I had a Grandfather who was a self made man, he came to California during the Great Depression at 11 years old from Arkansas, he hitch-hiked out on his own, and he picked fruit, and he did whatever he could. Later in life he was working as a taxi cab driver, and my Grandmother was his dispatcher, and that was how my Grandmother met my Grandfather. Then later he owned a hardwood floor company in Hollywood, and he lived next door to Roy Rogers. Then my Grandfather and the family had an auction and other businesses in Bakersfield. Then my Grandfather did construction in the desert. And he built a dog kennel for my Grandmother in the desert, and she had a successful kennel with a grooming business, etc. He died at 50 in an automobile accident.
My Grandfather did a lot in his short life, and the people from the Great Depression were hard workers, and they were grateful for everything because they knew what it was like to be hungry and to go without.
My Mother has a Cousin who went to college to be a pharmacist, and my Grandfather paid for his college education to become a pharmacist. My Grandfather was a cool guy.
He died when I was a baby, I never really knew him.
Then, after my Grandfather was killed, someone set my Grandmother's dog kennel on fire and burned down her business, and she did not have insurance, so the family went into poverty. My Grandmother spent the rest of her life working as a Dog Groomer. I used to wash dogs for my Grandmother when I was a kid in order to help her and to help the family.
When I went back to school, there was no one to pay for my college. I had to get student loans and grants. I have had to make my own way, without a Grandfather, and without a Father ( My Father was killed when I was 9 years old ), and there was no one to pay for my college.
My Brother married Roy Rogers' Granddaughter, and they never made any money, but they had love, and they had a family, and now my Brother is a Grandfather, so my Brother was able to have a family. I was never able to have a family, I never met the right woman I guess, and the women in California are not attracted to the poor guys, they all want money. Maybe I will find a woman in Italy, or who knows?
Tell me about generational wealth.
Salute,
Tony V.
