I have to say that 4 years of Trump won't be so awful if the end result is the Dems get the WH and a unified Congress.

Winning the House in '18 was important.  It really slowed down the GOP and got Trump impeached and knocked the wind out of his hairpiece.

I think early voting begins in September in many states.

While I'd like to be optimistic, and fervently want a massive BLUE wave to cleanse America in 2020, the depth of the stain that Trump will  leave on the fabric of America will not be so easily washed away.

From domestic issues: race divsions, the economy, healthcare, voter suppression efforts, environmental, to foreign policy: rebuilding long-term alliances that have served us well, rechecking and assessing complicated and contentious relations with China and Russia, and showing to the world we side with democracy and not authoritarian oppressive countries. Biden and the Dems have a lot to do rebuilding the ability to effectively govern that Trump and Repubs have activelt tried to dismantle.

And they will likely meet with a lot of head-wind from Repubs. And lets not forget the a conservative SC and the hundreds of federal judges Trump and McConnell hand-picked to bend law and justice to favor the rich and powerful.

But I'm hopeful that a Biden Admin wil be focused and smart and start fixing America step by step, ((I'd focus on the economy, jobs (infrastructure) aide to tax starved states and fixing O-care/healthcare and slapping sanctions on Russia). Let's see Repubs run against that in '22.

And i agree taking the House in '18 was critical in denying Trump the complete legal power to enact more damaging legislation. And in that regard keeping the House in '20 (which should be a lock) but also in '22 and '24 will be critical. And retaking the Senate would be huge in sctually fixing America,

IMO if we get a Biden presidency he will inherit a shit storm of problems, too numerous to discuss in depth now, that he will be tasked with fixing. And it won't be easy and may make him and a D-congress easy targets for the hypocritical republicans, who will demand quick cures for the diseases they brought to our country.

IMO the 4-years of suffering Trump-16 (and lets pray its just 4 years) will leave scars and have a damning legacy far beyond that happy day when we're cured of the Trumpdemic.

I really see the glass more half full than the above.

This is a truly transformative time and it is in such times there is opportunity that shouldn’t me wasted.

The coming aftermath of this shit show is akin to a post war environment or meteor strike.

Society is screaming for change and Trump is defending the Confederacy.

There are few moments in history such as these.

Fuck the GOP.

Headwinds?

Fuck them, change the rules and shut them out.

Be Smart

and be strategic and the Dems can re-write a lot of laws, enact a lot of social change and appoint a lot of judges over the next 30+ years

be a pig and you risk gtting slaughtered in '22 and '24.

i hope the dems hit the trifecta in '20 WH/S/H

and consolidate in '20-22, make progress and hold H/S

win again in '24.

then the demographics and some of the social changes may be too strong for the Repubs to game

then you can bury the fuckers

From October 2018, about a month before the Midterms

The Republican Party has outlived its efficacy and has, in fact, become what its leader accuses the Fourth Estate of being — an enemy of the people. In order for this grand experiment in democracy to continue into the future, its politics must be allowed to evolve to meet the needs of its growing diverse populations, and that is anathema to the GOP. In order to save the nation AND the principles of conservative politics, the GOP must be destroyed.

It must go the way of Carthage. Its structure battered into bits, the rubble burned to ash, the ashes salted and sowed into the earth, never to grow again.

From August 2019

Conventional wisdom counsels the Democrats to tack to the middle and avoid “going too far left” but when have you heard members of the Very Smart People put forth “conventional wisdom” about the Republicans going too far right? Never. That’s why a tactic the GOP is putting a lot of weight behind will most likely backfire. They are determined to make “The Squad” the face of the Democratic Party.

The Squad IS the future of the Democratic Party, and fortunately the future is now.

Knicks-
First let me say we are in general agreement on where we want to go, the route we are going to take, and the vehicles we'll be driving.

The differences appear to be mostly at the speed we want to go.

I'd like to go in a timely manner, as fast as is safe, maybe a few miles over the limit, 75+-ish but don't want to get pulled over. And I'll stop from time to time to take a leak, grab a burger, get some gas, its going to be a long trip.

You want to get there yesterday and I get it. I just think the risks of a blow-out at high speeds, reacting in time to the deer that jumps out, or not seeing the cop waiting behind the billboard, may escape you at 100 MPH.

In my posts I outlined some broad policy initiatives I thought important near-term, get gas, check the oil, make sure all the kids are accounted for, and stop at Dunkins for coffee, and donuts for the kids to keep them happy for awhile, before they start the "are we there yet?". So I won't repeat them now  I figure we will have plenty of time to chat about where we agree and where we disagree as we take this trip. And  I'm pretty sure now I'm going to need a pit stop in a few hours after downing that extra-large Iced coffee.

And knicks, quoting your own blogs (it wan't apparent until I clicked on the link) as proof that you agree with you is not really necessary, I know you agree with you. :)

Have a good and healthy 4th with your family

I just want to thank Wikipedia for providing the presidential biographies portion of Trump's Rushmore speech!   And,  of course,  Martin Luther King for all he did to so inspire Trump last night,  in his noble quest to get ten percent of African-Americans to cast a vote for him!

I posted somewhere, here or elsewhere, that string of factoids that he called a speech, were foreign to Donnie until he read his the speech draft on his flight to Mt Rushmore.

It would have been more entertaining if someone had slipped in a few mickeys,

And who can forget Wilt "The Stilt" Chamberlain, a giant in his field, the only man to score 100 points a game and bang 20,000 women.

My past writings indicate I’m not new to the party.

I also know “with all deliberate speed” means “could be, maybe, never.”

Strike while iron is hot means don’t let the energy cool

These are the biggest boldest protests in American History... this is one of those times you press the accelerator to the floor and bust through the speed traps, or in other words damn the torpedoes...

Moderation is a recipe for disaster.

Knicks

Buy the kids some donuts that will keep them happy for awhile, but they aren't the ones driving the car and i'm not sure they know how to get where they want to go or where the local voting precinct is, as many have never voted before.

Have a safe 4th and good luck outrunning the torpedos, because they're surely coming.

I liked Trump's Garden of of Statues idea, and most of his list of first-ballot locks for for Hall of Statues,

but who in your opinion should be in, other than Wilt?

I noticed some glaring omissions, but Elba who do you want in that Garden of Greatness?

I'm watching Fox's pre-game show Trump @ Mt Rushmore (Chaffetz subbing for Hannity) and the themes they are pounding is Trump the take charge law n order guy versus a deteriorating Biden who will delegate his responsibilites to AOC. It is pure partisan gibberish. And the lead-out to commercial was a rhetorical question,

"Can you imagine if Joe Biden was President for the past 3 1/2 years?

It was delusional.

I missed a whole day of jokes.
You guys!  Not cool you guys.
Also mildly racist maybe?

OK let me try one:

What did the Palestinian say to the American?

The struggle Israel.

While people didn't bomb Pearl Harbour.
Neither did anyone we put in a concentration camp you blithering upside.down racist idiot.

Some of their ilk were spies for Japan, in Hawaii and elsewhere.
Only way to protect America was to put all in camps.

Bullshit and more bullshit. We did not lock up all people of German ancestry. We were far more selective with them, taking very few citizens. Ditto the Italian population.

If the goal was do as you say, then shouldn't they have "put all in camps?!"

That's true. To a point. If they'd locked up all those of German and Italian ancestry at the time, there'd have been no one to go fight the war.

GW: I had slaves. So what! And Indians? Just a bunch of pussywhipped punks. Matriarchal society! What fucking bullshit. That's why we kicked their Iroquois ass!

TJ: I loved slaves! Particularly this one with the cutest ass. Sally, Oh my God, she was hot!

TR: I liked to call us the "forward race". But I did have Booker T. Washington to the White House for dinner once. Just once. Only Negro I ever dined with, come to think of it.

Abe: There's but a few of the reasons I asked to be separated on this mountain from you three!

First one in power to admit the obvious.
So on one side you have unprotected cult meetings by the prez and on the other side huge crowds with a good many no masks. Stuck in the middle with you.

Beginning in 1863, the Lincoln administration oversaw the removal of the Navajos and the Mescalero Apaches from the New Mexico Territory, forcing the Navajo to march 450 miles to Bosque Redondo—a brutal journey. Eventually, more than 2,000 died before a treaty was signed....

Not all that much separation, Abe.
