f'ing Dick was afraid of the platform provided for Pat Paulsen

Yes he was.  I've occasionally met people, over the years, of the "Nixon wasn't so bad" school, and I enjoy reminding them of his torpedoing of the Smothers bros, so emblematic of his innate fascism.  At least Nixon had some residual sense of shame about this quality, enough to be sneaky about it, unlike the current gasbag.

I do remember CBS giving the Smother Bros a lot of heat over the political content of the show, but I didn't associate it with pressure from Nixon. But we should remember that Nixon had the sense to use "Laugh-In" to soften his image.

Sock it to me!

The show pissed LBJ off to no end, but Nixon did help kill the show once he got into office.

Interesting piece on the subject.

https://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=130569467

I remember it as a show with a big slug of anti-war, (and associated criticism of LBJ) pro-hippie, pro-outrageousness, anf not really anti-Nixon. They kept on pushing the envelope until CBS said fuck it and cancelled the show.

Damn shame, it was a pretty funny show.

Someone should ask Dick Tator Donny with the mushroom dick what kind of retribution he has in mind for a satrirical TV show?

A weekend in Chicago reenergized my idea of responsible journalism. There the adjective “ alleged” is accurately used describing L’affaire “Smollett” (despite biting criticism from the left) and weeks after initial reports of a racist attack on a TV star there is more doubt on whether it was nothing but a hoax.
Meanwhile mouthpieces for the usual cast of piling on charters like Pelosi, Harris, Booker, and TV talking heads are backtracking with varying renditions of Emily Litell’s most famous quote
“ never mind”.

Even Al Sharpton, who is no stranger to hoaxes, says Smollett should be held accountable if he lied.

GOP election fraud through absentee ballots...

https://www.wral.com/no-immunity-for-political-operative-mccrae-dowless-so-he-won-t-testify-in-9th-district-hearing/18200098/

but yeah, Voter ID is the solution...

Find another windmill to joust. 35 states have voter ID laws. Even the ones that don’t require picture ID they ask for one when voting. It makes voting easier and faster.

Yes, Happy Presidents Day.
All together now, sing it loud and proud;

Lock up the thief who has stolen the nation,
Lock up the thief! One finger salute him, one and all.
Lock up the thief, He can’t steal our cooperation
In cheap parody of a great, noble call.

Yours is the aim to make this grand country flounder,
This you won’t do, that is our strong, firm belief.
Hail to the next one we select as commander,
Out with this President! Lock up the Thief!

It’s got a nice beat you can impeach to.

I’ve voted since the 90’s. Never Been asked to show ID. It’s always been pretty easy and fast, though of the stars I’ve voted in CA does it by far the best.

This expresses about a quarter of the depth of my sentiments on the subject.

And it applies to RedStateWard (more accurately known as DimBulb) and Kiiid and Bamboozled.

You don't want kids slaughtered in US schools?
There's a simple solution to stop it...build physical barriers/electronic security...'whatever it takes'.
If the kids say "we don't want to study in a 'prison'"...ask them if they'd rather be killed/maimed for life or have a leg blown off in a school massacre by gun-toting thugs.

Bambu, I hope that your wife has a great visit to the USA.

I hope that she does not plan to visit Disneyland, more rain is on the way.

Salute,

Tony V.

Thanks.

She visited Disney-Tokyo and Disney-Hong Kong last year...not the 'real thing' like in America, but good enough to get the idea.
She had the chance to go to USA with a group, in US winter, probably her only chance to ever go, so she took it.
What is hilarious is you actually believed that story. If she comes back you will probably believe that the muscular handsome and toothy Antonio was a "tour guide".

LOL

You know how the saying goes;

"If you love someone, set them free. If they come back they're yours; if they don't they never were hunt them down and kill them."

I care about schoolkids...that's why I advocate 'absolute security' for schools
I care about concert-goers, that's why I advocate making hotel patrons surrender their guns at reception...with security making sure they all do. Why I advocate 'absolute security at concert entrances etc.

Haven't been asked for an ID of any sort while voting. It's only been 43 years now.

But if it doesn't deter fraud, what's the point?

I care about schoolkids...

No, you don't.

If you cared about school kids, you would not reiterate inane attacks on them.

And you would look to make the future better for them, not worse.

But lip-service caring is so much easier than actual caring.

Ask the 75% who favor ID laws.

Find another windmill to joust. 35 states have voter ID laws. Even the ones that don’t require picture ID they ask for one when voting. It makes voting easier and faster.

“The study was compiled by two professors, Vincent Pons of Harvard University Business School and Enrico Cantoni of the economics department at the University of Bologna in Italy. It was issued by the National Bureau of Economic Research, based in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

“For all the heated debates around strict voter ID laws, our analysis of their effects obtains mostly null results,” the study says, adding:

First, the fears that strict ID requirements would disenfranchise disadvantaged populations have not materialized. Second, contrary to the argument used by the Supreme Court in the 2008 case Crawford v. Marion County to uphold the constitutionality of one of the early strict ID laws, we find no significant impact on fraud or public confidence in election integrity. This result weakens the case for adopting such laws in the first place.”

Funny you didn’t mention the ELECTORAL Fraud in North Carolina but your article source quotes Hans von Spakovsky who is himself a fucking fraud.
