Hey, GA GOP folks - no point in voting. Trump says this is all illegal and invalid, so I am sure he will get the results tossed.

More drama?

Yay.....

As log as we get some things squared away for 2022 and beyond

TRUMP again doing the nation a great service in sticking to his guns.
What, specifically, needs to be squared away? Trump has been lying about the election and lying a out the evidence for months before he got his ass.whipped. Every single.lawsuit he brought has been tossed out of court, either because there is no evidence or 9n the formerly conservative principles that states run their own ection. The only thing to be squared away is hauling Trump's ass out of the bully pulpit.

For the first time in 144 years we have a loser who refuses to admit he lost and he is trying to overthrow the legitimate results of a free and fair election. He and his  anti democracy followers need to be identified, remembered and eliminated at the ballot box.
What is “ anti democratic” about challenging the results of an election?
It has been done many times and none have been successful at the Presidential level.
What is “ anti democratic “ is blaming a winning candidate for colluding with a foreign government to illegally interfere in an election with absolutely no proof.
You are an intellectually dishonest ass. And not worth arguing with. But riddle me this Buttman: under what circumstances would the Russia investigation have overturned any valid, fair and free election? No one was using that to put Clinton in office. Republicans are using evidence free baseless conspiracy theories to undermine a valid, fair and free election.

LOL!
We have to go no further back than four years to find democrats in Congress doing the same thing you accuse republicans of doing this year.  Is it only “ anti democratic “ when you don’t like it?

The Appeals Court made fast work of Gohmert's appeal of the dismissal of his suit:

https://www.cnn.com/2021/01/02/politics/gohmert-pence-electoral-college-case-appeal-dismissed/index.html

Quote
"We need say no more, and we affirm the judgment essentially for the reasons stated by the district court. We express no view on the underlying merits or on what putative party, if any, might have standing. The motion to expedite is dismissed as moot. The mandate shall issue forthwith," read the ruling.

I am sure that Gohmert, et al. will try to appeal to SCOTUS, where I doubt they will get cert, but even if they do they will once again be found to not have standing.

So what's Trump's end game here?
I can see the value to Trump of contesting to the end, so that he can continue to fundraise off of a "stolen election" and
maintain the fiction he won.  But does he have any actual hope or avenue of staying in office?
Is there any way that they can muck up the Electoral College certification enough that they can bring a lawsuit directly to the Supreme Court
where Trump has all along counted on having backing?  That was the early Trump end strategy, and the trumpeters
don't really do plan B's well.  They stick to their first mucky goal.
There's already the precedent (read: non-precedent) of the Supreme Court intervening to give a disputed election to the GOP, which I didn't imagine possible until it happened.
So my Q: is there any way Trump stops Bidne form taking over?

Yeah, man - good post

Very good NYT read on what went wrong and how trump prioritized politics and didn't try to control the Virus.  Also how the infighting among various dept heads led to chaos and ineffectiveness, until all were pushed aside for the Dr. Trump found on Fox News.

Trump’s Focus as the Pandemic Raged: What Would It Mean for Him?

And since the Trump WH has a been a sieve and everything else that has come out has been verified, I'm pretty sure this is all true and will be (further) verified.  Trump trashed too many reputations for folks not to talk and tell their side and try to make themselves look good/better.

Some key parts:

Quote
But the president had long seen testing not as a vital way to track and contain the pandemic but as a mechanism for making him look bad by driving up the number of known cases.

I'd also add that testing was so uncoordinated and botched that most results took too long to become totally useless in terms of contact tracing or preventing a CV positive person from infecting others.  It wasn't until what October? when the US started using the quick antigen tests which China relied on from the very start.

Quote
His concern? That the man he called “Sleepy Joe” Biden, who was leading him in the polls, would get credit for a vaccine, not him.

Quote
Threats of firings worsened the leadership vacuum as key figures undercut each other and distanced themselves from responsibility.

Quote
“Making masks a culture war issue was the dumbest thing imaginable,” one former senior adviser said.

Quote
His own experience to the contrary, he assured a crowd at the White House just a week after his hospitalization, “It’s going to disappear; it is disappearing.”

Somehow the Right prefers to use Trump's statement that the Vaccine would be available before the end of the year, instead of some other Trump quotes such as the above bit of errant fictive nonsense.

On Masks:

Quote
Tony Fabrizio, the president’s main pollster, came to the Oval Office for a meeting in the middle of the summer prepared to make a surprising case: that mask wearing was acceptable even among Mr. Trump’s supporters.

Fabrizio presented the numbers. According to his research, some of which was reported by The Washington Post, voters believed the pandemic was bad and getting worse, they were more concerned about getting sick than about the virus’s effects on their personal financial situation, the president’s approval rating on handling the pandemic had hit new lows and a little more than half the country did not think he was taking the situation seriously.

Fabrizio’s finding that more than 70 percent of voters in the states being targeted by the campaign supported mandatory mask wearing in public, at least indoors, including a majority of Republicans.

Mr. Kushner, who along with Hope Hicks, another top adviser, had been trying for months to convince Mr. Trump that masks could be portrayed as the key to regaining freedom to go safely to a restaurant or a sporting event, called embracing mask-wearing a “no-brainer.”

But Mark Meadows, the White House chief of staff — backed up by other aides including Stephen Miller — said the politics for Mr. Trump would be devastating.  “The base will revolt,” Mr. Meadows said, adding that he was not sure Mr. Trump could legally make it happen in any case.

Pathetic:
Quote
Some of the doctors on the task force, including Dr. Anthony S. Fauci and Dr. Robert R. Redfield, were reluctant to show up in person at the White House, worried that the disdain there for mask wearing and social distancing would leave them at risk of infection.

Quote
Dr. Hahn became disillusioned with what he saw as its efforts to politicize the work of the Food and Drug Administration, and he eventually shied away from task force meetings, fearing his statements there would leak.

Uh:
Quote
Dr. Atlas told Mr. Trump that the right way to think about the virus was how much “excess mortality” there was above what would have been expected without a pandemic.

Mr. Trump seized on the idea, often telling aides that the real number of dead was no more than 10,000 people.

That last line about excess mortality makes even less sense than the rest of it, as it is a total misinterpretation of the data, which says how many more people died from COVID-19 than our official figures, rather than fewer deaths.

(NOTE: The excess mortality figures around the country make a joke of Ward's repeated position that our deaths reported is inflated or Kid's similar, but slightly twisted views on the topic.)

https://www.cnn.com/2021/01/03/us/ahmaud-arbery-case-motions-victim-photo/index.html

Just a wee bit of hubris or desperation on the part of the defendant's lawyers.

Don't refer to Arbery as a victim! It could be prejudicial.

Only one picture of him in the case, please. And don't let one of his relatives identify him in that one photo.

Also, exclude our clients' phone calls while in prison, even though admitting such things is standard practice.

And we want all of Arbery's records of anything and everything, as if that will somehow exonerate us from running him down and killing him.

What's the difference between the GOP efforts this year and past efforts, with regard to protesting the votes?

Here's one Republican politician's answer:
