Knicks
Buy the kids some donuts that will keep them happy for awhile, but they aren't the ones driving the car and i'm not sure they know how to get where they want to go or where the local voting precinct is, as many have never voted before.
Have a safe 4th and good luck outrunning the torpedos, because they're surely coming.
In this context you don’t outrun torpedos because they are tethered mines. You go through the minefield.
What you don’t understand about this generation you belittle as children is they are the most informed generation in history having grown up on social media. They can out organize and out mobilize better than anything you have ever seen.
They’re coming out college and high school into this shit and they aren’t stupid.
Knicks you used the torpedo analogy so I stuck with it. You want to go to "minefield, that's cool. I'm pretty good at that game.
As to what I don't understand about this generation would take a post to long to type, but I do have kid 24 YO and she's very bright, not particulalry political, far les than I was at her age, but she's pretty aware. And her political leaning more or less mirror mine, and I expect she will vote for Biden and a Dem ticket. But that's a small sample size.
I do not know if others of her generation will or will not vote.
But history tells us their turnout will lag older voters, They vote at about a 42% rate versus about 70% for seniors in US Presidential elections.
But I'm hopeful they will vote in bigger #s.
I grew up watching Cronkite and Huntley & Brinkley, and PBS, and I read pretty good newspapers. Globe and Times, eventually the WSJ and read Newsweek every week. I was pretty well informed relative to my peers.
I don't get filled with confidence that this generation is as well informed by on-line social media and the death of print journalism. IMO the web is a far less transparent and reliable source of information, and there is a ton of it to vet, and a lot of it, as we've learned is garbage. Remember GIGO? When reading crap on-line it applies in spades today.
I view this topic through my background as: politically aware, a liberal, an analyst, and cynic.
As you are aware I question a lot of shit and I can make people uncomfortable and defensive. Thats the way I'm wired. And it was an occupational requirement. When someone wants you to invest big $ you ask hard questions of them.
In any case, I am not putting all my eggs in the basket of younger americans who spend far too much time on the internet, and have a historical propensity for not voting.
But I will keep an open-mind and hope that kids who have seen high school proms and graduations cancelled, kids who have seen college educations interupted anf kids who's first job was shit-canned all because of an inept racist moron who is not fit for the job, will get pissed enough to remember to register and then to vote.
But I would not gear a national election to an agenda that might solely appeal to younger or liberal voters, as I've posted I would keep it less controversial because I do not want to scare away or push away older more moderate voters who actually fucking vote.
I'll talk about fixing EPA and building a consensus for a greener America, but that will not be a centerpiece. Nor will I focus on soaking coprorations with higher taxes in the middle of a recession. I do not want to kill a recovery. I will talk about rebuilding America, infrastructure, jobs, bailing out the revenue starved states, fixing O-Care/healthcare so the motherfucking Repubs can never fuck it up again, and I'd get tough with the motherfuckinfg Russians who are our fucking enemy and are not be trusted. China is more nuanced, but i'd work to normalize and control that relationship and drop the stupid fucking tarriffs, as they are really only a tax on us.
And thats a lot because the moron in charge now fucked things up pretty badly, And its going to take some time to fix it right.
And knicks the minefield you wish to safely navigate is probably best navigated by going cautiously, measuring risk, assessing data, and picking your course, and issues you need to win carefully, rather than going as fast as you can, because the motherfuckers Trump and McConnell are laying motherfucking mines as we speak.
