It's all supposition and getting people scared - and anxiety can be a contributory killer.

You keep using that word, "supposition."

Merriam-Webster says:
Supposition: something that is supposed : HYPOTHESIS.

This contrasts with Google's definition:
Supposition: an uncertain belief.

My guess is that from the M-W definition, you take hypothesis to mean "an assumption or concession made for the sake of argument."

But it's not. The more scientific definition is "an interpretation of a practical situation or condition taken as the ground for action."

The shortages are not an assumption. They are not a hypothesis. They are a fact.

"Academy of Dermatology have issued a joint statement calling on Vice President Mike Pence to address shortages of hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine"
----------
"Four out of 8 manufacturers of hydroxychloroquine, an anti-malarial drug that had shown some success treating the symptoms of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), are already experiencing shortages according to a list from the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP).1

"According to ASHP’s list of drug shortages, which is independent of the FDA, 200 mg hydroxychloroquine sulfate tablets from Amneal, Major, Mylan, and Teva are currently experiencing shortages. Concordia, Prasco, Sandoz, and Zydus have not reported shortages at this time."
----------
"FDA SAYS THERE'S A SHORTAGE OF HYDROXYCHLOROQUINE AND CHLOROQUINE 'DUE TO A SIGNIFICANT SURGE IN DEMAND'"
---------

Quote
The two most talked about drugs, which have inspired some hope as possible treatments for the virus, are also in short supply. A study in France concluded that hydroxychloroquine, usually used to treat malaria and autoimmune diseases, was particularly effective in fighting the virus when used in combination with the antibiotic azithromycin, though those results have been disputed. New York state is now conducting its own clinical trials.

Effective or not in the fight against COVID-19, hydroxychloroquine is on backorder, and azithromycin, often sold under the brand name Zithromax Z-pak, is in very limited supply and almost unavailable, according to Liristis’ records.

S Bros Pharmacy in Brooklyn’s Williamsburg neighborhood filled its inventory with hydroxychloroquine and Z-paks when word spread the drugs were a possible treatment. But the pharmacy is now dispensing hydroxychloroquine only to patients who suffer from chronic autoimmune diseases to meet guidelines set by New York state, which limit the drug to FDA-approved therapies and COVID-19-positive patients participating in the state trials to ease shortages.

Biden doesn’t have rocks for brains like a certain painted presidential imposter. Reason enough Biden should have everyone’s vote.

bambu-ilk want Trump.

Another equally good reason Biden should have everyone’s vote.

Why do bambu-ilk want Trump?

Because we believe he's our best [and only real] hope.
He's the Commander in Chief of the big guns.

We know you believe that.

But just as he could not and did not save the coal industry and did not fix the problems iron had in America and lied about protecting Social Security and Medicare, his words about the Coronavirus are full of hot air, best not breathed by us.

Like I said - if you want him, you can have him.

Yes, I think I used it properly

The supposition is that patients with lupus and other conditions will be closed out from getting their needed meds - and may even thus die.

This is just scare journalism.  There will be plenty of this drug.

But there ISN'T.

It's not supposition, Kid. It's a fact. There is already not enough.

And the main reason there will be enough of it is...

"With limited resources, officials in charge of the stockpile tend to focus on buying lifesaving drugs from small biotechnology firms that would, in the absence of a government buyer, have no other market for their products, experts said. Masks and other protective equipment are in normal times widely available and thus may not have been prioritized for purchase, they said."

False

Not enough to be more comfortable with the inventory?  Maybe.

But as I said - it gets made pretty quickly and is available from many sources.  Places that are short just need to be serviced.

Pharmacies "run out of" specific drugs all the time - I am sure you know this.  They then seek - and get - what they need - as they need it.  Working together, all is fine.  There is no difference here.

I would hardly call chloraquine an obscure drug.  Sure it wasn't in the national news, but it had been the primary anti-malarial drug for 30+ years, and is still used to treat malaria, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis.  As drugs go, its been around for a long time, and has a number of important uses.  And for a drug that beats the hell out of blood parasites, it has a very safe profile with minimal side effects or counter-indications.  They don't really know how chloraquine works, but believe it interferes with cell receptors.

Otherwise, I'm pretty sure remdesivir essentially failed as an Ebola treatment and the manufacturer is looking for other uses (to recoup their investment).

What the fuck do you think "we are limiting what people can purchase" means?

What the fuck do you think a patient's being told "thank you for your sacrifice" means?

Yes, there is a fucking shortage, no matter how you pretend there is not.

Hey, Kid, now you can claim nobody lost their health insurance as a result of the pandemic.

It will be just as true as your bizarre claim that a shortage according to the FDA is not really a shortage.
