On what basis do they "over-sample" democrats?

This is one of those red flags that indicate immediately that the author is a bullshitter.   Obviously, a pollster doesn't know if someone is a Democrat or a Republican or Independent until they ask!  And they aren't going to arbitrarily throw out responses, based on the answer to that question.  So they weigh their polls accordingly, and the good pollsters have no issue doing this.  But Republicans (ie Trumpists) like to use this phrase to discredit a poll that happened to unearth more Democrats than Republicans because it works on people who don't know how polls work (ie Trumpists)

Trump downplays legacy of slavery in appeal to white voters

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump intensified efforts to appeal to his core base of white voters on Thursday by downplaying the historical legacy of slavery in the United States and blasting efforts to address systemic racism as divisive.

The president’s comments marking the 233rd anniversary of the signing of the Constitution amounted to a defense of white culture and a denunciation of Democrats, the media and others who he accused of trying to indoctrinate school children and shame their parents’ “whiteness.”

Of course this is what is meant by "patriotic education."  Proliferating the views that Slavery was good for Black people, deny its continued legacy, and portray White America as the chosen and infallible, etc.

kiidcarter8 knows what it means of course, but knows better than to say it out loud.  Probably also knows that if the people being polled on it actually knew what is meant by it, the response would have been different.

Some of Needs' buddies pissing him off, no doubt.

It helps to read that whole commentary you linked,  so you learn the author is not with Rasmussen,  and is a freelance writer with no expertise in politics.  The article is heavily biased,  contains false statements,  and its sole factual basis is a poll done of blacks who have landlines,  blacks being a demographic group which is notably below the average rate of landline subscription in the cohort under age 55.   This would make "weighting" nearly impossible,  given the obvious question of which blacks would be willing to talk to Rasmussen,  and their likelihood to vote.

This paragraph  from the linked article....

Many view public opinion polls with well-deserved skepticism. Most polls aim to influence rather than reflect public opinion. Instead of surveying likely voters, many query whoever answers the phone, whether or not they are registered or likely voters. Many polls over-sample Democrats, skewing poll results in favor of the Democrat candidate...

...lacks any supporting evidence.   The aim of polls,  reputable ones like Gallup or Harris,  is to sample public opinion.   On what basis do they "over-sample" democrats?   And which ones survey whoever answers the phone (and how does this apply to cellphones??)  without screening?
Reputable polling services make their money by being accurate, not by skewing.results.

And anyone who says polls oversample anyone knows zero about how polling is done. Any adjustments for demographics is done in the analysis, not in the sampling. Not that party affiliation would be adjusted for all that much anyway. Party affiliation is mutable and, with election polling, lines up with who the person votes for. You are more likely to self identify as a Democrat if you intend to vote Democratic, or Republican if you intend to vote Republican. Pollsters know this stuff.

By the way,.what I have been seeing is the idea of a Trumpian Bradley effect is largely a myth. Prior to 2016, there had not been a big schism between educated white voters and uneducated ones. 2016 showed a greater divide in how whites voted than pollsters anticipated. They have been correcting for that, so the hidden Trump voters may nonverbal exist.

Trump malice and incompetence will get many more of us killed.

Besides the Adderall, the fact that trump is running to get away with grand theft and mass murder as well as general dereliction of duty may account for his energy. He will either win or be utterly destroyed.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2020/09/10/reinoehl-portland-antifa-killing-police/

If this witness is accurate,  then this is very disturbing and underscores the need for an independent investigation of a possible extrajudicial execution.

An extrajudicial killing that President Trump called for.   Not even Putin is this obvious.

When police last week surrounded Michael Forest Reinoehl, a self-described anti-fascist suspected of fatally shooting a member of a far-right group in Portland, Ore., the wanted man wasn’t obviously armed, a witness to the scene said Wednesday.

In fact, according to Nate Dinguss, Reinoehl was clutching a cellphone and eating a gummy worm as he walked to his car outside an apartment complex in Lacey, Wash. That’s when officers opened fire without first announcing themselves or trying to arrest him, Dinguss, a 39-year-old who lives in the apartment complex, said in a statement shared with The Washington Post.

The witness is an ordained minister.

Since you posted last week that “ there is no war on the police” I found the latest Rasmussen Poll on the subject interesting.

A majority of likely U.S. voters believes the country is experiencing a war on police and that politicians should enact policy classifying attacks on cops as hate crimes, according to a new poll.
Released on Thursday, Rasmussen's polling came amid a wave of calls to defund police and a swell in anti-police sentiment. Since 2018, the percentage of likely voters who believes there's a war on cops has increased from 43% to 59%.

The poll was released the same day  as:

Policing is a dangerous job and always will be. What of it? There is nothing to connect the shooting of - or rather at - the two DPS officers with the defund the police movement. Tbe motives of the 17 year old Hispanic kid who did the shooting have not been alleged, and by the circumstances, in that neighborhood, it is more likely drug related.

As an aside, thanks to that incident I now know what a Blue Alert is.

Edit:  By the way, I think the police describing the shooting as being "Ambush-Style" appears based on the stories I have see  to be an unusual use of the term. The DPS officers were stopped in an unmarked vehicle when the shooter pulled up. They did not as far as.we now know lay in wait for them or shoot from cover or anything else you would think of as an ambush. It is moreof a drive by. Unless, of course, the police know who the shooters were and believe him to be connected with the warrant they were serving. Which makes drugs the more likely explanation.

Yep.

Red and Kid are clinging to Rass polls like a piece of debris in a shipwreck.

Not like Rass ever asks leading questions that push the affirmative answers they want.

The witness is an ordained minister.

That might up the odds he's honest,  but not the odds he's perceptive and observes accurately.   I'm inclined to believe him,  but hope other witnesses, and forensics, can support his impressions.

This political forum has gone from "Bush" to Obama to Trump to anti-Trump and now back to Bush.

Why?

Somebody said I should get rid of "Anti-Trump" and put it back to what it was originally.

So, I did. Then I waited for somebody to ask why!

And how about if I create a separate "topic" just for Rasmussen posts?!

I thought anti-Trump was an excess of editorial oversight

It was done in response to Kid's having said something like, "If this was the Anti-Trump forum, I would have nothing to do here."

So, I changed it.

Now, you don't want it back to "original?" So sad.
