Fifty years ago today?   Newton, Mass.   Amid an odd lack of public excitement and revelry.   I think the actual Small Step was around 9 pm, on the eastern seaboard.   Folks had the tv on (they were bookish types, so our tube was small and b/w and usually off), but i have little memory of the moment.   We lived in New England for three years, then moved back to the plains - it was just long enough to fuck with my teenage head and make me wonder where home really was.

Its a small world Bart. (sent you a PM)

I watched the moon landing with a couple of high school friends. IIRC we were stoned and pretty philosophical as the Eagle landed.

It’s why the best thing any municipality or state can do is to vote out its republicans and never let them return to power. It why one should always vote to ensure no republicans make it to federal office. In addition to being reactionary and authoritarian, the republican party is the nexus of organized crime in The United States.

The less republican your life is, the higher it’s quality can become.

While I aprpreciate and understand the sentiment and your characterization of the GOP is dead-on, we need at least 2 parties to keep the party in power sort of in check. Without the threat of a competing party, even if its a dog-shit bunch of spineless cowards and thiefs like the McConnell Graham crime family. Its that absolute power/corruption model. We saw it in play when the Repubs had the White House, Senate and House. The motherfuckers stole us blind when they had a monopoly in DC. Thankfully Trump was too inept to harness the power and monopoly he conspired with the Russians to get.

We may not be so lucky in 2020.

Socialist, libertarian, Green. There are a bunch of parties ready to jump in to the spot vacated by the suppurating crime spree that so enchants our lesser lights.

Growing up on Long Island just down the road from Grumman the space program was a big deal and the kids in our neighborhood were all into Estes model rocket kits. We built rockets (my favorite was the Gemini Titan and we had our own “space”program with mission control and recovery operations (bikes and walkie-talkies).

The night of the first moonwalk my sibs and I sat on the floor of my grandma’s room and watched in amazement.

Oh, I remember those Estes rockets, a couple years later we were in Nebraska and a few of us were launching them from a middle school playground and tracking them down (no walkie talkies).  I can imagine the excitement, if you lived near Grumman.  Before Newton we lived in an aerospace town crawling with engineers - Wichita.   Model planes dominated that scene.   And grownups wringing their hands over busing.  It was the sixties.

As Ward would say, "So?"

Or as Kiiid would say, "Heh."

The claim is that it's reducing bureaucratic redundancy.   I am skeptical.  Regarding...

Quote
As a result, DHS didn't send a team to protect the NCAA Final Four college basketball championship in April or to the annual hot air balloon festival in Albuquerque late last year.

You would think Trump would be defending hot air, wherever it may be.

Good people on both sides

Seeing the most extreme and anarchist fringes as emblematic of liberal democrats is a fallacy.  It's a form of propaganda:  tar everyone with one brush.   Make ordinary people who want quality healthcare for all, and humane treatment of asylum seekers, and clean air and water,  out to be crackpots.

And white supremacists are not morally equivalent to Leftists who demonstrate against plutocracy and racism and ecological poisoning.   These are not two legitimate "sides" that deserve equal respect.

My Grandmother worked at the original McDonald's in San Bernardino.

And here is the amazing thing, McDoanld's got their food from Smart and Final, they bought their ingredients from Smart and Final and cooked it up at their restaurant for their customers. With their huge success you would have thought that they had some special connection for hamburger and buns or something, but they bought all of their stuff from Smart and Final.

It is not that hard to make money, you do not have to go to college for twenty years and learn how to manufacture chemicals in order to get rich from your own fast food restaurant.

When I was a cook at a casino, we had a restaurant supply company that delivered all of our food, and cleaning supplies, etc.

I hate to see people starve when it is so easy to make money.

And there is Costco too...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Costco

You could have a little hot dog and hamburger stand with supplies from Costco.

And here is a bit of advice... When my Grandmother worked at the original McDonald's, she was young and beautiful. You should hire the most beautiful young ladies to work at your hamburger stand to deal with the customers.

I suppose you need a business license and other things.

But, you can start small and then you can work your way up.

Now McDonald's is world wide, and McDonald's is succeeding in China. China loves McDonald's.

And in Rome, Italy, you can get a glass of wine with your Big Mac.

Salute,

Tony V.

It's incredible that there's $1T for an unnecessary tax cut so the wealthy can get wealthier and companies can buy back their stock.

And always an extra $1T to decimate some poor country like Afghanistan or Iraq (Iran?).

But when you call for $1T to get everyone health care or otherwise help the lives of poor people, there's an uproar.

Sonny Barger hung out at the original McDonald's back when they had car hops, my Grandmother was a car hop, and Sonny called my Grandmother "Miss New York" and he said that she had class.

That’s because the mega rich manipulate the chronically insecure like Kid to be fine with crimes against them, and any sort of boondoggle or Ponzi scheme while any attempt to help their fellow man drives them apoplectic. From Ronnie Ray-gun to the Marlboro Man to Kidd Rock, thought leaders are provided to the simple and weak to keep them in their pens and headed to the meat grinders, as the appetites of their overlords demand.
