With coronavirus spreading throughout Florida and a mandatory mask policy now in place in Jacksonville, the Trump campaign is reportedly ready to cancel his 15,000-person rally at the Republican National Convention next month "so that Trump doesn’t suffer another Tulsa–like humiliation," Vanity Fair writes.

Certainly, he was not anticipating the mandatory mask policy - he moved there from NC to get away from active oversight of his conference, even though it was clear when he made the shift that Florida's numbers were going in the wrong direction.

I suppose he could sue and claim that his right to free speech is being muffled.

Speaking of coronavirus' spreading...

http://www.cnn.com/2020/07/03/politics/kimberly-guilfoyle-positive-coronavirus-test/index.html

I am sure it's a coincidence that this is the 2nd person who has tested positive since the Tulsa Rally two weeks ago. Aren't you?!

Quote
Kimberly Guilfoyle -- the girlfriend of Donald Trump Jr. and a top fundraiser for the Trump campaign -- has tested positive for coronavirus, according to a top official for the committee she leads.

"After testing positive, Kimberly was immediately isolated to limit any exposure," said Sergio Gor, chief of staff for the Trump Victory Finance Committee. "She's doing well, and will be retested to ensure the diagnosis is correct since she's asymptomatic but as a precaution will cancel all upcoming events. Donald Trump Jr was tested negative, but as a precaution is also self isolating and is canceling all public events."

Guilfoyle tested positive in South Dakota before she was set to attend the President's event at Mount Rushmore, a person familiar with the matter and a campaign source familiar with the matter said.

Guilfoyle was not with the President and Donald Trump Jr. has so far tested negative, the person familiar with the matter said. That source said Guilfoyle had not had recent contact with the President, but she was in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and was backstage for his rally there and, was also at his event in Phoenix.

I have to say that 4 years of Trump won't be so awful if the end result is the Dems get the WH and a unified Congress.

Winning the House in '18 was important.  It really slowed down the GOP and got Trump impeached and knocked the wind out of his hairpiece.

I think early voting begins in September in many states.

While I'd like to be optimistic, and fervently want a massive BLUE wave to cleanse America in 2020, the depth of the stain that Trump will  leave on the fabric of America will not be so easily washed away.

From domestic issues: race divsions, the economy, healthcare, voter suppression efforts, environmental, to foreign policy: rebuilding long-term alliances that have served us well, rechecking and assessing complicated and contentious relations with China and Russia, and showing to the world we side with democracy and not authoritarian oppressive countries. Biden and the Dems have a lot to do rebuilding the ability to effectively govern that Trump and Repubs have activelt tried to dismantle.

And they will likely meet with a lot of head-wind from Repubs. And lets not forget the a conservative SC and the hundreds of federal judges Trump and McConnell hand-picked to bend law and justice to favor the rich and powerful.

But I'm hopeful that a Biden Admin wil be focused and smart and start fixing America step by step, ((I'd focus on the economy, jobs (infrastructure) aide to tax starved states and fixing O-care/healthcare and slapping sanctions on Russia). Let's see Repubs run against that in '22.

And i agree taking the House in '18 was critical in denying Trump the complete legal power to enact more damaging legislation. And in that regard keeping the House in '20 (which should be a lock) but also in '22 and '24 will be critical. And retaking the Senate would be huge in sctually fixing America,

IMO if we get a Biden presidency he will inherit a shit storm of problems, too numerous to discuss in depth now, that he will be tasked with fixing. And it won't be easy and may make him and a D-congress easy targets for the hypocritical republicans, who will demand quick cures for the diseases they brought to our country.

IMO the 4-years of suffering Trump-16 (and lets pray its just 4 years) will leave scars and have a damning legacy far beyond that happy day when we're cured of the Trumpdemic.

I really see the glass more half full than the above.

This is a truly transformative time and it is in such times there is opportunity that shouldn’t me wasted.

The coming aftermath of this shit show is akin to a post war environment or meteor strike.

Society is screaming for change and Trump is defending the Confederacy.

There are few moments in history such as these.

Fuck the GOP.

Headwinds?

Fuck them, change the rules and shut them out.

Be Smart

and be strategic and the Dems can re-write a lot of laws, enact a lot of social change and appoint a lot of judges over the next 30+ years

be a pig and you risk gtting slaughtered in '22 and '24.

i hope the dems hit the trifecta in '20 WH/S/H

and consolidate in '20-22, make progress and hold H/S

win again in '24.

then the demographics and some of the social changes may be too strong for the Repubs to game

then you can bury the fuckers

From October 2018, about a month before the Midterms

The Republican Party has outlived its efficacy and has, in fact, become what its leader accuses the Fourth Estate of being — an enemy of the people. In order for this grand experiment in democracy to continue into the future, its politics must be allowed to evolve to meet the needs of its growing diverse populations, and that is anathema to the GOP. In order to save the nation AND the principles of conservative politics, the GOP must be destroyed.

It must go the way of Carthage. Its structure battered into bits, the rubble burned to ash, the ashes salted and sowed into the earth, never to grow again.

From August 2019

Conventional wisdom counsels the Democrats to tack to the middle and avoid “going too far left” but when have you heard members of the Very Smart People put forth “conventional wisdom” about the Republicans going too far right? Never. That’s why a tactic the GOP is putting a lot of weight behind will most likely backfire. They are determined to make “The Squad” the face of the Democratic Party.

The Squad IS the future of the Democratic Party, and fortunately the future is now.

Speaking of Nazis,
just watched a true story movie 'The Zookeeper's Wife'...family who owned the Warsaw Zoo in 1939 when the Nazis invaded Poland.
Jews in Poland relocated to the Warsaw ghetto. ...resistance,  how the family hid Jews in their Zoo villa basement ...smuggled out 300 during the war.

Jews from the ghetto, ...men, women,  small children.packed into trains and relocated .
Who could blame Jews from then on deciding that would never be happening to them again?
Who can blame Jews in the world today for making ""whatever it takes" their motto.

"Look after yourself first in this world, son...because nobody else will."

There are 8000 square miles to Israel. That’s it.

A quick search, I see 12,000 sq m.
But a problem is that the southern half is desert.
The coast, north and Jordan River valley are the habitable areas.

There’s the billion neighbors, give or take, willing to set aside their differences to take a crack at the nation in its present state to take into account. Makes it a bit harder to enjoy the beaches.

I'm pretty sure that Fatah and Hamas have irreconcilable differences.

I recommend a three state solution, but not the obvious three states.
I recommend that Gaza be ceded to Egypt and the West Bank be ceded to Jordan.

I am pretty sure that nobody would like this, including Israel.

Pretty sure of yourself, aren't you?
(just kidding)

Well, that's imaginative, bold and unlikely.
It also needs to overcome sounding like the old Israeli line that there's no such people as the Palestinians.  And like great powers carving up weaker folks lands in the old colonial style.

At this time Egypt is pretty unstable and is having trouble governing over the Bedouin in the Sinai.  So they're hardly ready (or willing) to take on Gaza.
Jordan's rulers would worry about becoming unstable.
And does your proposal mean that East Jerusalem is off the table?

As for Fatah and Hamas, it could be as simple as Fatah has already been bought off, and Hamas just needs a sweet enough deal.

We should move this to the ME thread where it would all be in one place and more manageable.

Negev desert?
People could live there.
Desalination plants...pump water from the Dead Sea and the Mediterranean.

Desert...good place to hide nukes.
