Biden won't make them mandatory

Why not?

Because if he did he would have to police it.
And as we all know there is a certain percentage of the American population that would say "NO"!

Yep.  Trump poisoned the waters by politicized the Virus and mask wearing.

Biden can do a lot of good by talking up mask use, putting out mask guidelines, highlighting scientific studies on masks such as this one, and putting pressure on states to call for mask usage.

At this point mandating masks would probably not be effective, be divisive and hard to enforce.  Still Biden can save some significant % of that 55,000 unnecessary deaths over the next 4 months by promoting mask wearing.

I don't see how anyone can absolve Trump, who has just totally given up, moved,on and doesn't care that the virus is spreading rapidly.  200K infected per day?  3000 deaths per day?  A total catastrophe the president is ignoring.  Extreme indifference to lives and health.

It’s who he is.

Yes our prez is an extreme narcissist who lacks empathy and whose judgement is greatly impaired. CV-19 was the perfect storm.

Unemployment benefits question

Is the extra $300 per week automatically added or is there a separate process?

I assume this covers ALL US unemployed, not just the COVID related?

Thanks.

CHRSTMAS DAY CNN IDIOCY

That was from yesterday, not from Christmas Day.

And the top story changes regularly, so that link is not necessarily going to tell us a damned thing about whatever you are after, Kid.

If you want us to see a specific headline, COPY & PASTE THE HEADLINE YOU WANT US TO SEE.

The idiocy, for the slower among you

Every US coronavirus death is preventable, health expert says

Dean of tropical medicine - heh

"Every death that we're talking about this afternoon is preventable," Dr. Peter Hotez, dean of tropical medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, told CNN on Thursday. "None of this has to happen.

"We have the ability to stop these deaths, getting vaccines out, keeping masks on, social distancing. We just have to get everyone to hang in there a few more weeks."

Proper care and MEDICATION, you ass crack - is the only thing that can prevent deaths of current COVID patients.

And there will of course STILL be deaths after we get a handle on all this.

Tropical guy needs to learn from MORBID JOSH - state none of the deaths HAD to happen - if Trump had just waved a wand sooner..  Not that the people currently sick dont have to die - because of vaccines and masks.

Either quite poorly related or the guy is a joke.

Many fewer of these deaths had to happen - if Trump had just (a) backed masks as soon as WHO, CDC, and/or Fauci did; (b) acted as soon as he knew how dangerous the novel coronavirus was; {c) contrary to your bogus claims, fixed the mask shortage we had nationally by pushing the Defense Production Act when congressman first raised it with him.

Had he simply admitted it was very dangerous instead of minimizing it from the outset, it would have changed the course of this discussion, Kid.

Why you insist on denying that has nothing to do with reason.

It’s who he is.

200,000 still being infected per day?
It's the fault of the states, and many of the people in them.
They simply refuse to wear masks and social distance.
Trump virtually has no power over the states and the people in them.
The states are basically independent countries that do just as they please.
Lord knows what will happen when the US population is 400m and 500m when a pandemic strikes.

Not only in America though...

This is what happens when you don't mandate things and enforce the laws made.

300 backpackers gather at Bronte for boozy beach Christmas party

While many Sydney families celebrated Christmas apart to stay safe, hundreds of travellers have been chased from Bronte beach by police after a boozy party flouted COVID-19 restrictions. SEE THE PICTURES

Hundreds of “irresponsible” travellers partying beachside on Christmas Day have been slammed by health officials after police and the riot squad were forced to kick the rowdy group out due to social distancing concerns.
The hundreds-strong mob began to form on the grass at Bronte Beach Park in the afternoon, with revellers in Santa hats blasting music, drinking and mingling closely together despite the current COVID-19 restrictions.

He said there was “alcohol everywhere” even though Bronte is a drink-free zone.

If only we had New Zeland’s quality of leadership.

We had to learn the hard way a crooked ruling party does our nation no good.

Permanent minority status for all republicans is the only way forward and out of the multifaceted messes of trumpism.

Nah, what you need is ScoMo style leadership....not NZ style leadership, it's too cosy with China....and far too leftist.

I'd have to check to be sure, but I believe China hasn't had one CV-19 related death in 8 months.

China had a 2 month lockdown period from Jan 21 - March 22.
Followed by a careful 2 month gradual reopening.
Mask wearing, temp checks, contact tracing during that time.
Transmission were stopped; the epidemic was eliminated by the end of April.
From there it was just a matter of being careful near borders and ports of entry.

Quote
A modelling study calculated that the public health actions undertaken by China between Jan 29 and Feb 29 may have prevented 1·4 million infections and 56 000 deaths.

So yes, almost all of the US deaths and illnesses were unnecessary and could have been stopped.  Which is better, two months of economic inactivity, followed by life returning normal with few illnesses and deaths; or 10 months of illness, death, fear, and economic disruption?
