.

If there wasn't a need for that grand slogan, it never would have stuck at the level it did (thanks, Jared and the rest of the great election staff of 2016)

LOL!  Yeah, thanks Jared:

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/05/05/us/jared-kushner-fema-coronavirus.html

MAGA was an empty slogan, then and now.  There is no measure, ZERO, where the United States is a greater nation now than it was before Trump and his amateur grifters took over and ran things into the ground.

The final death toll will be in the hundreds of thousands, and the economic carnage is just beginning.  kiidcarter8 and REDSTATEWARD want to talk about the great victory of 2016...

Sick fucks.

MAGA.

Take out the reduction of cases in the New York Region and cases in the US are actually rising:

Yup. Perfect time to wrap up the response to COVID.  Time to pivot to Trumps Reelection Campaign uh, I mean, the economy.  Yeah.

As if they only thing preventing people from going to restaurants as a pandemic rages around them are the government restrictions...

And meanwhile, Mitch McConnell has reopened the Senate to urgently serve the American People.

So they immediately took up legislation on a national testing strategy, state aid that would prevent the layoffs of first responders, and a national program to hire contact tracers from the ballooning roles of the unemployed.

No?

No.  Moscow Mitch's first priority was installing a former intern and unqualified partisan hack on the courts.

Americans die.  Business as usual for Republicans.

AND NYC's numbers only stabilized and started to drop because they did a serious lockdown and prophylactic measures.  Sure they came too late, but at least they did them to get things under control.

The problem in most of the US is that half-measures were taken, poorly enforced.  Masks I think only became common in April, etc.  It takes roughly 6-8 weeks to stop transmissions IF you are doing a thorough job of isolating, testing, tracing, precautionary measures.  I'm not sure any state has done that seriously for 8 weeks.  I they did, they could start a gradual reopening.

Quote
We did everything right. Now it’s time to get back to work,” Trmp said. He added that the country has “the best testing,” with more than 7 million now completed, even as some experts say millions more people must be tested every week for the country to safely reopen.

How do people tolerate this flam-flam jerk?
On the subject of testing, the US just decided that Gee maybe they do need to regulate the 150 virus blood tests on the market, many of which seem unreliable or outright money-hustling scams.

Much blame being tossed around at Cuomo today re:  nursing home deaths.

Trump sprang Euro travel ban without warning and took Americans from all over Europe and packed them into chaotic crowds for hours on end at Kennedy, Ohare, Newark and Dallas.
Then sent those thousands of travelers out across the nation.

These folks interact with airport workers, Uber drivers, shuttle bus operators, car rental agents, etc.

Those folks went back to their communities with its grocery stores, church, clubs etc where they interact with home health aides, factory workers and nursing home workers.

Widen your lens if you want to see the whole thing.

Thumbs up,  but you're talking to a poster who sealioned us on how visiting a barber could possibly pose a risk.   (which seems even more risky, given Josh's updates on the newer mutation of covid and on how some valved facemasks may actually increase transmission from the wearer)

How do people tolerate the "flim-flam jerk"?  (Bo was being rhetorical,  but I'll answer anyway)

One,  information bubbles.  In the post-truth era,  people look to whomever they've been told is a strong person.   It's anachronistic tribal thinking,  hardwired into humans,  which excludes all contrary data.   One you drink the kool-aid of Trump-as-powerful, then you simply reside in the tweet bubble and the faux news bubble.

Second,  fear.   Achtung and all that.   Even if you know the flim flammery truth,  self-preservation inhibits action and speaking out.   Especially in the red states,  where the maga-maniacs are in control and many heavily armed.   So you hunker down and console yourself and others with this too shall pass...   A nice little opium dream.

Three,  raw stupidity.   We,  as a nation,  have been letting our public schools erode,  and an electronic culture that favors soundbites over critical thinking and in-depth analysis has not helped.   Corporate culture loves a soundbite world,  which is a perfect growing medium for uncritical acceptance of consumerism.  Soundbite thinkers are easy to sell fungible junk to.    They're also easy prey to racist memes and simplistic campaign platforms about fearing the Other.

Four,  lethargy and complacency.  Many Americans breathe bad air,  eat shitty food, and embrace a car culture that deprives them of the most minimal exercise.  They are thus tired and passively willing to go with the flow,  no matter how foul that flow may be.   The sci-fi film "Wall-E" wasn't about the future,  it was about right now.  (as are most sci-fi movies)

Correction to above:  Josh's link was just on the new mutation.  The link on the problem with some valved facemasks was on that website,  but Josh didn't post it here.  Here it is....

You want some quick hits?

America is really in a sad state of decline.  Trump's just a symptom.  Or maybe he's been upgraded to a virus.  But culturally, spiritually, healthwise, economically -- America is in bad shape.  A militaristic country with endless wars that thinks it's always right and willing to learn nothing from other countries.  Obesity and its related ills, plus rampant opioid abuse were already ongoing health crises in the USofA.   The economy is rigged so the rich get richer and the rest just scrape by.  Pretty much the only salvation America has is the continual brain drain from poor countries.  It was reported that 30% of doctors in the US were foreign born.  While America's technological advantage keeps shrinking.  It's hard to see positives in the US system.  The workers are disunited mainly due to racism, so likely not much will change.

It may be garbage (though you don't actually engage with,  or rebut,  any of my comments) but four paragraphs is not what "soundbite" means.   If you clip something from a longer post,  it is YOU who create the soundbite.
