Protests against Assange's US extradition

Protesters will gather at US embassies and consulates around the world to protest the extradition of WikiLeaks co-founder Julian Assange.
Australian-born Assange was arrested on Thursday after Ecuador withdrew his asylum and he is now in British custody.

He is facing an extradition request from the United States on charges of conspiring to break into a Pentagon computer system.

Protesters in Melbourne will gather at the US consulate on St Kilda Road on Sunday.
Activists are also expected to gather at consular offices and embassies in Sydney, Auckland, Wellington, Dublin and Toronto.

If Britain extradites him, Britain will stand condemned.
Torture and death could await him...movies and books have clearly shown how it all works....Abu Ghraib for example.
I have the book here..."Standard Operating Procedure".
Not a good idea to get on the wrong side of the US govt.
Assange is on the wrong side of the US govt.

The Left/Far Left is about to take power in Australia in May...a republic they seem to want, promising a plebiscite then a referendum.
Wouldn't surprise me if this became a catalyst for change, if Britain extradites Assange.
I can see the banners now "Britain doesn't care about us".

Love listening to you sing the praises and leaping to the defense of a man who was a tool of Russia
Please explain how Assange was a tool of Russia or why the indictment never contends he is or was?

Red wants to see the full unredacted Mueller report. OK. Since you asked, the Dems will pry it from Barr’s hands, so aptly described by two four letter words, for all of our consumption. It will be a nice aperitif to start the grand banquet of chewing through trump financials where most transactions are felonious in one way or another. The wattled bird should be cooked and on the table by Thanksgiving.

Remember Red, we do this for you.

The indictment doesn't contend he is or was because it's not about that issue. It's about the Manning case.

Assange has been involved in more than one item, Ward, hard as it is for you to process it.

He’s not a member of the media. He’s nothing like a responsible journalist. And he’s not a true publisher. Instead, in the words of CIA director Mike Pompeo, he’s the leader of a “non-state hostile intelligence service.” He’s a tool of Russia that is aimed directly at Russia’s chief geopolitical rival.

The additional charges may well come (though not carries a death penalty), but at this time, there is an already extant warrant.

You support scum.

Nothing new.

No defence...just don't want him extradited to anywhere he could be tortured and/or put to death.
There are no guarantees one or both won't happen to him in US custody.
I don't like him, and I don't hate him.
He's nothing to me.

Wanna jail him for 5 years or more?
No worries...lock him up in Britain...after a proper trial, where proper evidence has to be produced...no 'kangaroo court'.
No more downunder 'lambs to the slaughter' by British policies, thank you very much.
A line must be drawn in the sand, starting with him.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kangaroo_court

A session of the People's Court in Nazi Germany, widely described as a kangaroo court.

The cat is safe...

https://www.canberratimes.com.au/story/6036650/assange-arrest-an-election-challenge/

This development has brought to a head an issue a succession of Australian governments have been doing their best to sweep under the carpet since June, 2012.
While Sweden quietly dropped the sexual assault case in 2017, the United States indicated on Friday it could still be interested in taking action against the man who, rightly or wrongly, drew the world's attention to the actions of American soldiers in Iraq and other instances of a superpower acting badly.

The most dramatic release was of the so-called Collateral Murder video which showed US troops shooting and killing 18 people from a helicopter in Iraq in April, 2010.
President Trump, a high-profile supporter of WikiLeaks during his election campaign, said his Attorney General was considering what to do. It is no secret the US is still keenly interested in Assange's fate.

The challenge facing Shorten and Morrison is that despite his eccentric behaviour, Assange remains a high profile figure who enjoys a great deal of support here and around the world.

His work in setting up WikiLeaks, and the subsequent release of more than 10 million documents, was praised by information transparency advocates and civil libertarians and recognised with numerous international accolades and awards.

The cat, reportedly handed over to an animal shelter for rehoming last year, was once almost as famous as its master with its own Instagram account.

Assange won't be tortured and has plenty of time to live in the unlikely event he is given the sentence you fear.

You're trying to reason with someone who just compared the US legal system to the People's Court of Nazi Germany.

The essence of trolling is to start out with an extreme and unwarranted assumption and then act as if it's still a normal and rational conversation.  And all points of view and ideas are somehow "equal" and equally deserving of consideration.

As I said back in 2010; “Once the camel’s nose is under the edge of the tent, he’s all the way in.”

The camel is in the tent and he ain’t leaving. Keep taking runs at Obamacare...

Or, they could just turn him over to their Saudi friends to be hacked into tiny pieces…..How about that solution?

Julian Assange is not some form of Russian spy.
Whatever his sins, he did not steal documents from the US government. He did not hack the DNC’s servers, or break into John Podesta’s gmail account. There is no proof he is working for the Russian government, or ever has.
What he has done is embarrass most of Washington, from the publishing of stolen information from the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars though the humiliation of Hillary Clinton. That's why he is hated on a non-partisan basis.
The person who stole classified information was Bradley(Chelsea)Manning who was supposed to serve a 35 year prison term.  Instead Barack Obama shorted it by 28 years with a commutation. I don't hear much discussion about that.

No guarantees.
Some guarantees are not worth the paper they're written on these days.
Punish him in Britain...a prison cell is a prison cell...supposed to be anyway.

Battle Mountain Bugle
January 24 ·

Want to see more local news in the Bugle? We are still looking for a staff writer! Duties include covering local government meetings and events, writing on deadline and taking photos. If you’re interested and have strong writing skills, send your resume to [email protected]. We are about to enter into the second month without a local person covering local news and we’d love to get the position filled soon. Spread the word!

https://www.facebook.com/BMBugle/

--------------------

The Battle Mountain newspaper needs a staff writer to cover the news and events. That would be a cool job for someone who wanted to get their foot in the door as a newspaper writer.

Salute,

Tony V.

It certainly would be.

As for Battle Mountain and surrounds becoming a mecca for immigrants, I see some problems.
Great place for adventurers, but it's a long way from major cities and 'sexy' marketing jobs that young people seem to all want to do these days.

But the biggest problem that I see is;

Of the 110,000 sq miles of Nevada...the federal govt owns 85% of them...including the secret 'Area 51' or whatever it's called.

Methinks there's lotsa gold in them thar hills.
