I think most people read the WSJ for its factual reporting on business and economics and not its political content nor its editorial stances. Most understand the business reporting and its editorial role are two separate and distinct funtions and hope that the editorial stances, which are clearly condervative, does not impact the journalistic integrity or accuracy of the news function. I think its very broad readership among the political spectrum reflects that it presents a reliable news product which investors can rely upon to help make investment decisions.
I think most people read the NYT for its far broader scope. which most consider best of class journalism, focusing on national and international news, and also its coverage of the sciences, arts and culture which may hold national significance. Its editorial stance is liberal moderate yet it provides alternative voices in its Op-ed pages. I read the Op-ed pieces more oftern than the editorials. Very few read it for the sports section.
I read it for the Sunday comics section.
