If Nixon was his own deep throat that still wouldn’t be as dumb or as bad as what trump is doing.

If Woodward can outmaneuver and outthink trump to this degree, how far does a player like Putin have his hooks into him? How deep in is MBS?

Of course he was.  He was in his first term with the goal of governing to get a second term.
Handling a potential health crisis without inducing panic was a top priority.  Even Knicks got that right.

Yes, handling a potential health crisis was Obama's priority.  It wasn't Trump's.  Again:

Quote
White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said the president’s words to the public were designed to express confidence and calm at a time of insurmountable challenges.

There are a few issues with this explanation:

- The big one is that Trump wasn't expressing confidence and calm.  He was lying.  Sying cases would be down to zero when he knew they wouldn't be, comparing COVID to the Flu when he knew it was much worse, etc.

- It also isn't like he was taking action behind the scenes while keeping everyone calm in public.  His actions matched his words.  He said COVID wasn't a threat, and he didn't treat it like one until it was too late.

- Very obviously, dealing with COVID requires that the public be informed, otherwise there is no way of containing it.  So keeping people "calm" isn't the priority when that isn't what keeps them safe.  Their knowing what is going on is what would have kept them safe.

The fact is, when Trump says he didn't want to create a "panic" he was talking about the markets and the shutdown measures because he saw them primarily as threats to his reelection.

You don't handle the crisis by telling lies.  Especially not when handling that crisis requires buy-in by the public.

H1N1 was a dangerous strain of the flu, but it was the flu.  Trump was out there calling COVID the flu when he knew it was five times more deadly.  That isn't keeping the public calm, thats lying to the public and putting their lives in danger.  And it was all about the markets.

I find those anonymous cut/pasted paragraphs of partisan spin so... compelling!

Shame on Joe for thinking h1n1 could be more severe and thus recommending travel restrictions and avoiding confined spaces!

H1N1...

Trump was told in January/Early February that COVID was five times deadlier than any flu, then spent two months sitting on his hands and lying to the public about it.

REDSTATEWARD has no way to defend actions that lead to 190,000 dead Americans, but he likes Tax Cuts, so...
Well, let’s see.
February 2 — Global Air Travel Is Restricted

By 5 pm on Sunday, those en route to the United States have to have left China or they can face a 2-week home-based quarantine if they had been in Hubei province. Mainland visitors, however, will need to undergo health screenings upon their return, and foreign nationals can even be denied admittance. Other countries beginning to impose similar air-travel restrictions at this point include Australia, Germany, Italy, and New Zealand.

February 3 — US Declares Public Health Emergency

The Trump administration declares a public health emergency due to the coronavirus outbreak. The announcement comes 3 days after WHO declared a Global Health Emergency as more than 9800 cases of the virus and more than 200 deaths had been confirmed worldwide.

February 10 — China’s COVID-19 Deaths Exceed Those of SARS Crisis

The COVID-19 death toll surpasses that of the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) outbreak from 17 years ago, totaling 908 reported deaths in China in the last month compared with 774 deaths in the SARS crisis.

February 25 — CDC Says COVID-19 Is Heading Toward Pandemic Status

February 25 - Nancy Pelosi live on TV invites “ everyone” to visit Chinatown and deplores xenophobia.

"Well, lets see..."

LOL.  Yeah you really got me there.  Amounts to the China Travel "Ban" which wasn't actually a ban and has since proven to be completely insufficient to mitigating the spread.

Shit, we wish we had China's numbers right now.  We don't because Trump failed.  And he failed because he was lying to Americans when he needed to be telling the truth.

Biden wanted to confront the problem head on and Obama told him to back off to avoid panicking the nation.
Are you paying attention?

And you're claiming that Obama got lucky the virus wasn't deadlier.
1.  So doesn't that mean that Biden had the smarter more careful approach, even if it turned out not necessary (by sheer luck)?
2. Dealing with a virus honestly and actively doesn't equate to PANIC!
But rather being safe and careful, protecting lives.  Good government.
3. Biden's instincts on dealing with a highly transmissible and potentially deadly virus is to take precautions early and protect people.  Hurray.  Exactly what Trump failed to do with CV-19 with disastrous results for most Americans.
4. So as you've cited and proved, Biden would have handled the Virus much better than Trump.  With likely an early effective response.

Thanks for playing ...

"Dealing with the virus honestly" Yup.

If Obama had been told that the virus was the number one national security threat and was five times deadlier than the flu, he wouldn't have told Biden to take it down a notch, he would have been out there telling people to stay home.  In 2009 he was briefed on the threat, and acted accordingly.

Trump was briefed on the threat at the end of 2019, and used that info to sacrifice American lives at the altar of the stock market.  While his Republican colleagues used it to profit from the coming crisis.

Simply no defense of this.  That the usual suspects here are still trying just all the more proof that their addled brains are in thrall to a dangerous cult.

https://beta.ctvnews.ca/national/coronavirus/2020/9/9/1_5098382.html

Cats may be catching COVID-19 at a higher rate than was previously suspected - but also may have a system that deals with it better than the human system seems to.

My favorite is that some of the cats have "binding antibodies" that latch onto COVID-19 cells and keep them from working. Lots more to learn about this before we understand any of it, I think.

and the scoreboard is still running on the economic loss, the sick and the dead.

You need to stop, you fraction of a man.

The most idiotic aspect of Kid's post is that he complains about this, while his reaction to RAGE is to say that it won't "drive voting."

Ward's "defense" of it is to cite the one thing that Trump did almost right. And even that, Trump had to lie about, claiming full credit for what had not been his idea.

But both of them are so deep into their positions that they cannot admit (and perhaps not even to themselves) how awful this was, all of it. They cannot admit how awful it is that Trump's ego drove him to have these interviews. That Trump's intellectual limitations and/or self-dishonesty would prompt him to claim that he is seeking to avoid panic in Americans while at the same time Trump is stoking fears about voting, about BLM, about Antifa.

They cannot look at Dan Coats' words or James Mattis' words and respond with a "Wow, that's terrible." They cannot read that Wolf directed our intelligence analysts to stop presenting findings on Russia, but to focus on China and Iran and hear dangerous kowtowing to a president's vanity and political interests. They cannot hear Coats' saying that he thinks Putin must have something on Trump and wonder aloud with us if perhaps it is true - because Dan Coats is not some flaming liberal or a never-Trumper, but he must be "a bitter ex-employee," because why else would he say such things.

As former CIA Director John Brennan tweeted, "Donald Trump reveals what an absolute abomination he is. If he had a conscience or a soul, he would resign. Tragically for us, he has neither."

And if Ward or Kid had either conscience or soul, they would admit that this president sounds dangerous and that he butchered the handling of COVID-19.

In a totally separate ethical issue, but created by this series of interviews, I have to say I am unconvinced that Bob Woodward served anybody but Bob Woodward for the most part, here.

What might have been different if in March Woodward had shared with America the tapes of Trump telling the truth about the hazard of COVID-19?

https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1304042651147284480

Quote
Bob Woodward had my quotes for many months. If he thought they were so bad or dangerous, why didn’t he immediately report them in an effort to save lives? Didn’t he have an obligation to do so? No, because he knew they were good and proper answers. Calm, no panic!

No, Mr. President. It is because Bob Woodward was as compromised in his way as you in yours.

Woodward defends decision to withhold Trump’s virus comments

Quote
“He tells me this, and I’m thinking, ‘Wow, that’s interesting, but is it true?’ Trump says things that don’t check out, right?” Woodward told the AP during a telephone interview. Using a famous phrase from the Watergate era, when Woodward’s reporting for the Post helped lead to President Richard Nixon’s resignation, Woodward said his mission was to determine, “What did he know and when did he know it?”

On Twitter and elsewhere online, commentators accused Woodward of valuing book sales over public health. “Nearly 200,000 Americans have died because neither Donald Trump nor Bob Woodward wanted to risk anything substantial to keep the country informed,” wrote Esquire’s Charles P. Pierce.

And Pierce is right.

Because it did not take from March until September for Woodward to verify that what Trump was saying about the virus was true. It just didn't.

Woodward is as indicted by his own inactions as Trump is by his, or Bolton by his.

Kubrick's Law is a close second to Godwin's Law on any political message board.   In any discussion there will be a reference to Dr Strangelove.

Pretty amusing troll session,  as Red slowly grasps that his critique of Biden is actually showing Joe as the voice of reason.   So he tacks into the headwind by reverting to his usual Obama attack mode.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/09/09/politics/trump-campaign-events-nevada-canceled/index.html

Quote
Two Trump campaign events scheduled to take place in Nevada this weekend were canceled, according to Adam Laxalt, a Nevada co-chair of Trump's campaign.

The announcement comes after The Nevada Independent reported that the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority said that President Donald Trump's planned campaign rally for Saturday violated the state directive limiting gatherings to 50 people and that the event "may not proceed."

Quote
"Outrageous! @realDonaldTrump rally venues in NV canceled. Welcome to (Nevada Gov. Steve) Sisolak's Nevada -- home of partisan political retribution," tweeted Laxalt, who lost the 2018 gubernatorial race to Sisolak. "This is unprecedented -- to cancel an incumbent President's campaign stop inside 60 days of a major contested election in a swing state. This isn't over!"

Joe Rajchel, a spokesperson McCarran International Airport, told CNN that the campaign event the Trump campaign was advertising at the airport was never approved, and that they had not received a formal application to host the event from the company that the Trump campaign had worked with to use a hangar on airport grounds.

The Trump campaign had originally announced plans to hold two rallies in Nevada this weekend, one at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport on Saturday and the other at McCarran in Las Vegas on Sunday.

Trump's campaign communications director, Tim Murtaugh, said that Trump would still be traveling to Nevada on the dates planned and that additional details would be "announced soon."

"Democrats are trying to keep President Trump from speaking to voters because they know the enthusiasm behind his reelection campaign cannot be matched by Joe Biden -- a historically weak candidate controlled by the radical left who could hold a campaign event in a broom closet," Murtaugh said.

Sisolak tweeted that the governor's office had "no involvement or communication with the event organizers or potential hosts regarding the proposed campaign events advertised by the Trump campaign." He said statewide emergency directives to limit the spread of Covid-19 include "mandatory face coverings, limitations on public and private gatherings to no more than 50 people."

"The Nevada-specific White House recommendations have consistently included recommendations to limit the size of gatherings for weeks now," the governor tweeted.

Trump's recent campaign events have violated state mandates put in place to stop the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
Trump's rally in North Carolina on Tuesday violated Gov. Roy Cooper's mandate that outdoor gatherings be limited to 50 people. The President and most of his gathered supporters also did not wear masks, despite there being a statewide mask mandate in place in North Carolina. Before Tuesday's event, the Republican chairman of the local county commission where the rally was held said the President should wear a mask during his speech.

"The fact that Donald Trump was even considering holding these unsafe events in the midst of a global pandemic is just the latest example of his poor judgment and complete disregard for Nevadans' public health and safety," Nevada State Democratic Party spokeswoman Madison Mundy said in a statement.

Mundy said, "The state is currently reeling from a pandemic exacerbated by Trump's disastrous coronavirus response. Limitations on in-person gatherings in Nevada were established to fill the void in leadership created by Trump. Thanks to emergency directives implemented by state leadership, great progress has been made in controlling deadly outbreaks. Trump is only the victim of his own incompetence."[/size]

Dead on Sept. 7th.

Kid and Ward never did tell us how many teachers' lives they were prepared to sacrifice on the altar of "schools must reopen."

And lets take for a moment as truth the obviously false argument that Trump's concerns about "Panic!" were concerns over public safety and not concerns about the stock market...

How did that prioritization work out?

Did it turn out to be a good decision to prioritize calm over getting the public to buy into safety measures?

Another day, another piece of Trump corruption moves forward in the courts:

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/lawsuit-against-trump-inaugural-committee-can-continue-judge-rules-n1239703

Quote
A judge denied a bid Wednesday to dismiss a lawsuit alleging that President Donald Trump's inaugural committee and the Trump Organization misused nonprofit funds to enrich the president's family business.

The suit, brought by Washington, D.C., Attorney General Karl Racine in January, alleges that the president's inaugural committee was aware that it was being overcharged for services at Trump's Washington hotel in 2017 and still spent over $1 million at the hotel, including money for a private party for Trump's three older children.

The inaugural committee argued in part that Racine's office failed to show a violation of the Nonprofit Act and does not allege that the committee is "continuing to act" in a manner that violates the law, court papers say.

But D.C. Superior Court Judge José López ruled against the defendants, writing that Racine's office has "sufficiently alleged that Defendant PIC is continuing to act in a prohibited manner," referring to the Trump inaugural committee.

Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, who organized the inauguration, provided tens of thousands of electronic documents to Racine's office, which were used to support the lawsuit's allegations.

"It's important that the truth come out and justice be served," Winston Wolkoff said Wednesday.
