But the simplest way to defund the police is to decriminalize drugs.
Once you end drug prohibition, suddenly there's much less crime and you need much fewer police and smaller budgets.  Magical.

The union leaders have to change.

Might I suggest the "BLM protesters" as they're now being called...stay away from Polk County Florida;

Sheriff Grady Judd recommends residents shoot looters who break into homes.
He is being lauded on my radio today.

"I would tell them, if you value your life, they probably shouldn't do that in Polk County," Grady said. "Because the people of Polk County like guns, they have guns, I encourage them to own guns, and they're going to be in their homes tonight with their guns loaded, and if you try to break into their homes to steal, to set fires, I'm highly recommending they blow you back out of the house with their guns. So, leave the community alone."

My guess is the 99%+ of the protestors are protesting the deaths of innocent people guilty of only their skin color, crushed by abusive police powers

Nice man in a wheelchair, cerebral palsy, withdrew some money from an ATM, two young men standing close by grabbed his money and ran off.
The police...got involved...thieves soon captured...love those cameras everywhere!

Even though many US police departments’ duties are responding to non-violent, non-emergency calls, departments have expanded their military-style arsenal in recent years. US police kill more people in days than many other countries do in years.

As if I like to see a Black man, or any person being slowly crushed to death under the knee of a cop, or anyone.

The protesters are burning everything in sight...including social housing under construction, looting everything in sight, stabbing cops, shooting cops [including retired Black cops], killing people.
One older Black lady was devastated to see her business looted and destroyed.
The protesters don't care..."it's all for change" they cry.

Now they've inspired the usual suspects downunder, had a rally with 3000 the other night, now the dim-witted politicians have given them a permit to have another one on Sat, maybe 10,000 to 30,000.
Supposed to be social distancing.
The dimwits are only allowing 20 people at weddings and 50 at funerals...but are allowing this lot to have many thousands at a "BLM protest" in Sydney.
Hope it turns out better that the "Muslim riots" in 2012.
The other night they were marching thru the city holding up placards..."the only good cop is a dead one", "all cops are bastards".
The one on Sat will be ending at City Hall.
They'd better just walk along like good little protesters and not start burning anything, looting anything or defacing Queen Victoria's statue...or they'll be drama. This city is in no mood for anarchy.

Drug prices are highly inflated due to the illegality and associated risks of transporting and selling.

Heroin, cocaine and methamphetamine are very readily available and used/abused now, under the illegal regime.  Crackdowns and jailing s and such never reduce supply.  Or it seems demand.  Time to try another approach which doesn't involve caging people at great cost to the state and their lives.

Side benefits include safer drugs as they are regulated and tested.  As opposed to now where people put stuff in their veins cut with all sorts of junk.  Also, there are plenty of people who use illegal drugs and live productive lives (unless they get jailed).  Why is it the govt's business if someone wants to take cocaine?  Just as with alcohol and tobacco, tax it and discuss the health dangers, and try to reduce the harm, but let adults live their lives as they choose without fear of incarceration and a police record.

One can be outraged and calm.
