Like the US, much of Sweden's troubles with the virus are in nursing homes.  `It has been, like NYC, their great failure.

The care home problem is hardly unique to the US and Sweden. Italy, Spain, and many others have the problem, too.

But in Sweden, their problem goes beyond the nursing homes, which are tied to roughly half their deaths. Another 40% of deaths are from people over the age of 70, not in nursing homes - these are the folks who have paid most for Sweden's approach.

The US rate is as bad overall in part because blacks are dying more than twice as fast as whites.

Like many govt's, the Swedish gov't did its share of dissembling during the pandemic.

Early on and at times when they thought their strategy was working they were willing to describe it as herd immunity.  Other times they preferred other terms, especially when they realized their death rate was way high and that infection levels were much lower than predicted.  They were in on herd immunity when they thought it would work and backtracked and pretended they never went for that when it wasn't working.

Speaking of lying.  Dr. Fauci finally admitted that he lied about the best health policy with regard to the virus.  The intent was to better protect health care workers.  But his intentionally wrong advice was responsible for hundreds of thousands of infections, and probably millions, since the US infection rate is likely actually 10M - 20M.  But those huge numbers of extra infections put health care workers at risk, as they had to care for a large number of extra unnecessary cases created by Fauci's lie, not to mention the infected people who could have been protected by a simple precaution.

Of course the Trump Admin diverts attention by complaining about China not be forthcoming with WHO back around New Years.  Somehow missing all of the damage that Fauci's intentional lie caused.  Plus the Trump Admin inept response that did untold damage and made the US the global viral hotspot.

"These horrible & politically charged decisions coming out of the Supreme Court are shotgun blasts into the face of people that are proud to call themselves Republicans or Conservatives," Trump tweeted Thursday. "We need more Justices or we will lose our 2nd. Amendment & everything else. Vote Trump 2020!"

Trump's comments hours after Thursday's ruling and days after the court ruled that the Civil Rights Act of 1964 protects LGBTQ Americans from job discrimination on the basis of their sexual orientation or transgender status.

"Do you get the impression that the Supreme Court doesn't like me?" Trump tweeted Thursday.

Trump later Thursday unleashed a series of tweets complaining about the ruling.

"The DACA decision, while a highly political one, and seemingly not based on the law, gives the President of the United States far more power than EVER anticipated," Trump wrote. "Nevertheless, I will only act in the best interests of the United States of America!"

He called for "NEW JUSTICES" to be appointed to the Supreme Court and said he would, like in the 2016 campaign, release a list of conservative judges he will consider appointing in a second term.

"As President of the United States, I am asking for a legal solution on DACA, not a political one, consistent with the rule of law," Trump wrote. "The Supreme Court is not willing to give us one, so now we have to start this process all over again."

Facebook removed 88 ads Thursday posted by the accounts of President Donald Trump, the Trump campaign and Vice President Mike Pence that the social media giant said were “violating our policy against organized hate.”

All of the identical ads featured an upside-down red triangle, a symbol used by the Nazi party in World War II to identify political dissidents in concentration camps. The ads caught the attention of some Twitter users Thursday who pointed out the symbol's historical significance

Your arguments make a lot of sense ...  if you were talking about the War on Drugs.

Lots of folks are willing to assume the personal risk of drug usage.  For many, drugs aren't a problem and they can work and raise a family and be useful members of society.  While some will die from them or ruin their lives.    Why not let them have freedom and decide what to do with their lives and bodies?

The difference is those who  assert their individual rights during an epidemic, act careless and get infected can easily spread it to others who can also pass it on, until we have a genuine health emergency and people dying.  The potential harm isn't limited to the individual.   For drug use it mostly is.

When Trump sprung the Euro travel ban it caught folks off guard and sent travelers scrambling home only to wait for hours in an enclosed packed spaces getting through customs at JFK and Newark.

Ground transpo people, agents, baggage handlers, security personnel, food court folks were exposed and then went home to spread it among their friends and family in service sector gigs, including home health care aides who also work multiple shifts at various care facilities throughout the region.

One of things people don’t understand about the folks in ‘essential’ sectors of the economy is the amount of stress involved in just getting through the day. Chronic stress is debilitating.
