Why do they need to both quote the tweet and then embed the tweet?
One or the other would work fine.
Why double quote something twice in an article?
It's silly and I assume nobody reads or needs to read the same tweet twice.

So you think the media embeds the tweet itself to prove it was tweeted, so the tweet is not deleted or altered later (can you modify a tweet?)

dnyuz does what I'd consider correctly quoting a tweet.
They set the tweet up with a general description followed by the embedded tweet with a link to that on twitter.

Some people consume web content in text only format as can some aggregators. Josh makes a good point about tweets taken down as well.

If you have any spare cash left, send it to Eric Holder. We need him to hire a lot more lawyers if we want elections this November and not shit shows.

Also, stay in the streets. Much much more work to do.

Denver Police Fire Pepper Bullets at Car Carrying Pregnant Woman
Quote
‘F*ck you! You shot a car with a pregnant woman in it. With f*cking tear gas!’ — Denver police have launched an investigation after officers were filmed firing pepper bullets at a pregnant woman in a car (warning: distressing)

Not the first time that the Denver police have fired at folks who were not even remotely threatening them.

But what are the protests about?!

Not for nothing I believe it was an interracial couple.

Still not big on banning members of any online group,  unless it's at the level of promoting violence,  instructions on making weapons,  stalking,  physical threats,  that sort of thing.   A lot of racist comments are free speech best countered by more free speech exposing and condemning it.   And you can't expose that which is censored.   I feel racism withers faster when you get sunlight on it.   Not driving it back under it's rock.

When you post banning memes,  you just give fuel to the "Lefties are cryptofascists" school of thought.   And finally, you let Bambi et al  post,  which suggests that you agree with the free speech argument I'm making.

Brown and King have retained an attorney who said DPD needs to change their behavior and their policies surrounding the use of pepper ball rounds.

Well, there you have it...

A sidenote:

  ....
Very strange double twitter quotes have become the accepted norm.

Have wondered about that,  too.   Genuinely annoying when one is reading.

Edit:  OK,  just saw Josh's reply about tweets being deleted (very active here overnight).

Raises another side question -- would people choose their words more carefully if they knew tweets could not be deleted.

Dude - Georgia voting system being a shitshow has little to do with Republicans

Get the real info and get back to us.

Hopefully they can fix it by November.

You are easily annoyed.

Likely has something to do with needing to quote directly and attribute evidence to the quote

Otherwise anyone can run around saing -

"Trump said ---------- on Twitter".

Checks itself.

The firing and the charges are certainly just in NM case

But I ask -

should officers just allow tough to arrest individuals to flee?

Stick to the question - tell me as a cop what you would do after multiple attempts to subdue someone who had broken the law.  There is no wrong answer.

Aside from the snark, did you have a position on the use of pepper balls?   What about tear gas,  bean bags,  rubber bullets?   Is inflicting potentially serious injuries on protestors a good way to deescalate violence?   Does it advance the peace restoring mission of law enforcement ?   Does it really (except for a brief moment)  suppress a protest which is specifically against the excessive use of force by police

Ask yourself this:  why are police in many countries public safety officers,  but here they are a paramilitary cadre?

Keep marching for justice. Good things happen when, for the most part, we march for justice together.

It’s also why we have to put down the tyrannical pigs who try to replace democracy with thuggery. Republican gaslighting and abuse needs to die under the steady tramp of 400,000,000 heels.

Protests have wings.

Not every time. Not each time. But as they build.

I’ve never seen anything like this.

First time in my adult life I’ve felt this hopeful.
Well, it is like Emily Dickinson once wrote, hope is the thing with feathers that fucks you over in the end and leaves you a cynical, broken old man. Much of that quote gets redacted in anthologies.

Suddenly reminded of the old days on the NYT books forum when the NYT censorship filter made us resort to conversations about Moby Schlong, Charles Penisens and my personal favorite, Emily BloodEngorgedAlabasterMeatPoleinson.

Was letting him go or strangulation really the only choice there?   Your either/or seems false and absurdly so.   Maybe we should be more worried about a system that has renamed strangulation "vascular neck restraint."

To answer your question -- if I have someone to where I can strangle them,  I think the apprehension has succeeded and I do not need to then go ahead and strangle them.   This would seem a fairly obvious answer, but I know that the concept of cops acting like civilized human beings is a difficult one for you.

Shows like Cops are the easiest way for the vegetably minded to grasp the world, and folks like that always take the easiest way.

Biden will be the 45th President in January....

No, dumbfuck - he won't

President vs. "president."

Outside of winning the Electoral College by 70,000 votes, Trump has not been a President in any meaningful sense of the word.

Yes he has.

On foreign policy he's been dyn-o-mite.
He's the 'Christian' West's only hope in the South China Sea.
Our only hope of stopping China's taking over of the world.

Dynamite in the sense of blowing up a lot of good things and replacing them with worse, while giving rhetoric that makes you think he's done something.

I've pointed out your gullibility, before. It's right up there with Kid, who eagerly repeats whatever Trump or his sycophants have said or tweeted.

His climate, Iran, NATO, NAFTA, and Russia international approaches have been daft, at best, but you have swallowed them hook, line, and sinker. His "love" for Kim Jong Un has been an epic fail. And China's been undaunted in the South China Sea.

It is Vietnam, Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei and Taiwan and Indonesia upon whom the South China Sea rests. And on Deng's willingness to go to war with everybody - or belief that others will hold firm.

There is no "firm" in Donald Trump. I don't know if there is enough in Joe Biden, but Trump has long since folded too often to serve as more than a speed bump to China.

He’s already sold Australia to the Chinese for rub-and-tug trademarks with which to woo his daughter. Xi is not letting #1 radio host mention this, so he hasn’t and Bambu doesn’t know.

Now China is warning/advising its students not to go to Australia to study...."racist, "not safe",
So they have read your posts.
