Two of my grandparents got to America, escaping from poverty and one from being orphaned, riding in the fetid hold of a cargo ship, and then made it across half a continent without money or English language skills, learned how to work a farm, and eventually ran their own farm successfully during the Dust Bowl and in that general area.  They managed this thanks in part to chain migration.

Trump is just making a point, and getting ready for when they do hit the border.
Not too sure what the troops will be doing to stop them from entering though...fences and tear gas didn't stop them forcing their way into Mexico.
Most of them have refused to accept asylum in Mexico, reportedly.

If Trump lets them in he's finished politically.
He needs to secure America's borders to have any hope of re-election.
