If we, as a nation, survive the next two years it will take generations to undo the damage be8ng done to our institutions by the GOP and the Russian marionette in the White House.
With three months to go 2018 will be one of the stronger years of job growth since the recession.
Despite the grudging recognition of the strong economy Obama built that is inherent in the "one of", 96 million, Red. 96 million people who have abandoned any attempt to find work! That, not phony unemoymemt and job growth numbers is the real economic story. A story of the failure of Trumponomics

Heh.   Hoist upon his own petard.
Only if you mix apples and oranges.
Obamanomics is thankfully gone AND forgotten since it was an abysmal failure.
So this year is only "one of the stronger years for.job growth" compared.to years that constituted an "abysmal failure"?  THAT is what you are bragging about? About as good as "an abysmal failure?"

Looks like Murkowski is a No.
Flake a Yes.

So just one of Collins or Manchin could derail Kavanaugh.
Or the Montana guy gets drunk at his daughters wedding and doesn't make it back ...

A Montana Rep has offered the Senator a ride to and from in his private plane. They might not need to delay.

I’m glad you cleared that up. I’ve been long under the misapprehension that a petard was some kind of jock strap for one’s codpiece. It paints a very different image now.

Surely, if you are going to be pedantic, "hoist with his own PETAR" would be called for!

But in general usage, "by his own petard" is considered as valid as "with his own petard." "on" and "upon" are both frowned upon, as WP says. Or on.

So it really comes down to Collins.

Because if Collins & Murk vote No, it's hard to believe Manchin would be the deciding Yes vote.

(but Yes, I was forgetting Manchin is a Dem)

Collins and Manchin only voted Yes to closing off debate.
Not necessarily a final tally.

And if Collins votes No, then extreme pressure on Manchin to vote No.
And then the Montana senator can enjoy his daughter's wedding.

Did you read or listen to what Collins said?  I think you have more of a chance of Flake voting "No" at this point?

Manchin and Collins are both yes.

The PAC against a Collins yes vote is up over $2 million.

And I think Manchin's pissing into the wind.

No, the context is a bomb. It is a double entendre, perhaps, but the context is of engineers and mines.

Make America Great Again:

https://www.cnn.com/2018/10/01/health/health-care-education-united-states-27th-world-trnd/index.html

The GOP's efforts from Gingrich's Contract on America through Bush's bogus "No Child Left Behind" and through McConnell's vow to block Obama to Trump's undermining of the budget, we have made it from 6th in the world in health care and education all the way down to 27th.

Not that Obama's own policies on education were substantially better than Bush's.
