3 fucking months ago

You can see how I called you on your "every day" assesment.

I can see why you called me on the "every day" assessment, that doesn't mean you have done so successfully.

Hannity and others on FOX downplayed the virus as a political tool for Democrats every day for a consistent period of time.  That made Hannity's change to suddenly trying to be informative once Trump started to pretend to take COVID seriously as notable as Tucker Carlson bucking the network's general trend at the time.  Outside of Carlson, the networks stance was consistent for the first month.

And Hannity's about-face wasn't even complete for the network.  The Judge Janine example I cited was in the middle of May.  This is from April:

https://www.salon.com/2020/04/24/fox-news-host-laura-ingraham-continues-to-downplay-threat-posed-by-coronavirus-with-flu-comparison/

And no, I would not say hosts that claim there is no scientific basis for social distancing and urging people to go about their normal lives while they stay sequestered at home makes FOX as excellent a source on COVID as any.  Their coverage has been as friendly as possible to Trump's political needs and his push to reopen States, in many cases contrary to medical recommendations and his administrations own guidelines.

And not even getting into how FOX was pushing the unproven BS about hydroxy being a miracle cure, feeding it to Trump and then keeping the ball rolling once he picked it up.

As excellent a source on COVID as any...yeah.

“Pursuant to an active investigation into whether President Trump’s campaign officials coordinated activities with the government of Russia, one of those officials lied to the F.B.I. about coordinating activities with the government of Russia,” Mr. Gleeson wrote. “It is hard to conceive of a more material false statement than this one.”

The government’s ostensible grounds for seeking dismissal are conclusively disproven by its own briefs filed earlier in this very proceeding,” Mr. Gleeson wrote. “They contradict and ignore this court’s prior orders, which constitute law of the case. They are riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact. And they depart from positions that the government has taken in other cases.”

In other words, Barr, you are a piece of shit.

The Minneapolis Police Department will withdraw from police union contract negotiations, Chief Medaria Arradondo said Wednesday as he announced the first steps in what he said would be transformational reforms to the agency in the wake of George Floyd’s death.

Finally, a solid move to attack the real problem-Union protection of bad cops.
George Floyd’s killer had 18 complaints in his file but was still on the street.

The sister of a federal protective officer in Oakland who was fatally shot during a protest for George Floyd that turned violent told Congress on Wednesday calls to defund the police are "ridiculous".

"It is a ridiculous solution to claim that defunding police departments is the solution to police brutality and discrimination because it's not a solution. It gets us nowhere as a nation and removes the safety net protection that every citizen deserves from their communities elected officials," Angela Underwood Jacobs said at the House Judiciary Committee's hearing on proposed changes to police practices on Capitol Hill.

Until everybody agrees on what "defunding" police means, it seems like a worthless discussion.

Brown and King have retained an attorney who said DPD needs to change their behavior and their policies surrounding the use of pepper ball rounds.

Well, there you have it...

15 minutes of fame and cha-ching!

You are such a miserable bastard.

If the cops lit you up for no reason you would say, hey! No problem?

The firing and the charges are certainly just in NM case

But I ask -

should officers just allow tough to arrest individuals to flee?

Stick to the question - tell me as a cop what you would do after multiple attempts to subdue someone who had broken the law.  There is no wrong answer.

Shit.

Turn the light on him and let him run a hundred feet before he runs out of gas because he is a tweaker.

Aside from the snark, did you have a position on the use of pepper balls?   What about tear gas,  bean bags,  rubber bullets?   Is inflicting potentially serious injuries on protestors a good way to deescalate violence?   Does it advance the peace restoring mission of law enforcement ?   Does it really (except for a brief moment)  suppress a protest which is specifically against the excessive use of force by police

Ask yourself this:  why are police in many countries public safety officers,  but here they are a paramilitary cadre?

Because the job is to control and contain black bodies.

Period.

Keep marching for justice. Good things happen when, for the most part, we march for justice together.

It’s also why we have to put down the tyrannical pigs who try to replace democracy with thuggery. Republican gaslighting and abuse needs to die under the steady tramp of 400,000,000 heels.

Protests have wings.

Not every time. Not each time. But as they build.

I’ve never seen anything like this.

First time in my adult life I’ve felt this hopeful.
Well, it is like Emily Dickinson once wrote, hope is the thing with feathers that fucks you over in the end and leaves you a cynical, broken old man. Much of that quote gets redacted in anthologies.

Suddenly reminded of the old days on the NYT books forum when the NYT censorship filter made us resort to conversations about Moby Schlong, Charles Penisens and my personal favorite, Emily BloodEngorgedAlabasterMeatPoleinson.

Or as we used to say at Sojourners, “Hope is believing in spite of the evidence and watching the evidence change.”

You just keep pushing until you can’t.
