I don’t think you can access the internet without using some components that were somehow processed in China. If you are serious about your principles, bambu, we will miss your posts.

I bought a Microsoft wireless keyboard.
Just checked...yes, 'Made in China'.

Just bought a new 2021 diary...'Made in China'.
Just checked my Mickey Mouse clock...yes, 'Made in China'.
My brand name pop up magnifying glass...'Made in China'.

My principle...stop manufacturing everything in China.
Gee, a diary...bits of paper and cardboard stuck together.
Here's an idea, make a diary in America..."trade war diary"...'support America, buy this diary".

You should be making these things yourself or stop using them. If you don’t set an example how can you expect anything to happen?

A diary I could make...the rest, no.
What I can do is join the boycotting of "made in China" goods basically announced by some people shown on my tv tonite...after China's further banning today of two lamb exporting companies and two more beef exporters from the Chinese market.
A young carpenter said he won't be buying a Chinese pick up truck when he goes to buy one soon.
Nor will he be buying any tools made in China.
Hopefully the boycotts will grow.

Maybe Microsoft would like to start making its wireless keyboards anywhere else but in China.
Aussie coal is enabling poor people in India to have electricity for the first time.
A poor Indian family was shown marvelling at the electricity and watching a small tv.
India is West-friendly, Microsoft could make wireless keyboards and computers in India instead of China.

I've been saying the same for well over a decade.

To couch it in positive terms, US and Euro consumers have helped China pull roughly 300M Chinese out of poverty and modernize their country.
Now let's do the same for India, which is roughly two decades behind China on the development track.  And spread some of that manufacturing wealth to Brasil and Indonesia and more to Mexico, etc.  Could try to entice Turkey and Pakistan to alter their policies in exchange for a piece of the action.  Everything made in China can be made elsewhere

A well-thought out international trade policy could also reduce immigration pressures by spreading jobs and wealth to Brasil, Mexico, Argentina, Central America, etc.  Making them regional immigration centers.

Strategically, giving $300B a year to China in exchange for cheap goods at Walmart isn't a smart play for the US.

Oh, CANADA!

Multi-week lockdowns don't seem to be working...

Pleading?
Various degrees of lockdowns?

That doesn't work...you have to make people stay home, make them wear masks in public, enact a total lockdown [with some strict exemptions], enact a curfew.
Go to work, go to the supermarket, and go home.
No visiting granny at her house, no popping next door for a cup of sugar either.
Ban people from driving around the state, they can drive to work by themselves in the car or only with people who live in their home.
No car pooling, no taking the neighbours.
Work from home.....

You're looking good this morning.  Have you been working out?

Overheard in Barton household this a. m. as a missing item is searched for....

“What’d you guys do — take it and do something crazy to it?”

I predict Melissa Cerone quotes will be enduring memes.

Same with the war on drugs.
You're just funneling money to your enemies by criminalizing drugs.

The Taliban took in nearly $500B last year via opium sales (they tax every stage).  US consumers finance violent Mexican drug gangs.

Legalize and tax drugs.  Cut out the violent criminal middlemen.
Stop wasting money on policing and prisons, and use the tax money you pull in on education and addiction health care.

Good idea.   Should post that in Drug thread,  which has no posts since September.   Get a whole chat going,  without crosstalk.   I'd legalize pot and maybe peyote and other psychoactives.   Heroin,  meth,  coke,  I'd decriminalize use but still penalize producers.   Hard drugs really shouldn't become a legitimized industry.   (I posted this reply over in Drug forum,  too)

Re:  schools - Biden just said that it should be a priority - and shouldnt it?

Saying "if all goes well the majority of schools should stay open by May 1" is not really going out on a dangerous limb, Luee.

I don't agree that they need to be the level of priority that he does, wrt COVID, though I think they need to be a bigger priority overall. Our schools have problems.

But I have no problems at all with the phrase, "if all goes well..." etc.
